Day 1468: My thoughts on the Kelli Stapleton attempted murder-suicide

Nobody has the right to take someone else’s life – that’s my message to overwhelmed special needs parents.

It’s 12 : 58 PM on day 1468 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Proverbs 6, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  feed myself  Puttu – a breakfast dish of steamed cylinders of ground rice layered with coconut – and a banana  for breakfast and do crossword puzzles.

Yesterday I heard the story of Kelli Stapleton – a woman who attempted to kill herself and her severely Autistic daughter because she couldn’t take being abused by her daughter – I understand that Kelli felt overwhelmed and hopeless but that is no reason to commit a murder-suicide I’m sure that, at times, my parents are overwhelmed by the task of caring for me but I know that they would never try to kill me my life may be more challenging but it has just as much value as anybody else’s. If you’re a parent and you’re feeling overwhelmed and hopeless call someone please don’t harm yourself or your child you ALWAYS have a choice.
