Day 2497: Live in What Is

Live in what is not what you wish was – that’s my message to the world

It’s 11 : 57 AM on day 2497 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read John 8:34  have breakfast, and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised to $1 775 only $10 725 more to raise  by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

This morning my mom said something that I will not repeat (it’s nothing awful just private) and I responded live in what is not what you wish was which is something I live by every day.

Day 1461: Choose Happiness

When you live in the present instead of worrying about the future you choose to be happy – that’s what I learned today.

It’s 12 : 40 PM on day 1461 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, go back to bed, feed myself bread with egg for breakfast, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  pray and read Psalm 149.

Today I was having a crappy day emotionally until I decided to live in the present instead of worrying about the future I’m not saying that people shouldn’t keep their futures in mind I’m just saying the future is not a good place to live. Do you choose to be happy by living in the present instead of worrying about the future?

Day 1331: Are you present in all aspects of your life?

I have to be present in all aspects of my life – that’s what I keep learning.

It’s 12  : 30 PM on day 1331 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth,  read Psalm 18,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,   promote my Eradicate AIDS campaign – still on $602.85 things could be worse I suppose I could be on $0 (thank you to God and everybody else who has helped get my Eradicate AIDS campaign this far I REALLY appreciate it)    –  feed myself All Bran Flakes for breakfast,  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, stretch my hamstrings and promote my campaign some more – still on 60% so far today(God I know you have more important things to do but if you have a few minutes to spare could you help me help people living with and dying of HIV/AIDS. Please and thank you)

Yesterday something happened that reinforced the fact that I have to be present in all aspects of my life I can’t change what has happened and I can’t control what will happen all I can do is do the best I can in the present moment. Are you present in all aspects of your life?

Day 1193: Enjoying the in between

Life is not about crossing things off your to-do list it’s about all the moments in between – that’s what I realized today 🙂

It’s 12  : 47 PM on day 1193 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray,  brush my teeth, read 1 Chronicles 26, publish my Disability of the Day feature,    feed myself  boiled egg and bran flakes for breakfast, spend time outside and hang out with my family.

This morning I realized life is not about crossing things off your to-do list it’s about all the moments in between I wake up every day with a list of things to do and I get everything done but as a result of being so goal oriented I’m seldom in the moment I want to change that. Are you too busy crossing things off your to-do list to enjoy your life?

Day 1120: Live in the what is

Live in the what is and not in the what could have or should have been– that’s what I keep learning.

It’s 1 : 21 PM on day 1120 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself boiled egg and All Bran Flakes for breakfast,  pray, read 2 Samuel 23,    publish my Disability of the Day feature and tweet and Facebook about my campaign – nobody donated so far today either in spite of my best efforts.

Recently someone close to me said again poor thing if you could walk you would have done so many things I’ve heard variations of that from many people and I know it’s not meant as an insult but when you wake up every day and try to make the world a better place and still hear people say if you could walk you would have done so many things you can’t help but feel insulted I guess I have to be patient and show people that I can do great things even if I can’t walk. Are you always thinking about what could have or should have been instead of making the best of what is?

Day 1054: Being present in every moment

Be present in all the moments of your life ― that’s what I keep learning.

It’s 12  : 37 PM on day 1054 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to stretch my hamstrings,   pray, read Judges 13,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,  brush my teeth,   feed myself  All Bran Flakes for breakfast,        tweet and Facebook about my campaign –  no one made a donation so far today – and  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles.

Yesterday I was feeling oh so awful but since there was almost nothing I could do about it I accepted it and perhaps because of that I’m back to my normal self again (thanks again God) in life we can’t choose what happens to us but we can choose how we react to it.  Are you in the moment every moment of your life?

Day 908

There’s nothing that I can do about something that’s already been done – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 4 : 15 PM on day 908 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to work on this blog, brush my teeth,  pray,   read Exodus 28, feed myself a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, publish my Disability of the Day feature, practice typing with both hands and stretch my hamstrings.

Today I may have made a colossal mistake by spending money on something that I am unable to download I contacted the people who created the product and asked them for assistance if they can help me great if not, I’m not going to beat myself up over it I can’t go back and unspend the money I spent so why torture myself. Do you beat yourself up over past mistakes?

I LOVE hearing from you feel free to leave a comment below.

Day 826

Those who live in what could have been miss what is– that’s what I keep learning 🙁

It’s  6 : 10 PM on day 826 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  stretch my hamstrings, brush my teeth,  publish my Disability of the Day feature,   practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, practice typing with both hands, feed myself brown rice and curry for lunch and watch TV.

This morning my mom was saying if you could you would do so much to help me thing is I can do a lot – I built a well in Kenya (while living in South Africa and sitting on a wheelchair), I got myself on the October issue of Longevity magazine,  I can eat by myself, I can drink by myself and if everything I needed to make a sandwich was within reach I could even make my own sandwich –  only she won’t give me the chance to and that I guess is my message to  parents of kids who have special needs give your kids a chance they can do more than you think. Are you missing out on what is because you live in what could have been?

I LOVE hearing from you feel free to leave a comment below.

Day 415

As you grow older your theories change – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 13 PM on day 415 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck other than the donation Chrissy (@ChrissyPappas) made yesterday – thanks again Chrissy :)–publish my Disability of the Day feature,  feed myself All-Bran Flakes with banana for brunch,  tweet about my campaign some more–still no luck – watch TV, feed myself a baked bean sandwich and grilled chicken for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Today I read a tweet to me from Amber-Lee (@girlygrizzly) which said I’m SOOOOO sick, but doin! How are YOU doing? Are we getting closer? Are you happy? I’ve been loving your site lately… and I asked myself am I happy to which the answer was yes because four of the following components two of which – gratitude and giving – were components in my original happiness formula come together six out of seven days:

1. Being present: I never think I wonder what my life would been like if I could walk because it’s pointless it won’t serve me in any way although that doesn’t stop my mother from saying things like if my daughter could walk she could have done so many things in front of me when no one else is around.

2. Having faith: I don’t know the Bible off by heart and I am not perfect but over the last couple of years I have learned not to question God after all He has done more with my life than I could have think about it I can’t even go to the bathroom by myself and yet I wake up every day and try to change the world if that’s not God working through me I don’t know what is.

3. Gratitude: In today world where it’s all about accumulation of money and material objects I have found that it’s not how much we have that matters but rather how much we are grateful for my dad is the perfect example of this he has his family, a job, a house, a car, basically everything you would need to live a great life but since all he can see is what he doesn’t have he might as well not have even the things he has.

4. Giving: Once you see all that you have by being grateful you will naturally want others to have as much or more than you do so you will give and when you do give you will realize that that hole in your heart you’ve been trying to fill with things could only be filled by the joy of giving.

Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.

Thanks to all my friends out there who are helping me make my dream come true: to make a better world for all of us!

Day 259

Rules are a cautious person’s excuse for not participating in life – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 15 PM on day 259 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign –no luck – read and leave comments on Connor’s Song and A Deaf Mom Shares Her World – both very inspirational blogs about life, love and overcoming the odds 🙂 – feed myself a polony sandwich for breakfast, watch TV, email Kidz – a disability website – my story – holding thumbs that they’ll publish it 🙂 – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch some more TV, feed myself Pizza for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Today I stumbled onto an article called 30 Things A Woman Should Not Try Before 30 and while I did agree with some of the things on that list I believe that rules are highly overrated so I say live your life the way you want to as long as you don’t hurt yourself or anybody else in the process because at end of the day the best things in life are unplanned. Have you sucked all the fun out of your life by walking around with a checklist in the back of your mind?
