“I love Africa, and Ulusaba, our home in South Africa, is pretty special. It’s on a rocky hill overlooking the bush, and from your room, you can see lions stalking zebras by the waterhole. “ -Richard Branson

It’s 1 : 27 PM on day 2825 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read a Bible verse, spend time outside – watching a bird take off from the ground is so special -have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –raised $14 669 only $4 081 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to reach my new goal of helping 75 kids with Clubfoot by June 17, 2018.

Yesterday I watched “What Do You Love About South Africa?” – the first episode of Michael Cost’s 6-part YouTube series ZA Kids (6 episodes, 6 questions, 1 question per episode and a whole lot of fun)– it’s really well done I love that Michael picked a diverse group of people to be a part of this series it makes for interesting viewing. Day 2464: Best Recipes from the Tasty Channel

“Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all.” -Harriet van Horne

It’s 10 : 00 AM on day 2464 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, have breakfast,  read Psalm 77: 11 and learn a new word – Definitions for slumberous 1. sleepy; heavy with drowsiness, as the eyelids. 2. causing or inducing sleep. 3. pertaining to, characterized by, or suggestive of slumber.

Recently I’ve become somewhat obsessed with the Tasty channel on YouTube admittedly I can’t cook (duh who would trust me in front of a stove) but still I like learning how things are made. Watch some videos from Tasty below:

Day 281

If you follow you cannot lead – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 53 PM on day 281 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself an French fries and cheese puffs for breakfast, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck – watch TV, tweet about my campaign some more – no luck – listen to Advice by Christina Grimmie (@TheRealGrimmie) –that song is everything I ever wanted to say to all the young girls out there (see video below) – feed myself tapioca and beef curry for lunch, continue to tweet about my campaign – still no luck  – feed myself rice and curry for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Today my brother asked my parents if he could stay home from school because his friends had bunked yesterday and on Friday and although my parents obliged him my father said this before he left if you’re staying home because you’re sick I won’t force you to go but if you’re doing this because you’re friends did it’s your life… one day your friends might start drinking will you join them and that I guess is a question for all of us am I willing to sacrifice doing what I know is right just to belong. Do you follow the crowd or choose to forge your own path?

Day 257

People’s perceptions of me aren’t personal – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 8: 01 PM on day 257 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a chicken hotdog for breakfast, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign –no luck –send Oprah a thank-you email for everything she’s taught me – I know what you’re thinking I didn’t ask for a donation I didn’t want to be another one of those people who just wanted something from her I’ll find another way to raise the rest of the money 🙂 – send messages to my Facebook friends asking them to spread the word about my campaign, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch a few YouTube videos about water, watch TV while feeding myself Custard, tweet about my campaign some more – still no luck 🙁 – and brush my teeth once more.

Today a well respected couple in the community came to visit us and the aunty waltzed into my room and said – in the presence of mother – you will walk, you will work and you will be healed I will pray for you promise me you will trust and in that moment I realized that she didn’t think I could live a full and happy life in a wheelchair which forced me to suppress my laughter and say I promise. Do you take everything people say to you to heart or choose to filter out ignorance?

Day 237

It only takes one moment to turn a bad day into a good one – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 9: 02 PM on day 237 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a banana for breakfast, watch TV, feed myself a KFC Creame Chesse & Sweet Chilli Twister – a wrap consisting of chicken strips, salad and sauce – for lunch, watch some more TV, feed myself a banana for dinner, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – it’s been 11 days since my last donation – I keep count – and I can’t help being a ted bit in awe of my own perseverance because I know that most people in my situation would have said I give up I have my own problems to deal with but not me I’m like a cockroach I keep coming back LOL 🙂 –  and brush my teeth once more.

