Day 856

Life is too short– that’s what I keep learning  🙁

It’s  4 : 13 PM on day 856 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to stretch my hamstrings, take off and put on a t-shirt – today I had a hard putting my left hand through it’s sleeve our housekeeper helped me tomorrow I’ll try to do it properly by myself –  brush my teeth,  feed myself an egg sandwich for breakfast,  publish my Disability of the Day feature, practice typing with both hands, listen to music – I LOVE The Up Side of Down by Chris August it’s such an awesome song 🙂 –  watch TV and  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles.

Yesterday I found out Alice Pyne – my biggest inspiration – died on January 12th what struck me most about Alice was her sense of humour and determination to live life to the fullest in spite of terminal cancer (she encouraged people to register to become bone marrow donors, started her own charity, Alice’s Escapes, met amazing people and did amazing things) I have never met Alice in person but through her blog, tweets and Facebook statuses she has inspired me to earn every breath I take by giving more than I can. RIP Alice this world is better because you were in it.

I LOVE hearing from you feel free to leave a comment below.

Day 351

Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy. – Leo Buscaglia

It’s 7: 09 PM on day 351 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, reply to a few comments of this blog, read The Economics of Friendship. And other social media DOHs by Stan Faryna, feed myself oranges for breakfast, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck – watch TV, tweet about my campaign some more–still no luck although somebody did promise to make a donation so it wasn’t a total loss– feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch some TV and feed myself bread and baked beans for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

This morning I was in the bathroom and as per usual I checked for any changes in my body which is normal for every women I suppose but I take it to the extreme if I notice a change or think that there’s something wrong I automatically assume the worst I remember this one time I thought I found a lump in my breast only it was a bone sticking out LOL I will never live that down my siblings still bring that up every once in a while but I honestly don’t mind because they don’t know what it feels like to be put under anesthetic not knowing if you’re going to wake up again– I had to have surgery done on my back when I was younger due to the fact that I had Scoliosis – in any case while I was in the bathroom checking for changes in my body I realized that waiting for the other shoe to drop wasn’t really living so I’ve decided not to worry so much and trust that I’m doing enough to earn my life. Are your worries of tomorrow robbing you of the joys of today?

Day 306

Without health life is not life; it is only a state of languor and suffering – an image of death. – Buddha

It’s 10: 47 PM on day 306 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself Batura and potato for breakfast, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck – feed myself oranges for lunch, prepare my Kid of the Week feature for tomorrow, tweet about my campaign some more – it’s so depressing it seems like most people care more about Marc Antony and Jlo getting divorced than they do about children dying of hunger and thirst 🙁 – read What Am I Responsible For? on Spiritual Journey of a Lightworker – a very good blog post about letting go of the things you don’t control – have dinner with my extended family – we had heaps of fun playing 30 Seconds – the board game – 🙂 – and brush my teeth once more.

At 4 AM this morning I woke up with an excruciating pain in the left-hand side of my lower back and although the same thing had happened last Friday I took the fact that it happened a second time as a sign that I should change my lifestyle – replacing all the “white foods” e.g. pasta and rice with “brown foods” e.g. whole-grain pasta and brown rice eliminating carbonated drinks, chips and fast food and adding fruits and vegetables to my diet in conjunction with thirty minutes of exercise daily – and it is my greatest hope that you will follow in my footsteps more or less making your own replacements, eliminations and additions as you go along. Are you taking care of your health so that you can live life to the fullest?

Day 280

It always seems impossible until it is done. – Nelson Mandela

It’s 6: 51 PM on day 280 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself an French fries and a polony sandwich for breakfast, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck – watch TV, tweet and Facebook about my campaign – no luck but at least I know that I know that I did EVERYTHING I could to make a difference 🙂 – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, continue to tweet about my campaign – still no luck but hey tomorrow is another day 🙂 – feed myself boiled tapioca and beef curry for dinner, watch some more TV and brush my teeth once more.

As I’ve mentioned in one of my previous posts being an Indian girl/woman means your whole life is planned out for you, you grow up, go to school, go to university, get a job, get married, have 2-3 kids and live out the rest of your life there are no shortcuts or detours which is why I nearly fell off my chair when I found out yesterday that my cousin was going to Europe on vacation although now that I think about it this is what I would have said if I were talking to her on the phone thank you for leading the way maybe now someday when I have enough money and want to go on vacation mommy and daddy won’t have a problem with it. Do you have it in you to be like my cousin and do something that has never been done before?

Day 259

Rules are a cautious person’s excuse for not participating in life – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 15 PM on day 259 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign –no luck – read and leave comments on Connor’s Song and A Deaf Mom Shares Her World – both very inspirational blogs about life, love and overcoming the odds 🙂 – feed myself a polony sandwich for breakfast, watch TV, email Kidz – a disability website – my story – holding thumbs that they’ll publish it 🙂 – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch some more TV, feed myself Pizza for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Today I stumbled onto an article called 30 Things A Woman Should Not Try Before 30 and while I did agree with some of the things on that list I believe that rules are highly overrated so I say live your life the way you want to as long as you don’t hurt yourself or anybody else in the process because at end of the day the best things in life are unplanned. Have you sucked all the fun out of your life by walking around with a checklist in the back of your mind?
