Technology can play a huge role in me gaining my independence – that’s what I realized today.
It’s 1 : 02 PM on day 1178 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth, read 1 Chronicles 11, feed myself boiled egg and All Bran Flakes for breakfast, publish my Disability of the Day feature, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, listen to music – I love Cassadee Pope that girl can sing – stretch my hamstrings and hang out with my family.
This morning my mom had to drop my brother at school and my sister was sleeping so I used the remote to open the gate for our housekeeper which got me thinking about the role that technology could play in me gaining my independence currently the gate is the only thing in the house that you can open and shut with a remote but I did some research and found out that there are systems you can install which would allow you to open and shut doors and windows with a remote heck there’s even a driverless car which will be out in the U.S in 2015 so it looks like I will be more independent than I thought I could be thanks to modern-day technology.
Cut your parents some slack– that’s what I learned today 🙂
It’s 4 : 59 PM on day 884 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, feed myself Bran Flakes for breakfast, read Exodus 4, publish my Disability of the Day feature, practice typing with both hands, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, take off my dirty t-shirt and put a clean t-shirt on, stretch my hamstrings, feed myself rice and curry for lunch and watch TV.
Today reading No More Tears – a blog post about the sadness and hopes of a special needs father – I wondered if my parents dream of me walking and realized I was too hard on them it must be so hard for them to see me struggle with things that come easily to them and know that they can’t do anything to change it. Are you too harsh on your parents?

My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day’s a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less travelled by
That first step you take is the longest stride
If today was your last day And tomorrow was too late Could you say goodbye to yesterday? Would you live each moment like your last? Leave old pictures in the past Donate every dime you have? If today was your last day
Against the grain should be a way of life What’s worth the prize is always worth the fight Every second counts ’cause there’s no second try So live like you’ll never live it twice Don’t take the free ride in your own life
If today was your last day And tomorrow was too late Could you say goodbye to yesterday? Would you live each moment like your last? Leave old pictures in the past Donate every dime you have? Would you call old friends you never see? Reminisce old memories Would you forgive your enemies? Would you find that one you’re dreamin’ of? Swear up and down to God above That you finally fall in love If today was your last day
If today was your last day Would you make your mark by mending a broken heart? You know it’s never too late to shoot for the stars Regardless of who you are So do whatever it takes ‘Cause you can’t rewind a moment in this life Let nothin’ stand in your way Cause the hands of time are never on your side

Be proud of all the things you can do– that’s what I keep learning 🙂
It’s 5 : 31 PM on day 882 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, try to clean myself in the bathroom, publish my Disability of the Day feature, practice typing with both hands, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, stretch my hamstrings, feed myself a salad roll for brunch, watch TV, feed myself rice and curry for dinner and brush my teeth once more.
Today I realized that I should be proud of all the things I can do a couple of years ago I couldn’t eat by myself or drink by myself now I can do that and so much more funny thing is I don’t think I appreciate being able to do those things as much as I used to because it has become so easy for me which is part of the human condition I guess, we don’t appreciate the things that come easily to us. Do you take time out to pat yourself on the back for all the things you’ve accomplished?

Being Christian, if you take it seriously, is no joke – that’s what I learned today 🙂
It’s 4 : 12 PM on day 881 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, put on a new t-shirt, pray, read Exodus 1, go to church – the kids from Sunday School came to visit us it was too precious for words lots of singing and dancing I strive to live life with child-like faith children believe in God just because – feed myself Chapati and potato curry for breakfast, drink coffee by myself, publish my Disability of the Day feature, publish my Kid of the Week feature, practice typing with both hands and practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles.
This morning was drab and dreary and I really didn’t feel like going to church but I got up and went anyway I figured it was the least I could do for all God has done for me when I was younger I only used to pray and read The Bible when my life was going badly but now I realize that being Christian is reading The Bible when you’d rather be doing something else, praying even when you feel like God has gone on vacation, turning the other cheek when you’d rather punch someone out… being Christian is a commitment you make to put God first every moment of your life regardless of whether your life is going well or not. Do you take your faith seriously?

The purpose of life is to leave the Earth better than it was when we got here – that’s what I keep learning 🙂
It’s 4 : 34 PM on day 880 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, stretch my hamstrings, feed myself Chapati, a boiled egg and All Bran Flakes for breakfast, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature, practice typing with both hands, pray, read Genesis 50 and feed myself rice and curry for lunch.
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the purpose of life some people (I’m not judging just making an observation) only seem to care about themselves and the people they love while others go the extra mile to make a difference I strive to be in the second group because I believe the purpose of life is to leave the Earth better than it was when we got here. Have you discovered the purpose of life?

Today after watching John W. Quinn’s vlog, Top 10 Things Not To Do/Say To Someone With Cerebral Palsy, I realized we as “disabled” people are oversensitive to everything that is said and done to us people could be staring at me because I’m in a wheelchair or they could be staring at me because I’m so pretty (LOL) how I am supposed to know I, for one, am going to make an effort to stop thinking that everything that is said and done to me is said and done to me because I’m in a wheelchair. Are you too harsh on people?
