Day 1455: What makes a Christian?

27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

Luke 6: 27-31

It’s 5 : 58 PM on day 1455 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray,  brush my teeth, go back to sleep, read Psalm 143,    publish my Disability of the Day feature,  publish my Kid of the Week feature, go to an Indian church service – fasting was mandatory by the time we got to the church I had already been awake for 7 hours and the service ended 3 hours later I was starving I had never gone that long without eating I can’t help thinking of people who go without eating every day I couldn’t do it for 10 hours I can’t imagine what it would be like to go without food for days or weeks – and brush my teeth again.

This morning we had to fast before receiving Holy Communion strangely enough I didn’t feel more Christian because I fasted before receiving Holy Communion which made me realize it’s the kind of person you are not the things that you do that make you Christian the priest said as much when he said to be a child of God you have to bless those who curse you and pray for those who mistreat you.

Day 1313: Reflection on Christianity this Good Friday

“God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.”- John 3:16

It’s 12  : 00 PM on day 1313 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  brush my teeth,  read Psalm 4, Matthew 26 and Matthew 27,   pray, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  feed myself egg with bread for breakfast and   promote my Eradicate AIDS campaign – still on $582.85 but I’m not giving up I’m doing this  because I believe nobody should die of HIV/AIDS in this day and age.

Today being Good Friday I was reflecting on the part that Christianity played in me becoming the person I am today I believe that I am forever forgiven for all my sins because Jesus died for me on the cross and believing that obliges me to forgive others unconditionally if God forgives me for all my screw ups why shouldn’t I forgive others for their screw ups.

Day 1214: Stop looking every which way and start looking up

When you feel like everything going to hell in a handbasket stop looking every which way and start looking up – that’s what I realized today.

It’s  12: 09 PM on day 1214 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth,  read 2 Chronicles 17, publish my Disability of the Day feature, feed myself eggs with bread for breakfast and hang out with my family.

This morning I felt like everything was going wrong in that moment I realized I should stop looking every which way and start looking up.  In times of trouble do you look every which way but up?

Day 1182: Are you Christian or do you just do what Christians do?

Being Christian is more important than doing what Christians do– that’s what I realized today.

It’s 12  : 13 PM on day 1182 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth, read 1 Chronicles 15,  publish my Disability of the Day feature, publish my Kid of the Week feature,   feed myself  All Bran Flakes for breakfast, go to church and listen to music.

This morning I really wanted to go to church and we did but not before going back and forth about whether or not we should go before we made our final decision to go I told my mother it’s okay even if we don’t go because I realized doing what was easier for my mother would be more Christian than going to church. Are you Christian or do you just do what Christians do?

Day 1149: Do you let your deeds speak for you?

One good deed is equivalent to a thousand prayers – that’s what I believe.

It’s 12 : 09 PM on day 1149 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray,  brush my teeth, feed myself boiled egg and  Bran Flakes for breakfast,  read 2 Kings 7,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles and hang out with my sister.

A couple of days ago listening to my mom pray I couldn’t help wondering if that’s what God wants – for us to pray all the time – I pray too there’s nothing wrong with it but I believe one good deed is equivalent to a thousand prayers so I try to pray less and do more.  Do you let your deeds speak for you?

Day 1140: Always obey your parents?

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”Ephesians 6:1-3

It’s 2 : 12 PM on day 1140 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,   read 1 Kings 20,    publish my Disability of the Day feature,  publish my Kid of the Week feature, go to church,   go visit my granny,  feed myself  Idli and Sambar  for breakfast and continue reading House Rules by Jodi Picoult.

Today talking about what parents can reasonably expect from their teenagers the person preaching at our church said it’s okay for kids not to obey their parents if what their parents are telling them is different from what Jesus is telling them which really helped me because I’ve often been conflicted about whether or not I should stand up to my elders when they say or do something that I know is wrong.

Day 1134: Don’t Stop Praying

Continue praying even when you feel like nobody’s listening –that’s my message to the world.

It’s 12 : 37 PM on day 1134 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth,  feed myself  Bran Flakes  and boiled egg for breakfast,  read 1 Kings 13,   publish my Disability of the Day feature and   practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles.

Yesterday in a sermon entitled “Don’t Stop Praying” our reverend basically said we should continue to pray even when we feel like nobody’s listening I can attest to the fact that most of the time if we pray for something for long enough we will eventually get what we asked for during my anti-slavery campaign I prayed every day open people’s eyes to scourge of slavery and move them to do something and eventually things happened.  Do you continue praying even when you feel like nobody’s listening?

Day 1091: Using the Bible as a guide

“I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man. All the good from The Savior of the world is communicated to us through this Book.” ― Abraham Lincoln

It’s 12  : 37 PM on day 1091 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray, brush my teeth,  read 1 Samuel 25, publish my Disability of the Day feature,    publish my Kid of the Week feature,  feed myself  boiled egg and Bran Flakes for breakfast, go drop my sister at the airport – every time my sister goes back to university I’m reminded of where I should be in life it’s sad my parents say it doesn’t matter but I know it does they talk about my sister with such pride while they refer to me as their daughter who is “not well” or “slightly sick” – and  tweet and Facebook about my campaign – still no luck.

As you may know I read the Bible every day and although I don’t agree with everything in it there are a lot of things that I read in the Bible that I apply to my daily life yesterday in 1 Samuel 24 I read may the Lord be the judge between you and me may he avenge all the wrongs you have done to me next time somebody wrongs me I won’t even think about retaliating I will just say that. Is the Bible your guide through this journey called life?

Day 1086: Seeking to impress God

The only person you should look to impress is God – that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s 12  : 11 PM on day 1086 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  brush my teeth,  feed myself  boiled egg and Bran Flakes for breakfast,   read 1 Samuel 20,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, pray, tweet and Facebook about my campaign -nobody donated so far today – practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, stretch my hamstrings and promote my campaign some more – still no luck but I’m not worried I know that God is helping me reach my goal even though I can’t see it 🙂

Last night my siblings and I were talking about what people have said about our bodies over the years there was a time in my life when people were saying I was chubby now they’re saying I’m too thin you just can’t win with people that’s why I only try to impress God He will love me no matter how much I weigh or how badly I screw up. Are you trying to impress everybody but the one that matters most?

Day 1042: Showing up for God

There are some places you got to go to whether you feel like it or not – that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s 2  : 36 PM on day 1042 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray,  brush my teeth, feed myself   All Bran Flakes for breakfast,  go to  church, go visit people,  publish my Disability of the Day feature, feed myself sweet potatoes and yoghurt for lunch and  publish my Kid of the Week feature.

This morning my mom insisted that we go to church so I went reluctantly even though I wasn’t feeling my best at all and I am glad I did because I feel like the sermon was meant for it was titled Growing in Christ the reverend talked about how we should show Christ our love by staying connected to him he said and I’m paraphrasing there are three way to stay connected to Christ 1. Go to church regularly whether you feel like it or not, 2. Spend time with Jesus outside of the church and 3. Connect with other Christians what he said really struck a chord with me God does so much for us every day of our lives the least we can do is  show up every week on Sunday even if we don’t feel like it.     Are there some places you go whether you feel like it or not?
