Day 370

I am the link between the people who don’t have water and the people who have resources to give it to them which means I have put myself in situations that I find extremely uncomfortable –that’s what I learned today.

It’s 8:  15 PM on day 370 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck –  feed myself salad for brunch, practice writing my hand,  go visit my grandma at my uncle’s house–I miss the person my grandma used to be she doesn’t even talk to anybody anymore 🙁 – brush my teeth once more and  feed myself McDonald’s chicken nuggets  for dinner.

Yesterday at Onam – our community’s annual event – I got a mention in the achievements section of the event – every year our community mentions the accolades of the youth in our community – in the category of social outreach and suddenly all eyes were on me I really HATED it because I didn’t start this campaign and tell my community about it to make myself look good I told them because I thought that if they knew what I was doing they would make donations I was wrong DEAD WRONG lots of people came up to me and said I am proud of you but NONE of the almost two-hundred people who were there opened their wallets and put their money where their months were which simultaneously pissed me off and made me more appreciative of people like Wayne, Stan, Laura, Bonnie, Galen, Rachel and Betsy who together have donated hundreds of dollars to my campaign in spite of the fact that they have never laid eyes on me. Would you be willing to put yourself in situations that you found extremely uncomfortable if it meant helping others?

Are we connecting on Twitter? If not, say hi at http://twitter.com/Nisha360

If you’ve given to my cause or you can’t give now, please help me by sharing my cause with others. You can tweet about it like my friend Stan Faryna. This is the tweet he uses: @Nisha360 is a brave, smart young woman trying to make a better world for us all. Please help her do an amazing thing. http://bit.ly/hC7vOu

Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.

Thanks to all my friends out there who are helping me make my dream come true: to make a better world for all of us!

Day 301

Sometimes you have to put yourself out there even at your own risk – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 45 PM on day 301 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, watch TV, feed myself bananas for breakfast, submit my story to our community’s website – my parents are going to murder me (see why below) – watch TV, feed myself rice and curry lunch, join Linkedin, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck –watch some more TV, feed myself Spaghetti bolognaise for dinner – I made a big mess since I’m only recently getting used to this fork and knife thing but hey what is life without a mess 🙂 – and brush my teeth once.

As you know I believe that if what you’re doing isn’t working you should do something different which is why although I knew that my family wouldn’t be pleased – they think asking for donations is equivalent to begging – I emailed our community’s website and asked them to feature my story. Are you willing to put yourself out there as long as you are not in the line of fire?
