Day 386

Better to have too high a standard than too low a standard – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 36 PM on day 386 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself yoghurt for breakfast, prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature,  practice typing with both hands, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – Chrissy (@chrissy_bertolo) made a donation – thanks Chrissy I REALLY appreciate you donating the money you usually use to buy coffee to my campaign I wish more people were like you 🙂 – listen to music, feed myself rice and curry for lunch,  watch TV and feed myself a banana for dinner.

This morning my sister and I were discussing books and she said you’re so picky which I now realize was a complement although I didn’t at the time because most people of my generation settle for anything they have whether it be love from an abusive boyfriend or terrible books because they believe they don’t deserve any better whereas I, who in my teenage years would have accepted anybody and anything into my life because I believed I was less than because I had Cerebral Palsy, have come to understand that people who really want to be in my life will be willing to be pay the price of admission i.e. treat me with dignity and respect and always be honest with me. Do you set high standards for the people and things you let into your life?

If you’ve given to my cause or you can’t give now, please help me by sharing my cause with others. You can tweet about it like my friend Stan Faryna. This is the tweet he uses: @Nisha360 is a brave, smart young woman trying to make a better world for us all. Please help her do an amazing thing. http://bit.ly/hC7vOu

Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.

Thanks to all my friends out there who are helping me make my dream come true: to make a better world for all of us!

Day 310

Each one of you has your own platform. Do not let the trappings here fool you. Mine is a stage in a studio, yours is wherever you are with your own reach, however small or however large that reach is.

Maybe it’s 20 people, maybe it’s 30 people, 40 people, your family, your friends, your neighbors, your classmates, your classroom, your co-workers. Wherever you are, that is your platform, your stage, your circle of influence. That is your talk show, and that is where your power lies.

It’s 8: 36 PM on day 310 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a hotdog for breakfast, watch a few WordPress tutorial videos – I wanted to know what those widgets in my dashboard were for and I have to say I was AMAZED you can create your own chatroom and do all sorts of other stuff…I LOVE WordPress 🙂 –tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch TV, feed myself oranges for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Yesterday I was watching an episode of The Tyra Banks Show which focused on her B.I.O (Beauty Inside and Out) Campaign that aims to expand the definition of beauty for women around the world and it was only as I was watching that I realized how narrow the definition of beauty was so in the spirit of creating a change I am asking you to leave comments on this post telling me what you love about the way you look I LOVE my bone structure it’s different but it’s totally unique to me. Are you using your circle of influence to make this world a better place?

Day 216

You appreciate money more when you earn it – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 10: 39 PM on day 216 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – no luck – feed myself a bread and jam sandwich for dinner and tweet about my campaign some more – still no luck.

Today I woke up to find that someone had made a donation to this blog and told my father that I could pay the electricity bill if he’d let me because although my parents had told me that their money was my money I wasn’t like most people of my generation who were more than happy to live off the fruits of their parents labour so I promised myself that I would contribute to the household expenses as soon as I started making any real money and I guess that is my message to all my peers out there who sleep until noon and sit around playing video games the rest of the day you have to have enough pride in yourself to say mom dad I am grateful for all you’ve done in raising me but I think I’ll take it from here. Have your parents robbed you of your self-esteem by giving you a free ride though this life?
