Youth Day 2020 and Me

“We know better and thus MUST DO BETTER, BE BETTER, DEMAND BETTER, BRING SOLUTIONS AND BE FEARLESS IN THE PURSUIT OF EQUALITY & JUSTICE!!! We have both an individual and collective responsibility to fight against inequality and injustice and to break down systemic inequality, femicide, GBV, racism and the many other ills we face in 2020, we need to build a new, conscious of where we have come from, understanding the pain and struggle of the past but the reality of where we are focussed on fighting for a future for all!!!!” –  Catherine Constantinides

Today is Youth Day here in South Africa – a day that honours the youth of 1976 who fought against the introduction of Afrikaans as the medium of instruction in local schools – and I reflect on the kind of South African I need to be to create the South Africa of our dream. Thanks to the youth of 1976 for their sacrifice – I will honour all of you by living in service of South Africa and the world.

Day 2833: Youth Day 2018 #YouthDay

“Each one of us can make a difference. Together we make change.” – Barbara Mikulski

It’s 10 : 07 AM on day 2833 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read a Bible verse, have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – A HUGE thanks to  Stan Faryna, author of Francesco Augustine Bernadone   who donated $50  yesterday and Sharon D Agostino  (Founder of  SayItForward) donated $500   which brings the total raised to  $15 219  only $3 531 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot.

Today being Youth Day here in South Africa – a day that honours the youth of 1976 who fought against the introduction of Afrikaans as the medium of instruction in local schools – with every year that passes this day grows in significance for me. Thanks to the youth of 1976 for their sacrifice.

Day 2467: “June 16 Youth Day Drawing Tribute (Time-Lapse)“ by Michael Cost

“Our youth are the crucial stakeholders as we address our challenges and work towards building our future with a shared vision.”  – Catherine Constantinides

It’s 9 : 58 AM on day 2466 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, have breakfast, read Proverbs 3:9 and learn a new word – Definitions for expostulate
to reason earnestly with someone against something that person intends to do or has done; remonstrate: His father expostulated with him about the evils of gambling.

Today is Youth Day here in South Africa – a day that honours the youth of 1976 who fought against the introduction of Afrikaans as the medium of instruction in local schools – and in honour of that I’m sharing a video made by Michael Cost to pay tribute to all the young people who fought and died for many in South Africa. Watch “June 16 Youth Day Drawing Tribute (Time-Lapse)“ by Michael Cost below:

Day 2102: Youth Day 2016

See the problems and become the solutions – that’s my message to the youth.

It’s 1 : 56  PM on day 2102 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Psalm 68: 3, have breakfast, learn one new thing – Venus: yellowish-white; we can only see the thick layer of colorless and featureless sulfuric acid clouds. You can find more detailed info on Venus here. Earth: light blue with white clouds; oceans and light scattered by the atmosphere make Earth prevailingly blue. –  and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    – raised $5 910 only $340 more to raise before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far 🙂 ).

Today being Youth Day here in South Africa – a day that honours the youth of 1976 who fought against the introduction of Afrikaans as the medium of instruction in local schools – I’ve been thinking about my responsibility as a youth and I’ve realized that my responsibility is to see problems and become the solutions. Happy Youth Day South Africa.

Day 1737: Youth Day 2015

“It is not possible for civilization to flow backwards while there is youth in the world. Youth may be headstrong, but it will advance it allotted length.” – Helen Keller

It’s 12 : 48  PM on day 1737 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Micah 5, publish my Disability of the Day feature,   feed myself oat and banana pancakes for breakfast, learn one new thing – Garish [gar·ish] adj. 1. Marked by strident color or excessive ornamentation; gaudy. 2. Loud and flashy. “Garish makeup.” –  and entertain visitors.

Today is Youth Day here in South Africa – a day that honours the youth of 1976 who fought against the introduction of Afrikaans as the medium of instruction in local schools – thinking about the youth of 1976 I am inspired to lead and to me to lead means to see problems and take steps to fix them.

Day 642

We must remember those who came before us and emulate them so that one day we may be remembered– that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s 5: 48 PM on day 642 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself bread and baked and beans for breakfast, drink tea by myself, publish my Disability of the Day feature, work and feed myself Greek yogurt mixed with bananas for lunch.

Today being Youth Day – a national holiday in honour of all the young people who lost their lives in the struggle against Apartheid and Bantu Education – in South Africa  I’ve been thinking about what I can do to keep the legacy of the youth of 1976 alive I’ve concluded that the only thing I can do is be myself and stand for what I believe in.  What are you doing now to ensure that you will be remembered in the future?

I LOVE hearing from you feel free to leave a comment below.

Day 276

Blessed is he who lives in the present but never forgets the past – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 38 PM on day 276 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself brown bread and baked beans for breakfast, hang out with a mutual friend of mine and my sister’s, feed myself barbequed chicken, potato salad and green salad for lunch,  watch the Adjustment Bureau at the  Hemingways Mall – it was a sci -fi-romance about love and fighting for freedom of choice I would give it 5/10 – watch TV,  feed myself barbequed chicken, potato salad and baked beans for dinner, brush my teeth once more and tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – still no luck 🙁 –

On this day thirty-five years ago a group of South African youths took to the streets in protest of the introduction of Afrikaans as the medium of instruction in local schools and in honour of that I would like to share with you some footage of that day which is now an annual public holiday that we call Youth Day. Take a look:
