Day 1795: How to get people to listen to you

If you don’t talk to people about things that don’t matter they aren’t likely to listen to you when you talk about things that do matter– that’s what I realized yesterday.

It’s 12 : 40 PM on day 1795  of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  pray, read Matthew 27,    publish my Disability of the Day feature,    learn one new thing –Impugn [im·pugn] tr.v. To attack as false or questionable; challenge in argument: “To impugn a political opponent’s record.”– have breakfast and  promote my Educate Generations campaign – Tim Fargo, author of Alphabet Success – Keeping it Simple. My Secrets to Success and founder of TweetJukebox , donated $1 000 (yes, you read right) yesterday (thank you SO MUCH Tim you’re AWESOME you should have seen me yesterday I was in utter disbelief that someone could be so generous thanks again Tim your support really does mean the absolute world to me  :) ) which brings my total raised to $4 541 with 51 days still to go till the end of the campaign (SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has helped out so far 🙂  ).

Yesterday I realized that both offline and online if you don’t talk to people about things that don’t matter they aren’t likely to listen to you when you talk about things that do matter so if you want people to listen to you create an open channel of communication.

Day 236

It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity. – Albert Einstein

It’s 7: 19 PM on day 236 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a banana for breakfast, prepare my Kid of the Week feature for tomorrow only stopping to feed myself Chapati and chicken curry for lunch, go visit my aunt and uncle at my cousin’s house – God I love my family… shortly after we arrived my aunt disappeared and when she returned we asked her where she had been it turns out she was turning my father’s car upside down looking for the gold chain I’d lost while on vacation isn’t that the sweetest thing you’ve ever heard 🙂 – and feed myself Chapati and chicken curry for dinner.

Today my sister and were sitting in the same room and I said annoyed by her incessant texting it is a general rule that when someone is in the room with you that you should be talking to them and not be looking down at your phone and my sister being the smart-alack that she is responded by saying something along the lines of there’s a simple solution for that I’ll just switch the TV on for you that way both of us will be staring at something and in that moment I realized that technology was tearing us apart rather than bringing us together. Is technology stripping us of our ability to communicate effectively?

Are we connecting on Twitter? If not, say hi at http://www.twitter.com/nisha360

if you’ve given to my cause or you can’t give now, please help me by sharing my cause with others. You can tweet about it like my friend Stan Faryna. This is the tweet he uses: @Nisha360 is a brave, smart young woman trying to make a better world for us all. Please help her do an amazing thing. http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/nisha-varghese/nishavarghese

Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.

Thanks to all my friends out there who are helping me make my dream come true: to make a better world for all of us!

Day 147

To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.  – Tony Robbins

It’s 10: 01 PM on day 147 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a bread and lattice sandwich – my mother had originally put something made of chicken in it luckily for me I remembered my meat-free Mondays resolution before I took a single bite – for breakfast while watching TV, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – today I woke up to find that the person who had promised to make a donation the previous day had in fact done so  – I was REALLY surprised not because I thought he wasn’t a man of his word but because I hadn’t met prior to him telling me that he would make a donation – nice to know that there are people out there who give for the sake of giving 🙂 – feed myself rice and curry vegetarian-style – it taste quite as bad as I thought it would 🙂 – and  exercise for 10 minutes.

As you may or may not know I am not big on getting or giving material possessions – there’s just something about going to a store and buying a gift-wrapped present that seems so impersonal to me – and because of that every time I saw a guy giving a girl a present on TV or in a movie I thought to myself why don’t you write her a letter or something and looking back on it now I realize that not everybody will express their feelings exactly the way I do with that said if you’re planning to buy your significant other diamonds this Valentine’s Day I urge to visit Charity Diamonds – 50% of the profits are donated to charity (Note: estimated shipping time is 2-4 days). Is your inability to communicate effectively causing you to judge other people harshly?
