Day 313

Ninety-nine percent of the population is kind and caring it’s just the other one percent that are selfish and egotistical – that’s what I learning today.

It’s 8: 33 PM on day 313 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, donate £7.36 to Sophie Brown’s cause – Sophie visited South-West Uganda with her mom and she was so touched by the plight of the children there that she started raising money to building a classroom I LOVE her she’s a girl after my own heart 🙂 – make 40 sandwiches for our housekeeper’s neighborhood (if you have no idea what I’m talking about refer to Virginia’s Sandwich Run) – a HUGE shoutout to my baby brother – he’s 10 turning 11 next month – for helping me make the sandwiches today I am SO SO SO proud of you buddy today you became a real-life HERO! 🙂 – feed myself chicken biryani for lunch, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck – prepare my Kid of the Week feature for tomorrow – this week’s Kid of the Week is 2011 Miss Teen Maryland In’tl. 2 time Presidential Volunteer Service Award. Owner M.O.D.E.L.S. (Making Ongoing Differences in Every Life through Service) Margo Huffman feed myself sweet potatoes and plain yoghurt mixed with onions and chilies for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Yesterday I was watching (TV)5 – radio on TV – and they featured some of their DJs who were part of Bikers for Mandela – a group of South African celebrities who travelled across the country spending sixty-seven minutes in service at each one of their stops – and not thirty minutes after that MTV’s My Super Sweet Sixteen – a show about teenagers and how much time and money they will spend on their sweet sixteen parties – aired my point is the world is screwed up and we should learn how to distinguish between the great and the down-right idiotic. Are you part of the ninety-nine percent or the one percent?

Are we connecting on Twitter? If not, say hi at http://twitter.com/Nisha360

If you’ve given to my cause or you can’t give now, please help me by sharing my cause with others. You can tweet about it like my friend Stan Faryna. This is the tweet he uses: @Nisha360 is a brave, smart young woman trying to make a better world for us all. Please help her do an amazing thing. http://bit.ly/hC7vOu

Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.

Thanks to all my friends out there who are helping me make my dream come true: to make a better world for all of us!

Day 191

The media is making parenting very difficult – that’s what I learned today 🙁

It’s 9: 16  PM on day 191 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself rice and curry for lunch,  tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – no luck – and watch TV.

This evening I was watching my brother watching WWE – World Wrestling Entertainment – and I realized with great sadness that the media was responsible for the increase in violence and promiscuity amongst kids having said that I would like to tell all the boys and girls out there that you don’t have to get into fights and have sex to be cool and have fun just ask my friends Sophie (@SophieBrown95 on Twitter) and Kendall –Sophie is a 16-year-old from the UK who’s raising money to raising money to build a school for village children in South-West Uganda while Kendall from the USA founded Kids Caring 4 Kids – an organization which aims to raise awareness and money for AIDS orphans and other highly venerable kids in Africa and to inspire kids to care for others in need – in 2004 at the tender age of 11. Are you parenting on autopilot or do actively seek out positive role models for your children?

Day 118

Deeds, not stones, are the true monuments of the great – John L. Motley.

It’s 6: 58 PM on day 118 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself  Pasta for breakfast,  tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – still no luck:( –  feed myself rice and curry for lunch and exercise for 20 minutes – my  left still feels like it’s on fire – aw 🙁

In a world where fame and fortune take precedence over true greatness we seldom take the opportunity to celebrate those who serve humanity selflessly which is why I would like to introduce you to Sophie Brown – the girl who restored my faith in the youth of today.

I’m a 15 year old school girl who visited Uganda with my mum for the first time in August 2010. Whilst there, I assisted at a school in South-West Uganda set up by a local with the help of funding by Ann McCarthy (a Surrey grandmother) with lessons and games, helped serve the daily helping of porridge to the children (for many of the 150 children this is their only guaranteed meal every day), and basically had a great time learning about a very different culture. During our 2 weeks we also had the opportunity to see the capital city, Kampala, attend a wedding and a funeral in the village (they’re very different to any I’ve ever attended before!), spend a weekend at the beautiful border area of Lake Bunyoni, and went on a memorable 3 day camping safari. The local football team entertained us with a couple of very competitive (mostly barefoot!) league football games and we entertained ourselves in the evenings playing pool and chatting to the locals who visited Uganda Lodge.
All in all, we had an amazing experience with local Ugandan villagers who were very poor in material terms but so very rich in spiritual terms. It was a joyful and humbling experience which will live with us forever.

Since coming back to the UK I’ve been planning my return trip which will take place in summer 2011. I am aiming to raise £250 towards the balance of my travelling costs and £1000 towards building a classroom for village children in rural South-West Uganda which I’ll be able to complete by helping to paint and supply with English and Maths aids to encourage the kids’ learning whilst out in Uganda!

I would be so grateful for ANY support you can give. Please remember to gift aid if you can! It really does make a difference.
