Day 989: Never be ashamed of the things you do to make a difference

Never be ashamed of the things you do to make a difference – that’s what I learned yesterday 🙂

It’s  4  : 10 PM on day 989 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Deuteronomy 6,  publish my Disability of the Day feature, put on a jacket, stretch my hamstrings, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,  feed myself All Bran Flakes for breakfast, email, tweet and Facebook about my campaign –  still no luck  – and  practice typing with both hands.

Yesterday during a phone call my mom found out that I in not so many words asked a relative of ours to make a donation to my anti-slavery campaign suffice to say she was embarrassed after the call ended she came to me and said more like a question than a statement you sent them an email too to which I answered yes I did none of the money goes to me it’s not like I’m using the money to buy drugs  usually if my parents asked me if I asked someone to donate to one of my campaigns I would lie and say something like they stumbled across the link to my page purely because I didn’t want to get into it with them at that precise moment but yesterday I realized that I should never be ashamed of the things I do to make a difference.    Are you sometimes shamed for doing what you need to do to make a difference?

Day 987: Pushing yourself to the point of discomfort

“The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers.” – M. Scott Peck

It’s  3  : 41 PM on day 987 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,  feed myself All Bran Flakes for breakfast,  pray, read Deuteronomy 4,  publish my Disability of the Day feature, practice typing with both hands and email, tweet and Facebook about my campaign – no luck today but yesterday someone who wishes to remain anonymous made a $50 donation now I just need to raise $813 more to reach my goal 🙂

Today I spent some time emailing people I knew asking them to take a look at my campaign which made me really uncomfortable but the way I look at it there’s no better reason to put yourself in an uncomfortable situation than to help someone else. Do you push yourself to the point of discomfort in the hopes of achieving greatness?

Day 981: Help me end slavery

“The slave-holder’s rule contradicts this fundamental truth of God’s word, that ‘God has made of one blood all the nations of men,’ and if of one blood, they are of equal blood.” – Jonathan Blanchard

It’s 3  : 36 PM on day 981 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, watch the news, pray, read Numbers 34, publish my Disability of the Day feature, tweet and Facebook about my campaign – I hate when I tell people about my campaign and they respond with thank you for sharing you sort of think you’re welcome now aren’t you going to do anything about this travesty most people don’t it’s like they’re looking to everybody but themselves to fix the problems of the world it frustrates me because I know that a group of like-minded people can change the world –     stretch my hamstrings,   practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, feed myself All Bran Flakes for breakfast,  watch 21st Century Sex Slaves Documentary (Human Trafficking) – watch it at the bottom of this post – and practice typing with both hands.

As you may know about a month ago I started my anti-slavery campaign today I’m going to show you through a documentary why I’m so passionate about this particular issue at this particular time.  Watch the documentary and make a donation to help me help women and children trapped in slavery:

Day 966: Rolling with the punches

Roll with the punches – that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s  3  : 04 PM on day 966 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, stretch my hamstrings, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, feed myself All Bran Flakes for breakfast,  publish my Disability of the Day feature,    practice typing with both hands, pray and read Numbers 19.

A couple of days ago I tried to make a donation to my campaign on my mom’s behalf and I received a message that read something along the lines of AVS failure my heart sank and I apologized profusely to my mom thinking that I somehow caused the error but last night someone told me he encountered the same error after making his donation which is why I have decided not to promote my campaign until the technical problem is sorted out God forbid people lose their hard earned money trying to help me out I couldn’t live with that. Do you roll with the punches or whine about how things don’t go your way?

