Day 2436: Africa Month

You always learn a lot more when you lose than when you win. ~ African proverb

It’s 12 : 51  PM on day 2436 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,   have breakfast, read Joel 2:28-29  and learn a new word – Definitions for forgettery
a faculty or facility for forgetting; faulty memory: a witness with a very convenient forgettery.

As you may or may not know May is Africa Month and living in Africa it’s an opportunity for me to show the world things about Africa that they seldom get to see this continent is so much more than poverty and disease it’s hope, it’s love, it’s compassion , it’s generosity, it’s joy, it’s diversity, it’s untapped potential … Africa is me I am Africa.

Day 2435: Blessed and Protected

I’m blessed beyond measure– that’s what I know.

It’s 1 : 03  PM on day 2434 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,   have breakfast, read Exodus 31: 3  and learn a new word – Definitions for holus-bolus
all at once; altogether.

Today a person with criminal intent jumped over our fence and was roaming around our yard (I saw him walk across our yard but he did not see me) thankfully security was called and nobody was harmed but I continue to be amazed when I escape these situations completely unharmed it’s like there’s a veil of protection that surrounds me I am forever grateful.

Day 2433: Difficult Yet Meaningful Things

The things that require effort are the ones often worth doing and are the most fulfilling– that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 12 : 38 PM on day 2433 of my journey towards independence and I managed to hang out family, pray,   have breakfast, do some work, read 143: 10  and learn a new word – Definitions for rosarian 1. a person who is fond of, develops, or cultivates roses.

This morning I realized that the things that require effort are the ones often worth doing and are the most fulfilling which I know is what most people say but it really is true doing the easy thing is easy so we don’t take pride in it but one can take lots of pride in doing difficult yet meaningful things with God in us.

Day 2431: Limitless Mindset in a Limited Body

My mindset is limitless but my body is not – that’s what I have realized.

It’s 11 : 19 AM on day 2431 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 2 Corinthians 9: 8   have breakfast  and learn a new word – Definitions for saudade
(in Portuguese folk culture) a deep emotional state of melancholic longing for a person or thing that is absent: the theme of saudade in literature and music.

Yesterday I realized that my mindset is limitless but my body is not which is incredibly frustrating I know that I, as a person, can do anything but since some of the parts of my body are not as functional as they could be (though I’m incredibly grateful for my health) I’m forced to pump the brakes on my limitless mindset.

Day 2430: No Skydiving For Me Ever

Be flexible in your method but stay committed to your purpose  – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 11 : 35 AM on day 2430 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  have breakfast, read Proverbs 31: 10 and learn a new word – Definitions for sophistry
1. a subtle, tricky, superficially plausible, but generally fallacious method of reasoning.
2. a false argument; sophism.

Today my Orthopaedic Surgeon’s office called back answering the question I asked them about whether it would be safe for me to skydive and sadly the answer is no, under no circumstances needless to say I’m super-bummed about it but my goal in life is to make a difference and change perceptions about the differently-abled while having fun I can do that without jumping out of a plane I can do that by writing books, travelling, telling my story everywhere….I can do that just by being myself.

Day 2428: People Before Things ALWAYS

People before things ALWAYS – that’s always my message to the world.

It’s 11 : 07 AM on day 2428 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  have breakfast, read Isaiah 26: 12 and learn a new word – Quixotic
adj. 1. Idealistic without regard to practicality; impractical. 2. Impulsive: tending to act on whims or impulses. “It was clearly a quixotic case against the defendant.”

This morning, like every other morning, I prayed and counted my blessings I noticed that on my gratitude list I always mention the people I am grateful for and health before I mention the things I am grateful for because I know that people and health, unlike things, are irreplaceable.

Day 2426: 4 Different Ways To Be Kind

There are different ways to be kind – that’s what I have realized.

It’s 10 : 25 AM on day 2426 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  have breakfast, read Nehemiah 1:5 and learn a new word – Odious (o·di·ous) adj. Extremely unpleasant; repulsive. Deserving of hatred or repugnance. “The detective said it was the most odious crime she had ever seen.”

Recently I realized that there are different ways to be kind kindness is not always donating money or even volunteering sometimes kindness is patience or giving a genuine compliment.

Day 2425: Labels and Me

Labels limit people– that’s what I know.

It’s 11 : 20 AM on day 2425 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  have breakfast, read Matthew 6: 9, and learn a new word – Acerbic [a·cer·bic] adj. Sharp or biting, as in character or expression. “The director occasionally allowed an acerbic tone to an otherwise subtle dialogue.”

This morning I was thinking about my evolving relationship with labels first I thought of myself as disabled, then I thought of myself as differently-abled and now I will say my movement and speech are affected because I have a neurological condition called Cerebral Palsy it will probably take a lot longer to say that than just to say I’m disabled or differently-abled but it’s more factual and has less negative connotations than the words disabled or differently-abled do.

Day 2424: Turn Your Disappointment Into Something Awesome

Take your disappointment and turn it into something awesome – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 10 : 13 AM on day 2424 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  have breakfast, read Revelation 4:8, and learn a new word – Definitions for coruscant
sparkling or gleaming; scintillating; coruscating.

Yesterday I wanted something and I did not get it but it turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to me because I took my disappointment and turned it into something better than what I originally wanted.

Day 2423: Be Your First Choice

Be your first choice for everything – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 10 : 48 AM on day 2423 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Jeremiah 17:5,  have breakfast and learn a new word – Definitions for minatory
menacing; threatening.

Recently I found myself wishing that just once I was somebody’s first choice and thankfully I was to that person who showed up for me but now I’m realizing I should be okay even if I’m everybody else’s second choice because I should be my first choice for everything.