As you know I am generally a happy person but today I was having an awful day until I stumbled onto a cute video about animals on Facebook. Take a look:

Day 226

Whenever I found out anything remarkable, I have thought it my duty to put down my discovery on paper, so that all ingenious people might be informed thereof. – Antonie van Leeuwenhoek

It’s 7: 50 PM on day 226 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a sweet potato and chutney for breakfast, listen to music, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – no luck – start reading A Purloined Life – the first of two books in Stella Cameron’s Charmed – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch TV, feed myself rice and curry for dinner and tweet about my campaign some more – still no luck 🙁

My brother once told me that sharing was caring and since I care so much for all of you I would like to share with you my latest obsession, Jake Coco – a twenty-six-year-old who reflects God every time he opens his mouth to sing. Take a look:

Day 222

The only way to survive in this life is to accept it the way it is – that’s what I learned today 🙁

It’s 6: 47 PM on day 222 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – no luck – watch a few Youtube videos – Christina Grimmie #5 on my ‘10 Most Talented Youtubers’ list (if you have no idea what I am talking about refer to ‘Day 159’) will be touring with Selena Gomez during the American summer – I am SO for her 🙂 – feed myself rice and curry for lunch and tweet about my campaign some more – still no luck God knows it’s not for a lack of trying 🙂 – feed myself rice and curry for dinner, continue to tweet about my campaign – today is just not my day hopefully someone will take pity on me and donate after I go to sleep LOL 🙂 – and watch TV

This morning my aunt called from Kuwait and I heard her say to my mom if you’re planning on going back to India after you retire you should buy a flat in Ernakulam –the western part of the mainland of Kochi city in Kerala, India – there no one will say anything if you bring Nisha and at first I felt like a freak then I was outraged by the fact that she thought I was going to live with my parents forever considering I planned to make my own money, get married and have kids but after a couple of hours had passed I realized that I had to find a way to deal with the fact that most people would always discriminate against me. Are you resisting the circumstances of your life thereby making it more difficult for yourself to survive?

Day 211

Compassion is sometimes the fatal capacity for feeling what it is like to live inside somebody else’s skin. It is the knowledge that there can never really be any peace and joy for me until there is peace and joy finally for you too. – Frederick Buechner

It’s 9: 10 PM on day 211 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself bun and jam for breakfast, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – no luck – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch TV, feed myself noodles and vegetable curry for dinner and tweet about my campaign some more – ‘Big Sigh’ made a donation – ‘Big Sigh’ I don’t know who you are or how you came across my page but if you’re out there somewhere reading this right now I would just like to say thank you, thank you, thank you 🙂

Yesterday I read on some website that April was Autism Awareness Month in the US and today I made it my mission to learn as much as I possibly could about this developmental disability by watching Youtube videos about it (see below) and what I discovered was that communicating with a person who had Autism was like speaking English to someone who could only understand Chinese which gave me a tremendous amount of sympathy for all those affected by Autism because I knew how difficult it was to be different without having the added burden of a language barrier. Do you have the capacity to feel compassion for those marginalized by society?

Day 171

Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul. – Unknown

It’s 9: 15 PM on day 171 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a chicken hotdog and banana for brunch while watching the Cricket World Cup: South Africa vs. Netherlands – congratulations to The Proteas – our national cricket team – who beat the Dutch quite comfortably in the end 🙂 –tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – no luck  but on the bright side I got my sister’s friend, Jessica to agree to give up her junk food for a week and donate the money –  I love getting the youth involved in giving  it makes me feel oh so good inside 🙂 –    feed myself rice and curry for lunch, exercise for 5 minutes,  tweet about my campaign some more – still no luck –  feed myself bread, grilled and salad for dinner and watch The Oprah Winfrey Show.

A lot of people have complimented me on how articulate I am about my feelings but today as I heard Wake Up Everybody by John Legend & The Roots I realized that I was probably the least articulate person in the entire world because that song did in 4: 09 what I’ve been trying to do for the past 4 years – shake the world out of denial – take a look:

Day 168

Everybody falls but winners’ know how to pick themselves back up again – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 9: 03 PM on day 168 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself  bread and jam for breakfast, watch TV, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – no luck  –  feed myself rice and curry for lunch – without any meat of course 🙂 – tweet about my campaign some more – still no luck –  feed myself   Chapati – an unleavened flatbread – and chicken curry    for dinner   and exercise for 10 minutes – while I was exercising I remembered that I had eaten chicken for dinner I was MORTIFIED LOL but I knew that was nothing I could do to change it so I let it go almost immediately  🙂

Today I was feeling a little blue so I did what I always do and watched 99 Balloons (see below) – thank you Matt sharing your son’s story and showing me what it really means to live in the present – Eliot lives on in me and everybody else who has watched this video.   When you fall down do you stay down or find ways to pick yourself up? 🙂
