Day 296

You teach people how to treat you. – Dr. Phil C. McGraw

It’s 10: 23 PM on day 296 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  feed myself toast, mutton sausage and fried tomatoes for breakfast, watch TV, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, do some research on Dementia – it breaks my heart to see my granny becoming less and less of herself and unfortunately it seems that all I can do is sit back and watch because the treatment options for Dementia are very limited 🙁 – read two of the most recent post on Love That Max and Top 9 why you should blog on The Nicky Blog  – all the blog posts I read were very good but since I’d never read Nicky’s blog before naturally I was more excited to read that and the fact that I could attest to the 9 reasons why you should blog made it all the better 🙂 – tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – yesterday evening Tana (@woveneye3) made a PayPal donation which I will donate to my campaign on her behalf ASAP and Bonnie (@bonnie67) made two more donations – you guys are AWESOME thank you SO much for your support 🙂 – play host to my extended family who came over for dinner – my aunt almost ended up in tears when my father said grandma didn’t remember the names of her girl children because they didn’t take of her my father didn’t mean anything by it but I saw my aunt’s face when he said that and she was REALLY hurt 🙁 – and brush my teeth once more.

Last night after we came back from dinner at my uncle’s a community member of ours – let’s call him M – called and said he would be coming to our house in ten minutes to borrow our GPS and immediately my dad said with urgency to no one in particular M is coming take Nisha to the other room and in that moment instead of feel less than and going to my room like I usually did I said rather nonchalantly what’s wrong if I’m here to which he responded oh no nothing I just thought you wanted to pee which I did not believe for a second but for the sake of keeping the peace I let it go and asked my mother to help me in the bathroom. Have you taught people to treat you badly?

Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.

Thanks to all my friends out there who are helping me make my dream come true: to make a better world for all of us!

Day 290

You should mourn the life you will never have – that’s what I learned today.

It’s 9: 08 PM on day 290 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself an egg sandwich for breakfast tweet about my Clean Water For All CampaignBonnie (@Bonnie67) made another donation – thanks Bonnie 🙂 – tweet about my campaign some more – no further luck 🙁 – watch TV, feed myself custard for lunch, read 10 Reasons My Son’s Cerebral Palsy Is Awesome – a guest post on Love That Max written by Shasta over at Outrageous Fortune – it was a refreshing blog post in that she took everything bad about her son’s Cerebral Palsy and made it good 🙂 – feed myself rice and curry for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

This morning my mother asked my father if my sister didn’t need to apply for her license and that just drove me to tears not because I was jealous of my sister getting her license but because I was sad that I would never get mine and since I didn’t want my sister to feel guilty for being able-bodied when she woke up and asked me why I was crying I blamed it on PMS and held back the rest of my tears until I was alone in the bathroom. Is the life you could have had an elephant in the room or simply a dream that you’ve let go of?

Day 287

If you judge people, you have no time to love them. ~ Mother Teresa

It’s 7: 32 PM on day 287 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself Chapati and beef curry for breakfast, listen to music, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, exercise for fifteen minutes while watching TV, brush my teeth once more –a guest was arriving and I didn’t want to occupy the bathroom while he was here – start preparing My Book Shelf – a page on this blog which consists of all the books I remember reading over the course of my twenty year life – and tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – I woke up to find that Bonnie (@bonnie67) made a donation – seven kids most of who have disabilities and she still managed to find the money to make a donation I’ll never get over it – thank you SO much Bonnie 🙂

Yesterday we had some company over at our house and quite unusually I wasn’t lost in thought thinking she probably feels sorry for me while she was talking to me and as a result before she left she handed me R50 and told me to make more sandwiches on her behalf – I had mentioned that I was making sandwiches for our housekeeper’s neighborhood during our conversation – which surprised me considering I didn’t even ask for a donation. Is your inability to connect with people solely due to the fact that you’re constantly judging them?

Day 267

If you can get paid for doing what you love, every paycheck is a bonus. – Oprah Winfrey

It’s 7: 00 PM on day 267 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a polony sandwich for breakfast watch TV, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign –no luck I have to try something different prayer, sponsorship etc because it’s obvious that social media won’t carry me to the finish line :(– feed myself pasta and sauce for dinner, watch some more TV and brush my teeth once more.

Yesterday Bonnie (@Bonnie67) sent me a Facebook message which said in part I hope you don’t take this the wrong way but when I read your blogs they make me smile and laugh. Reason being is because of my right arm being fracture twice and the bone thinning plus arthritis in it and it shakes all the time. I have trouble opening things and our kids want to do it open whatever I’m trying to open. I look at them and say I’m not helpless. Just knowing I’m not the only one going through things like this makes it so much easier to cope. Because others don’t understand what you’re going through. and when I read that I couldn’t help feeling as though I had succeeded in my life because although I REALLY appreciate the money I make from this blog the reason I started blogging in the first place was to share my life and make people feel less alone. Is your paycheck a bonus or the only reason you show up for work in the morning?

Day 265

You should be yourself at any cost – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 17 PM on day 265 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself Oats for breakfast, publish my Kid of the Week feature, open a packet of chips –three days in a row – I am SO happy 🙂 – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign –no luck but on the plus side Bonnie (@bonnie67) did write about my campaign in her latest blog post – thanks Bonnie 🙂 – feed myself chocolate muffins for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Yesterday lying on my bed waiting to fall asleep I remembered something my mother had said to me moments earlier aunty L (that’s what we’re going to call her for the purpose of this blog) said she only wanted to talk to you and not us and I was just wondering if that was because she read the stuff you wrote on your blog to which I gave no response and she continued please don’t write about the fights that go on in this house… it’s embarrassing and you know what I have to say to that life is not a fairytale and although you can make me a virtual prisoner in my own home you cannot make me edit myself just to make you look good. Are you willing to change yourself at the drop of a hat just because other people don’t like what you say or do?
