Day 2702: #SaveWater and #DefeatDayZero

“Water is the driving force of all nature.” – Leonardo da Vinci

It’s 1 : 56 AM on day 2702 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read  Psalm 37:37  and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised  $7 431 only $5 069 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot (thanks so much to everyone who has helped out so far).

As you may or may not know Cape Town and other parts of South Africa are running dry due to lack of rain and wasteful water consumption so today I’m sharing below some tips (provided by the Department of Water and Sanitation and other stakeholders) as to how all of us can save water. No matter where you live in South Africa I implore you to take individual responsibility for your water consumption so that our actions may have a significant collective impact.

Day 2353: Water, Perspective and my Extraordinary Mommy

Perspective is everything– that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 12  :  00 PM on day 2353 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  read Isaiah 40:30-31  and learn a new word – Definitions for statecraft 1. the art of government and diplomacy.

This morning I was whining about how other suburbs in town had water while ours didn’t and my mom said to me at least they have water so we can take from them suddenly I was grateful that other people had water (there are moments I cannot believe my mom is really my mom she is truly extraordinary in every way).

Note: Our water is now back (thank you God)

Day 2044: Water Appreciation

You don’t know what you got till it’s gone – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 12 : 00 PM on day 2044 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Revelation 21,   have breakfast, listen to The Good Stuff – a radio show that brings us good news stories from around the globe  – learn one new thing – Sharks have a tongue referred to as a “basihyal”. The basihyal is a small, thick piece of cartilage located on the floor of the mouth of sharks and other fishes. It appears to be useless for most sharks with the exception of the cookiecutter shark.  –  and work on my 25 Smiles Campaign –  raised $5 506 only $744  more to raise by 10 Jan 2017  (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far :)  ).

Yesterday one of the water pipes in our town broke and since then nobody in town has had water I have always appreciated water but now I appreciate it even more doing the most basic things without water is a challenge. Conserve and appreciate water it is one of our most precious resources.

Day 1541: My Newfound Appreciation for Water

You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 12 : 06 PM on day 1541 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, read Isaiah 26,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, stretch my hamstrings,  promote my Educate Generations campaign– on $940  – feed myself egg with bread and bananas for breakfast, read and comment on How To Benefit From Your Blog Community and continue promoting my campaign – still on $940 but I’m working on changing that 🙂

This morning we woke up to find that we had no water I always knew water was important I just didn’t realize how essential it was in daily life until we didn’t have it.

Day 1106: Experiences that forever change you

Some things you do change you forever– that’s what I learned today.

It’s 3  : 04 PM on day 1106 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  feed myself  boiled egg and All Bran Flakes for breakfast,  pray, read 2 Samuel 9, publish my Disability of the Day feature,     tweet and Facebook about my campaign – nobody donated so so far today either – go visit family and feed myself brown rice, vegetables and chicken curry for lunch.

Today I noticed a tap in the bathroom was leaking and because of the things I learned while raising money to build a well in Kenya I just couldn’t have that so I asked my mom to close the tap tightly immediately it’s cool to see that something I did three years ago still affects me. Are you forever changed by something you did in the past?

Day 543

We are all more than we appear to be only some people don’t understand that so they make assumptions – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 5 : 46 PM on day 543 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,   work – in between work I  prepared and published my Disability of the Day feature –   drink tea by myself, work some more,  feed myself a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast, continue working, feed myself rice and curry for lunch,  watch TV and go to physiotherapy – I don’t have to go again until next month my physiotherapist is going on vacation can you say yay 🙂

Today as I was waiting for the laptop to switch on I remembered the visitor who came over to our house last week, saw me using the laptop and asked what are you playing to which my mom replied she’s not playing she’s working on her projects remembering that I smiled because I finally realized that I shouldn’t be bothered what people think of me because they’re going to think that I do nothing regardless of what I do. Are you able to see people for more than what they appear to be?

Day 542

I don’t think you ever stop giving. I really don’t. I think it’s an on-going process. And it’s not just about being able to write a check. It’s being able to touch somebody’s life. ~ Oprah Winfrey

It’s 8 : 20 PM on day 542 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,   work – in between work I  prepared and published my Disability of the Day feature –   drink tea by myself, feed myself a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast, work some more, feed myself rice and curry for lunch,  watch TV, feed myself a peanut butter sandwich for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

As you know my Clean Water For All Campaign ended on March 5th 2012 and although it’s only been three days I already miss actively giving so I have decided to start 21 for 21 – a campaign which asks all those who can to donate $21 ($1 for every year that I’ve been alive) to the United Nations World Food Programme (a donation of $1 = 4 cups of food) the campaign ends on 25 March 2012 (the day of my 21st birthday) – all those interested in helping out can click the ‘Donate’ button below and donate $21 to my PayPal account which I will donate to the World Food Programme at the end of my campaign on my birthday (Note: I will forward my donation receipt to all donors in the interest of transparency).

(Update: The campaign is now over I donated a total of $252 to the United Nations World Food Programme)

Day 541

We should fight for what we believe in but do so in a manner that doesn’t infringe on the human rights of others– that’s what I learned today 🙁

It’s 8 :  30 PM on day 541 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,   work – in between work I  prepared and published my Disability of the Day feature –   drink tea by myself, feed myself garlic bread for breakfast, work some more,  exercise, feed myself rice and curry for lunch,  continue working, watch TV, feed myself mango for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Today Cosatu – South Africa’s largest trade union – called on all its members to down tools in protest against labor brokers and e-tolling – the government wants us to pay an exorbitant amount to use the roads – and most obliged which made the protest a huge “success” most schools were closed and the economy lost millions after today I realize that sometimes success can be failure in disguise and vise-versa. Do you fight for what you believe in infringing on the human rights of others in the process?

Day 540

You should compromise on everything except your dreams – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 25  PM on day 540 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature, edit this blog – I deleted  some stuff related to my campaign so no one will get confused and think my campaign is still going on –  work, drink tea by myself, feed myself a peanut butter sandwich for brunch, work some more, feed myself rice and curry for dinner and  brush my teeth once more.

Today I was offered a full time job and although that job would earned me what I earn from two freelance jobs I turned it down because I had dream of building my own legacy I guess my message to you guys is don’t sell your dreams to the highest bidder because sticking to your guns would mean you would have to work twice as heard. Do you compromise on your dreams and nothing else?

Day 539

If you believe you can, you can – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 8:  32 PM on day 539 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, edit my Firstgiving page thanking and informing people that the page no longer accepted donations, post message on Twitter and Facebook thanking people for their support (thank you guys – again – for all you done in support of my campaign),  work,  prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature,   drink tea by myself, feed myself a mango pickle sandwich for breakfast,   work some more, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch TV, brush my teeth once more and exercise.

As most of you know from reading my tweets and Facebook postings my campaign ended today which made me think me about all the times I plowed through and didn’t give up when people told me no one will donate just goes to show if you believe in yourself rather than in what people say to you there’s nothing you can’t achieve. Have you reached your goals in spite of your detractors?
