Day 1856: Parents, Acts of Kindness and Leading by Example

I am who I am because of my parents – that’s what I realized last night.

It’s  12 :  00  PM on day 1856 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Acts 1, publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing –The male and female [flamingo] of a mating pair build a nest together, and both sit on the egg while it incubates for about a month.-  have breakfast and learn more about trading.

Last night I realized that I am who I am because of my parents earlier in the day a woman showed up literally on your doorstep saying she was struggling to feed her family and while most people would have turned her away my parents (God bless them) did what they could to help her I am still touched by their small yet big act of kindness. Thanks mommy and daddy for teaching me kindness throughout my life I am who I am largely because of the two of you.

Day 958

Kids do what you do – that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s  1  : 42 PM on day 958 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Numbers 11, publish my Disability of the Day feature, publish my  Kid of the Week feature, go to church – I liked the sermon the reverend talked about how we sometimes hinder God by being so set in our ways –    feed myself Bran Flakes for breakfast, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, practice typing with both hands and make sandwiches as part of Virginia’s Sandwich Run with our housekeeper’s help.

Today my brother walked into the dining room just as our housekeeper and I were about done making sandwiches and said without any prompting from anybody I want to do one I was so proud I felt like I was teaching him to serve others through my actions. Do you try and teach the kids in your life through your words or your actions?

Day 950

If you wish to lead, lead by your actions  – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s  4  : 46 PM on day 950 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Numbers 3, publish my Disability of the Day feature,   practice typing with both hands,  work,  feed myself boiled egg and bread  for brunch, donate to my campaign and tweet and Facebook about my campaign -I am now 6% to my goal 🙂

As you may know I’ve been asking people to make donations to my anti-slavery campaign for the past five days but today I realized I couldn’t ask people to do something I hadn’t done so I put my money where my mouth is and donated $12 and sure enough Niki Chiles (@nbchiles2) followed in my footsteps and made a donation as well (thanks again Niki) people are like kids they don’t do what you say they do what you do hopefully donations will continue to trickle in.  Do you lead by your words or actions?

Day 771

Example is leadership. ~ Albert Schweitzer

It’s 2 : 08 PM on day 771 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to stretch my hamstrings, brush my teeth, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, practice typing with both hands, feed myself an avocado sandwich and an apple for breakfast,  publish my Disability of the Day feature, work, listen to music  and watch TV.

As you may know I’ve been trying to get people to be a little kinder to each other through my Chain of Good movement sadly the response has been underwhelming so I’m trying a different approach I’m going to be extra kind to people every day and hopefully others will be inspired to follow my example. Are you leading by example?

Day 379

The lessons I’ve learned in the philanthropic arena have permeated my entire life – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 6: 54 PM on day 379 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, practice writing by hand, play with my brother outside–it was sport’s day at his school and my parents excused him –   feed myself a peanut buter sandwich and boiled egg for breakfast, watch TV, feed myself beef stir fry for lunch, prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature and  tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck –

As you may or may not know my brother’s weight has been a huge concern for me – he’s 16 kg’s overweight according to his doctor – and although I have told him on previous occasions to go outside and exercise today I realized that me singling him out was probably making things worse so I decided to lead by example and go outside with him why am I telling you this I figured out recently while raising money for my campaign that people will do what you do faster than they will do what you say and I thought it would be a great lesson to share. Have the lessons you’ve learned doing what you love spilled over into your personal life?

Are we connecting on Twitter? If not, say hi at http://twitter.com/Nisha360
