Day 929

You can change the world just by being yourself– that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s 5  : 14 PM on day 929 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  take off my dirty t-shirt, brush my teeth, try to clean myself in the bathroom,  put a clean t-shirt on, feed myself Chapati and baked beans for breakfast,   pray, read Leviticus 9, go visit people, feed myself baked bean roll for lunch and  publish my Disability of the Day feature.

A couple of weeks ago we hired a new housekeeper for the weekend and today she came in while I was changing, said it was cold and that I was taking too long and proceeded to help me get dressed I had to explain to her that even though it would take me a while to do things I would eventually do them I said I’m not like other people what takes you two minutes to do takes me two hours to do to which she said as if she suddenly realized how fortunate she was like putting on a t-shirt  it’s cool that just being around me makes people more grateful.  Has someone changed your world just by being themselves?

I LOVE hearing from you feel free to leave a comment below.

Day 385

Two or more ‘ordinary people’ together can do just as much as a famous person can – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 13 PM on day 385 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself strawberry yoghurt for breakfast, prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature,  tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck –  tweet about my campaign some more–still no luck– watch TV, feed myself two slices of pizza for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Yesterday I was emailing someone about my campaign and I realized that I didn’t need celebrity backing to make a success of it –I have tweeted Oprah, Justin Bieber, Priyanka Chopra and Jodi Picoult over the course of my campaign (Jodi offered to donate some books but unfortunately I promised my parents that I would never give out our home address to people over the internet I really like her we still keep in touch) – because everyone who hears my story is likely to tell one another person and that person will tell one another person and so on and so on it will go my point is sometimes we underestimate our own power and think only famous people can change the world when in reality anyone who bands together with others who have good intentions can change the world. Do you shirk off your social responsibilities just because you’re not a celebrity?

Day 381

Saying wouldn’t it be great if things were different doesn’t change anything – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 18 PM on day 381 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, practice writing by hand– I think I can safely cross that off my list I can now sign name I’m SO HAPPY 🙂 –   feed myself a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast, watch TV, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, publish my Disability of the Day feature,   tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – Kay someone with whom I share a very special boy, Brennan, and Jorge –Chrissy’s friend – made a donation in honour of Chrissy’s birthday – she asked all her Facebook friends to do so  –thanks Kay and happy birthday Chrissy wishing you nothing but love and happiness all the days of your life 🙂 – and feed myself oranges for dinner.

Today as I was opening the gate – it’s electric so even I can do it – for our housekeeper to get in I thought wouldn’t it be great if every door, window and gate worked by remote and if every building – regardless of whether it is owned by government or ordinary people – with more than one floor had a lift – elevator – which is when it occurred to me that I could probably ensure that every new apartment building had a lift it in it by contacting the powers that be and sharing my experiences with them – I remember this one time where my parents had to leave me in the car to go see their friends’ new apartment – it was on the top floor – I understood that there was no way they could carry me up there but that didn’t make me any less sad lucky for me I made a pact with myself a year prior when we were on a family vacation that I would never again cry over not being able to go to certain places – our extended family was with us and all of them wanted to go to a particular cave – I forgot the name of it – only you had to crawl through things to get inside which meant I was left behind with my father and the driver I cried the entire time the others were inside – I told my father I had something in my eyes – but after a while I came to accept that they were places I would never be able to go to and things I would never be able to do with that I promised myself that I would never again cry over not being able to go somewhere – so that’s exactly what I’m going to do. Do you sit around and whine about all that’s wrong with the world or wake up every day and try to move it in the right direction?

Day 316

What is the most resilient parasite? Bacteria? A virus? An intestinal worm? An idea. Resilient… highly contagious. Once an idea has taken hold of the brain it’s almost impossible to eradicate. An idea that is fully formed – fully understood – that sticks; right in there somewhere. – Cobb (played by Leonardo Dicaprio in the movie Inception).

It’s 8: 09 PM on day 316 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, do research on YouTube Direct – a platform that allows bloggers to have user-generated content directly onto their blogs (see why below) – tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, brush my teeth once more and watch TV – I feel somewhat under the weather I think I’m going to call it an early night.

Last night I was watching the evening news when Make every day a Mandela Day – the slogan of the Mandela Day initiative – appeared on the screen and in that moment a light bulb came on in my head and I decided that I would create a page on this blog called Every Day Hero where ordinary people like you can upload a video of yourself or someone else doing something that gives back to your town, your country or even the world with the intention of inspiring others to do the same. Do you believe that a single idea can give rise to a new world?

Day 305

You are responsible for the energy that you create for yourself and you’re responsible for the energy that you bring to others. – Oprah Winfrey

It’s 7: 55 PM on day 305 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a banana for breakfast, watch TV, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – I decided not to spent too much time tweeting today because my brother was complaining that I was being selfish with the laptop I tried to explain to him that I was trying to change the world but he’s ten I doubt he cared LOL 🙂 – spend some time with my family and brush my teeth once more.

Yesterday on the last episode of her show Oprah said all life is energy and for the life of me I didn’t know she meant until this morning when I woke up and realized that the feeling you give to someone even before you say a word or vice-versa was energy which explained why I felt (and still feel) drained when I’m with my father, sorrowful when my I’m with my mother and resentful when I’m with my siblings. Is the energy you create for yourself and bring to others consistent with the vision you have for your life?

Day 295

Each one of us can change the world differently – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 10: 24 PM on day 295 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  feed myself Batura and chicken curry for breakfast, read Blog posts that make feel amazing by Stan (@faryna)– a blog post about why he blogs – I was skeptical about the topic at first but Stan made it work 🙂 –   feed myself rice and curry for lunch,  tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – thanks to Stan (@faryna) and Pioneer Outfitters for their generous donations – if you live in the U.S and need a break from fast-paced life Pioneer Outfitters is the place to go complete with horseback riding, hunting and fishing trips a great time is guaranteed for all (Note: Pioneer Outfitters didn’t ask me to say all this) – had dinner at my uncle’s house – I never felt like I missed out on having a big brother because all my cousins would beat up anyone who even tried to mess with me… it’s SO much fun having a huge family 🙂 – and brush my teeth once more.

Yesterday I was feeling like nothing I did mattered as if on cue a few minutes later Tana Lopez (@woveneye3) – someone I didn’t even know – sent me a tweet which read Reading this changed my whole day, my whole week, and perhaps even more. Wow, talk about inspirational!! http://t.co/66UNO5u @Nisha360 and to her and everyone else I’ve inspired I say although I am deeply touched by your words the best way that you can pay me back is by paying it forward. Are you changing the world in your own way or sitting on the sidelines waiting on the world to change?
