Day 282

Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm. – Sir Winston Churchill

It’s 7: 47 PM on day 282 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself French fries and a mango sandwich for breakfast, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – eleven days and counting without a donation – watch TV, tweet about my campaign – no luck –  feed myself rice and curry for lunch, email Salt & Necter – I figured since they wrote about Oprah’s final show they would be willing to write about someone who was inspired by Oprah 🙂 – feed myself rice and curry for dinner, watch some more TV and brush my teeth once more.

Two days ago I received an email in response to my sponsorship request (if you have no idea what I’m talking about refer ‘Day 277’) and it read in part Please may you send through a formal letter with a letter head as PnP only support charity organizations and not individuals. and although I was severely bummed out at the time I now realize that real change comes from the actions of ordinary people such as you and I so I am asking you to spread the word about Virginia’s Sandwich Run and donate if you can. Do you fail at everything you do because you give up the first time you hear a no?

This is the tweet he uses: @Nisha360 is a brave, smart young woman trying to make a better world for us all. Please help her do an amazing thing. http://bit.ly/hC7vOu

Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.

Thanks to all my friends out there who are helping me make my dream come true: to make a better world for all of us!

Day 257

People’s perceptions of me aren’t personal – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 8: 01 PM on day 257 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a chicken hotdog for breakfast, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign –no luck –send Oprah a thank-you email for everything she’s taught me – I know what you’re thinking I didn’t ask for a donation I didn’t want to be another one of those people who just wanted something from her I’ll find another way to raise the rest of the money 🙂 – send messages to my Facebook friends asking them to spread the word about my campaign, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch a few YouTube videos about water, watch TV while feeding myself Custard, tweet about my campaign some more – still no luck 🙁 – and brush my teeth once more.

Today a well respected couple in the community came to visit us and the aunty waltzed into my room and said – in the presence of mother – you will walk, you will work and you will be healed I will pray for you promise me you will trust and in that moment I realized that she didn’t think I could live a full and happy life in a wheelchair which forced me to suppress my laughter and say I promise. Do you take everything people say to you to heart or choose to filter out ignorance?

Day 152

I am a woman in process. I’m just trying like everybody else. I try to take every conflict, every experience, and learn from it. Life is never dull. – Oprah Winfrey

It’s 11: 25 PM on day 152 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a banana for breakfast, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – no luck today   – feed myself rice  and curry for lunch,  go visit my cousin,   feed myself a KFC Twister  for dinner and watch the  movie Eat Pray Love –  it was SO relatable I could see Elizabeth in every woman I had ever met – I would recommend this movie to the entire female population 🙂

All my life I had been under the misconception that once I had the house, the car and the money my life would be perfect but after watching Eat Pray Love – the movie based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s best-selling autobiography of the same name – I realize that perfection is not a destination but rather a journey. Are you a woman in process or do you believe that you know everything that you need to know about yourself? 🙂

Day 149

Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough. – Oprah Winfrey

It’s 9: 20 PM on day 149 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a chicken polony and lattice   sandwich for brunch while watching TV,    exercise for 10 minutes, feed myself rice and curry  for dinner and tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – no luck today

As you may know I preach gratitude to EVERYONE I meet but today as I laid in bed remembering how guilty I felt for asking my mother to take me to the bathroom I  thought to myself with tears in my eyes  who feels apologetic about needing to go the bathroom God I hate this: I hate having to check if a place has stairs before I go anywhere, I hate needing to be bathed, clothed and pushed around everywhere and in that moment I said to myself tomorrow the dawn will break and you’ll feel better once again and with that I realized that gratitude gave me the foresight to know that anguish and disillusionment doesn’t last forever.  Are you thankful for what you have even in the ‘bad’ times? 🙂

Day 148

Unless you choose to do great things with it, it makes no difference how much you are rewarded, or how much power you have. – Oprah Winfrey

It’s 8: 45 PM on day 148 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – two donations were made to my campaign – the first one was a $20 donation from Andrea of the Brite2Briter Kids Foundation –and the second one was a $16.15 donation from Abdullah – I am SO grateful to both of them 🙂  – feed myself rice and curry for lunch,   exercise for 10 minutes  while watching TV,  feed myself grilled chicken  for dinner and continue reading The Last True Cowboy by Kathleen Eagle – I read for a few hours before it occurred to me that my mom had to turn off the lights and go to bed – there’s just something about reading that I  LOVE so much when I read it’s almost like I forget the people who stare at me my mall, my father who prefers that I go to the other room when people come to visit, my mother who somehow manages to minimize everything I do and my sister who I could never quite live up to.

Today lying on my bed trying to concentrate on the words I was reading I couldn’t help thinking I wish I was Justin Bieber for a day and in that moment I was so overwhelmed with frustration because most celebrities – Oprah and Alyssa Milano excluded – write a cheque and think that that is all there is to giving but having donated money to various different charities myself I can tell you that donating money pales in comparison to giving someone else an opportunity to give and showing them that they can live a fulfilled life without being caught up in the vicious cycle of consumerism. Are you doing great things with your power? 🙂

Day 72

Meditate – empty the mind of thoughts, or concentrate the mind on one thing, in order to aid mental or spiritual development, contemplation, or relaxation.

It’s 6: 49 PM on day 72 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself Oats for breakfast, tweeted people about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no one has donated so far today but hey $2 027 is way better than $0 🙂 –    learn how to do Substitutions with Definite Integrals – it’s simple actually just replace the numbers with variables – peeled and ate a banana – I wish somebody had told me to use my wrist rather than my  fingernails while peeling it maybe than I wouldn’t have wasted an hour of my life doing something that I could have just as easily have done in five minutes LOL 🙂 – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, practise wheeling myself from the couch to the centre of the sitting  room – it took me quite a long time to do it but I think that was because I was watching Oprah while doing it –    and exercise for five minutes – my muscles are a lot less stiff than they were yesterday – I feel AWESOME!!!! 🙂

I used to think that meditation constituted of sitting cross-legged Indian-style and saying Om but yesterday as I was laying in bed listening to the sound of the crickets I realized that meditation is anything that brings stillness to your life. What do you do on a daily bases to bring stillness to your life? 🙂

Day 71

To feel much for others and little for ourselves; to restrain our selfishness and exercise our benevolent affections, constitute the perfection of human nature – Adam Smith.

It’s 6: 47 PM on day 71 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself All-Bran Flakes for breakfast, learn the formula to find the area under any graph –∫_a^b▒〖f(x)dx=F(b)- F(a)〗 – help myself in the bathroom – I debated with myself about whether to write this or leave it out and some of you make feel that this is too much information but at the beginning of this journey I promised myself that I would record every success, failure and embarrassing moment so as to inspire the citizens of the world to be better than they think they are 🙂 – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, and exercise for 30 minutes –I could sense that my mother wasn’t being present while helping me exercise and as a result I became increasingly irritated and my muscles got tighter – overall it wasn’t a particularly pleasurable experience – it never is – but today was especially awful 🙁

As you may or may not know Oprah Winfrey is calling for an end to distracted driving where she is asking people to sign the No Phone Zone pledge agreeing not to text or talk on the phone while driving and even though I don’t drive I fully support this initiative  because at the end of the day NOTHING that anybody has to say to you is worth killing somebody’s mother, father, sister or brother and so with that said I would like to ask all of you to take the pledge and spread the word. Will you help Oprah and I change the world one driver at a time? 🙂
