Day 1060: Happy Birthday Kevin

To the outside world we all grow old.
But not to brothers and sisters.
We know each other as we always were.
We know each other’s hearts.
We share private family jokes.
We remember family feuds and secrets,
family griefs and joys.
We live outside the touch of time.
-Clara Ortega

It’s 12  : 03 PM on day 1060 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  brush my teeth,   feed myself   Bran Flakes and peanut butter sandwich  for breakfast,     read Judges 19,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, pray,     tweet and Facebook about my campaign – I think it was Albert Einstein who once said insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result I’m beginning to wonder if I’m persistent or just insane please God help me raise the $250 more I need to reach goal   – and  make sandwiches as part of Virginia’s Sandwich Run with our housekeeper’s help – I think about Virginia a lot especially when I’m making sandwiches for the kids in our current housekeeper’s neighborhood she was such an awesome human being she loved my family as much as she loved her own.

Today is a big day at our house my baby brother turns 13 I can hardly believe it I still remember the first time I held him he was  wearing a light blue baby outfit and I was sitting on a dark blue pushchair. Happy Birthday Kevin may you always be sweet, kind and compassionate.

Day 278

You should celebrate the lives of legends while they’re still alive – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 45 PM on day 278 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself an egg sandwich for breakfast, drink coffee, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck– feed myself rice and curry for lunch, tweet about my campaign some more – still no luck 🙁 –prepare my Kid of the Week feature for tomorrow, go visit my cousin who had just come back home from university – he wasn’t there he went to the movies with our niece and nephew so we entertained ourselves by watching TV while the adults talked in the living room – feed myself McDonald chicken nuggets and French fries for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

As you know I hold Nelson Mandela in VERY high esteem which is why with only a month to go till his 93rd birthday I have created Happy 93rd Birthday Mr. Nelson Mandela – a Facebook page where people can post messages, pictures etc and share their love for Mr. Mandela with the world – and am asking you to participate. Do the legends of your life before need to die before you recognize them as such?

Are we connecting on Twitter? If not, say hi at http://twitter.com/Nisha360

If you’ve given to my cause or you can’t give now, please help me by sharing my cause with others. You can tweet about it like my friend Stan Faryna. This is the tweet he uses: @Nisha360 is a brave, smart young woman trying to make a better world for us all. Please help her do an amazing thing. http://bit.ly/hC7vOu

Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.

Thanks to all my friends out there who are helping me make my dream come true: to make a better world for all of us!

Day 145

Every birthday, you decide whether to mark it the end of your greatest days or the beginning of your finest hour. – Oprah Winfrey

It’s 11: 30 PM on day 145 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to watch Inception on DVD – it was MIND-BLOWING – there was so many layers to the story I would recommend it to anyone who likes a movie that makes them think because it was written in such a way that you – the audience –  felt compelled to connect the dots –   brush my teeth, feed myself Chapati – an unleavened flatbread – and  beef curry for breakfast,  tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – no luck today   – feed myself bun and baked beans  for dinner, exercise for 10 minutes and continue reading The Last True Cowboy by Kathleen Eagle – I couldn’t finish reading it last year because my sister had to return it to the library when her school term ended but on the plus side I’m only a hundred or so pages from finishing it 🙂

As you may or may not I’m turning 20 on March 25th and although I don’t usually make a huge fuss about turning a year older this year I wanted to do something truly global to commemorate the occasion so with that in mind I asked my Twitter and Facebook friends to do something nice for someone else in the next 48 days leading up to my birthday and it is my greatest hope that you will do the same. Do you embrace your birthday or resist it? 🙂
