Day 881

Being Christian, if you take it seriously, is no joke – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s  4 : 12 PM on day 881 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  brush my teeth, put on a new t-shirt, pray,  read Exodus 1, go to church – the kids from Sunday School came to visit us it was too precious for words lots of singing and dancing I strive to live life with child-like faith children believe in God just because –     feed myself Chapati and potato  curry for breakfast, drink coffee by myself, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  publish my Kid of the Week feature,    practice typing with both hands and practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles.

This morning was drab and dreary and I really didn’t feel like going to church but I got up and went anyway I figured it was the least I could do for all God has done for me when I was younger I only used to pray and read The Bible when my life was going badly but now I realize that being Christian is reading The Bible when you’d rather be doing something else, praying even when you feel like God has gone on vacation, turning the other cheek when you’d rather punch someone out… being Christian is a commitment you make to put God first every moment of your life regardless of whether your life is going well or not. Do you take your faith seriously?

Day 797

When you see yourself as a representative of God it’s pretty hard to do the wrong thing  – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s  4 : 45 PM on day 797 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to stretch my hamstrings, brush my teeth, publish my Disability of the Day feature, publish my Kid of the Week feature, practice typing with both hands, go to church and go with my sister and her friends to watch Breaking Dawn Part 2 – I really like that they added a few surprises while staying true to the book I give it 8/10 only because I feel like they skipped through some of the scenes a little too quickly  (I read the books so I couldn’t help comparing the books to the movies).

This morning while people were singing in church I realized that it’s hard for me to do the wrong thing because I see myself as a representative of my family, my community and God when you see yourself as a representative of God you tend to think twice before you do or say things because you know that whatever you do or say reflects on God.  Is it hard for you to do the wrong thing because you believe what you believe?

Day 768

Wherever you go carry your culture and traditions – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 5 : 19 PM on day 768 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  brush my teeth,  publish my Disability of the Day feature, go to an Indian church service and feed myself rice and curry for lunch.

Today while at the Indian church service I couldn’t help comparing the western church service to the Indian church service in western church services you can show up whenever you feel like, there’s no particular dress code, the services last for a maximum of an hour, there’s no preparation before you take Holy Communion whereas, Indian church services are three hours long, you’re not allowed to eat or drink anything before you take Holy Communion, women have to wear scarves on their heads… it’s just more intense I’m glad I got to experience that again because it showed me how important it was to pass on our culture, traditions and religious practices on to the next generation. Have you abandoned your culture and traditions to fit into the western world?

Day 762

Faith is an important part of life – that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s  3 : 51 PM on day 762 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, publish my Disability of the Day feature, publish my Kid of the Week feature, go to church – the sermon was titled Worthy of Love  the reverend said something I will never forget as  long as I live he said some things are loved because they are worthy others are worthy because they are loved –  feed myself  All Bran Flakes and  an apple for breakfast,     spend time with family and visitors,  feed myself rice and curry for lunch and listen to music.

Today sitting in church before the service started I tried to imagine what my life would be like if I thought everything happened at random and I realized I would go crazy it’s because of my faith that I’m able to deal with anything life throws at me I believe that a person who lives life without believing in something is feeling their way through life hoping they’ll end up where they’re supposed to.  Is faith an important part of your life?

Day 732

Everybody has a right to what they believe– that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s  6 : 56 PM on day 732 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  feed myself  a peanut butter sandwich  for breakfast, drink milk  by myself,    publish my Disability of the Day feature,  work,  watch TV, feed myself rice and curry for lunch and brush my teeth once more.

Yesterday I heard about the filmmaker who made a film depicting Prophet  Muhammad as a madman and although I don’t know that person as a Christian I would like to say to all the Muslims out there I’m so sorry that person doesn’t represent  all Christians I know I would feel awful if someone portrayed Jesus that way.    Do you try to force your beliefs on other people?

Day 489

There is no question that the bible can’t answer. – my maternal grandma

It’s 7: 29 PM on day 489 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, drink tea by myself, go to church – the sermon was titled Being right is not enough and was basically about how we shouldn’t exercise our freedoms and engage in things that give us pleasure if it means leading our fellow man astray– feed myself Batura and chicken curry for breakfast, prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature, prepare and publish my Kid of the Week feature, feed myself pizza for lunch, hang out with my cousin’s kids, go visit some people and brush my teeth once more.