(Update: a staff member of Not For Sale got in touch with me to tell me that she changed the settings on my fundraising page so both U.S and international donors shouldn’t see an AVS error after making a donation please notify me through Facebook, Twitter or email if you see AVS Error after making a donation)

Day 950

If you wish to lead, lead by your actions  – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s  4  : 46 PM on day 950 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Numbers 3, publish my Disability of the Day feature,   practice typing with both hands,  work,  feed myself boiled egg and bread  for brunch, donate to my campaign and tweet and Facebook about my campaign -I am now 6% to my goal 🙂

As you may know I’ve been asking people to make donations to my anti-slavery campaign for the past five days but today I realized I couldn’t ask people to do something I hadn’t done so I put my money where my mouth is and donated $12 and sure enough Niki Chiles (@nbchiles2) followed in my footsteps and made a donation as well (thanks again Niki) people are like kids they don’t do what you say they do what you do hopefully donations will continue to trickle in.  Do you lead by your words or actions?

Day 948

Pride comes before a fall– that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s  3  : 27 PM on day 948 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself All Bran Flakes and an apple for breakfast, pray, read Numbers 1, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, publish my Disability of the Day feature,   practice typing with both hands,  work, take off my dirty t-shirt and put a clean t-shirt on, put a turtleneck on and stretch my hamstrings.

Today I decided to swallow my pride and ask people I knew (and some that I didn’t know) to check out my campaign one of three things will happen either they’ll check out my campaign and make a donation, check out my campaign and not make a donation or ignore my messages completely whatever happens I won’t live wondering if they would have helped me if I asked them to. Do you often fall flat on your face because you’re too prideful to ask for help?

Day 945

You don’t need a special occasion to make a difference– that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s 2 : 17 PM on day 945 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to stretch my hamstrings, brush my teeth,  pray, feed myself All Bran Flakes for breakfast,  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, read Leviticus 25, read Gavin David Leong on Chasing Rainbows – I can’t believe Gavin has died I don’t understand why God does the things he does sometimes  he lets murdered and rapists roam around the free to hurt people and takes an innocent little boy from his family who loved him more than life itself it’s so unfair I’m so sad 🙁 –     publish my Disability of the Day feature,  practice typing with both hands and set up a fundraising page for the Not For Sale Campaign (read the next paragraph for details and help me out if you can).

Last night I realized you don’t need a special occasion to make a difference which is why I have set up a fundraising page for the Not For Sale Campaign, an organization that aims to create a world where no one is for sale by rescuing the victims of human trafficking and empowering them, my goal is to raise $1 000 in 3 months some of you may be tired of me asking you to donate to different causes but I can’t know that there are 30 million slaves in the world today and do nothing about it what kind of person would that make me PLEASE help me help the Not For Sale Campaign end slavery by making a donation here (Note: The fundraising website keeps 79 cents of every donation).

(Update: This campaign has been extended and now ends on October 15, 2013)

(Update 2: The campaign is now over raised $1 050 for the Not For Sale Campaign)

Day 388

Using your talents for good is the best way to thank that which you call God– that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 49 PM on day 388 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself pancakes with sugar and coconut for breakfast,  edit my short stories– see why in the next paragraph– tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck –  prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch TV, go visit people and feed myself yoghurt for dinner.

This morning as I was laying on my bed racking my brain as to how I can raise the rest of the money I need for my campaign Betsy’s comment on one of my previous posts popped into my mind Nisha, have you partnered with anyone to give a portion of the proceeds of the sale of their product or service to your Project? If I make and sell gingerbread houses this year I’ll donate $5 from every house sold. I’ll let you know as soon as I figure out what I can do. Try asking around for similar commitments. I’ll bet you’ll be surprised! Good luck. which is when it occurred to me that I could do the same with Lessons money can’t buy – a book consisting of all the short stories I had written over the course of my teenage years every story is a lesson I’ve learned told through the eyes of different characters – so after much editing I have made it available for purchase in PDF format – click the ‘Buy Now’ PayPal button below to buy yourself a copy and I will email it to you ASAP (Note: Only 50% of every sale goes to my campaign I keep the rest). Are you using your talents for good?

Are we connecting on Twitter? If not, say hi at http://twitter.com/Nisha360
