You should be yourself at any cost – that’s what I learned today 🙂
It’s 7: 17 PM on day 265 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself Oats for breakfast, publish my Kid of the Week feature, open a packet of chips –three days in a row – I am SO happy 🙂 – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign –no luck but on the plus side Bonnie (@bonnie67) did write about my campaign in her latest blog post – thanks Bonnie 🙂 – feed myself chocolate muffins for dinner and brush my teeth once more.
Yesterday lying on my bed waiting to fall asleep I remembered something my mother had said to me moments earlier aunty L (that’s what we’re going to call her for the purpose of this blog) said she only wanted to talk to you and not us and I was just wondering if that was because she read the stuff you wrote on your blog to which I gave no response and she continued please don’t write about the fights that go on in this house… it’s embarrassing and you know what I have to say to that life is not a fairytale and although you can make me a virtual prisoner in my own home you cannot make me edit myself just to make you look good. Are you willing to change yourself at the drop of a hat just because other people don’t like what you say or do?
Are we connecting on Twitter? If not, say hi at http://twitter.com/Nisha360
if you’ve given to my cause or you can’t give now, please help me by sharing my cause with others. You can tweet about it like my friend Stan Faryna. This is the tweet he uses: @Nisha360 is a brave, smart young woman trying to make a better world for us all. Please help her do an amazing thing. http://bit.ly/hC7vOu
Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.
Thanks to all my friends out there who are helping me make my dream come true: to make a better world for all of us!
Emily is a wonderful Kid of the Week. A few weeks ago I discovered a young woman starting with J who is doing pillowcases for her local hospital. The hospital is a great centre and community: really, a microcosm. (actually it was last week: an example of the way the Web can compress time!)
Here are the Sleeping Buddies!
No, I don’t think change should be based on preference alone; especially another person’s preference.
My first reaction to the potential conversation with your aunt: I was happy that she would see you with a voice and validity, but I was concerned that she might use it as a wedge. Or that a third person could do this.
Here is a great link about fairytales: from Ann (CapriUni).
If you (or your mother) thought that disability and other adversities could never be in fairytales, here’s your revelation!
Plato’s Nightmare and Aesop’s Dream
Reading about Albertina was great, especially on World Environment Day.
I did say a long time ago, “I will not deny myself for the sake of peace”. And what I meant by “peace” very often was freedom from imbalance and unrest in the immediate situation.
Hi Nisha
It was my pleasure Nisha. I think what your
doing is great. I can so relate journey because
at at one time i couldn’t walk for 5 years. Had
a operations and got what i needed fixed on my
knee. Now I can walk. Thanks for mentioning me
in your post and I’ll keep posting about you.
Hugs Bonnie
I forgot to put this don’t let any one try to
change you or what you put in your blog.
It is beat to tell the truth than hide it. If your
aunt doesn’t like it she doesn’t have to read
your blog or my be nicer not sure what went on
so i really can’t comment on it. But I would think your
Aunt should be the one to change.
I will take a look at Sleeping Buddies and as for “aunty L,” who is not really my aunty but merely a community member that I call aunty out of respect for age, I am sure my mother was just assuming that she didn’t want to talk to her because she read my blog.
Yours truly,
Nisha
So glad you can walk now and thank you in advance for all your future postings …. I REALLY appreciate it 🙂
Yours truly,
Nisha
Short version: my mom ran into “aunty L” – a community member of ours – two days ago who said that she didn’t want to talk to either of my parents only to me and now my mother thinks it’s because she might have stumbled onto this blog and read what I wrote hope that clarifies things for you 🙂
Yours truly,
Nisha
Thank you, Nisha, for the clarification that “aunty L” is a community member.
Yes, it probably was an assumption!
(Sometimes we do call non-family members “aunty”, but it’s more of a fictive kin connection: that is, it might be a parent’s friend).
I still hope the dialogue goes well.
Glad you might look at Sleeping Buddies.
You’re welcome and thank you 🙂
Yours truly,
Nisha
I’m looking forward to hearing about the conversation with aunty L.
Perhaps, aunty L has an interesting opportunity for you in her mind – an opportunity that she doesn’t think your parents may want you to consider. I’m hopeful.
In my opinion, anyone who stumbles upon your blog will find inspiration here.
No, I think she just wants to congratulate me on my campaign but thank you for the compliment 🙂
Yours truly,
Nisha