Today while at church I remembered the discussion I had with my grandma – my mother’s mother – about Christianity in which she asked me if I read the bible and I explained to her that I expressed my Christianity by helping others suffice to say she was disappointed and said something along the lines of your actions are admirable but you should read the bible there is no question the bible cannot answer so from today onwards in honour of my grandma I am going to read the bible– our church (the one that we go to here in South Africa) lists verses we should read every day of the week at the back of their notices I’ll read those first. Are you under the misconception that being Christian consists solely of going to church, reading the bible and praying?

Day 442

What’s lacking in this world is action– that’s what I learned today 🙁

It’s 7: 18 PM on day 442 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself Corn Flakes for breakfast, practice typing with both hands, prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign– no luck – watch Love, Wedding, Marriage–a story about  a happy newlywed marriage counselor’s views on wedded bliss getting thrown for a loop when she finds out her parents are getting divorced starring Kellan Lutz, Alyson Hannigan and Mandy Moore – on DVD,     feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch TV, tweet some more about my campaign – still no luck – and watch some more TV.

Last night as we were praying together as a family I wondered what would happen if instead of praying every Christian got up and did something for someone else don’t get me wrong I love reading the Bible – my favorite reading is Romans 12: 9-21 – but I think people think all Christians have to do to call themselves Christian is pray, read the Bible and go to church when that is so not the truth it’s not even funny all the things we are taught in the Bible have to do with compassion, forgiveness, non-judgment and giving all of which we might be good at within in the walls of the church question is how many of us practice all those things in our everyday lives. Do you profess to be good in all your ways but fail to step in when you witness injustice?

Day 435

And it’s great to tell people about mercy and faith, but first you must also tell them about the law and judgment (Matthew 23:23).

It’s 7: 04 PM on day 435 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, drink coffee by myself,  prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck – feed myself Batura and chicken curry for brunch, watch TV, feed myself a chicken nugget sandwich for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Yesterday evening we were praying together as a family which was a fairly new thing in our house and while my father was reading the Bible I couldn’t help thinking hypocrite he reads the Bible but is ashamed of his own child – my mom has to fight tooth and nail to get him take me to parties and stuff and even when we do go he stands on the other end of the room and pretends we aren’t there – just because she is different when we were done praying I said to my father you don’t have to read the Bible for thirty minutes just learn to treat people properly looking back now I regret the judgment with which I said those words but in that moment I felt like he was mocking God. Do you call people out when they are doing something wrong or leave them alone because you’re afraid of sounding judgmental?

Day 398

Going to church let’s you now if you’re on the right track or not – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 27 PM on day 398 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself cassava and chutney for breakfast, go to church,  publish my Kid of the Week  feature,  prepare and publish my Disability of the Day,  type up one more page for my mother – I have now earned R719 for my campaign 🙂 – feed myself chicken biryani for lunch,  tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck  – and  feed myself  yoghurt for dinner

Today while at church I heard we all have dual citizenship we are citizen of the countries we live in and citizens of the kingdom of God the reverend went on to say that we should shift our mindset from one of ownership – being possessive of our resources – to one of custodianship – acknowledging that whatever we have we have been given to use in service of God and doing as such – which resonated with me because I had felt that way from the moment I started making money of my own and acted on it by donating 25% of my first paycheck to various charities that being said I don’t believe people should nominate me for sainthood or anything of the sort I yell, I scream, I curse, in short I am just an ordinary woman who prides herself on going the extra mile. Do you know whether you’re on the right track or not?

Day 377

The best gift you can give your children is something that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 9: 49 PM on day 377 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, drink coffee in a glass, go to church with my mother, sister and brother–the sermon was entitled When your ‘yes’ means nothing it was about the importance of  keeping your word and having the humility to admit you’re wrong when you are wrong – feed myself All-Bran Flakes for breakfast, publish my Kid of the Week feature, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck  okay to be truthful I only tweeted once the whole day the rest was automated by me last night–  finish reading Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins – it was AWESOME it had everything I’ve ever wanted in a book… action, adventure and romance I can’t wait to finish reading the whole series – go to drop my grandma off at my uncle’s house – she was with us while my uncle and his wife were out of town anyway while we were there our priest popped by and my dad made a fau paux he bolted for the door before the priest had a chance to pray (Indian priests always pray when people leave to go somewhere regardless of the distance) luckily he said let’s pray before my dad stepped out the door –  and brush my teeth once more.

Today while at church I thought for all my mother’s faults she gave me Jesus and because of that I never felt like a fatherless child even though my father is a class A jerk – he has made it abundantly clear through his actions that although he may love me he is also ashamed of me because I have Cerebral Palsy – and to her I say thank you mommy. What have been the best gifts that your parents have passed onto you?
