Day 1844: John 9 and Disability

As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.

– John 9: 1- 4

It’s 1 :  44 PM on day 1844  of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  pray, read John 10,    publish my Disability of the Day feature,  hang with  Pamela Eapen,  have breakfast, promote my Educate Generations campaign –  Ancy donated $20 yesterday (thanks SO MUCH Anc I can’t believe we are the same kids who used to spend holidays together and talk at all hours of the night you are a blessing to the nursing profession 🙂 ) which brings my total raised to $5 177 with under 24 hours to go [I really hope to get to $5 250 before the end of today please God help]  – and  learn one new thing – The African buffalo differs from the domesticated water buffalo found in other parts of the world, although they both superficially resemble one another.

Yesterday I read John 9: 3 and I found it to be so true for my own life I am not the way I am because my parents did anything wrong I am the way I am because that’s the way things had to be for God to be able to work through me.

Day 1478: 7 Life Lessons I Learned from the Bible

There are so many life lessons to be learned from the Bible – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 1 : 10 PM on day 1478 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth, read Proverbs 15, publish my Disability of the Day feature, stretch my hamstrings, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, feed myself All Bran Flakes with banana  for breakfast, work on my upcoming campaign – I am trying to think of crowd-funding ideas that will not do any lasting damage to my health so far I’ve got starve myself (kids don’t try that), go without water (don’t try that either) or go bald if you guys have any other ideas please share them in the comments section below because I’m honestly stumped.

As you may know I read the Bible every day it has taught me so many life lessons some of which I took the liberty of writing down. Take a look:

7 Life Lessons I Learned from the Bible

  1. Take the high road – “Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.” (Romans 12: 14) (Note: I haven’t gotten to Romans in the Bible yet but I’ve read this particular verse a few times and repeated it to myself many more times)
  2. Embrace correction – “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
    but whoever hates correction is stupid.” (Proverbs 12:1)
  3. Work hard – “All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.” (Proverbs 14:23)
  4. Create wealth the right way – “Dishonest money dwindles away,
    but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow.” (Proverbs 13:11)
  5. Surround yourself with good people – “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” (Proverbs 13:20)
  6. Think before you speak – “Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life;
    he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.” (Proverbs 13:3)
  7. In the end all of us will get what we deserve – “The Lord works out everything to its proper end—even the wicked for a day of disaster.” (Proverbs 16:4)

Day 1091: Using the Bible as a guide

“I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man. All the good from The Savior of the world is communicated to us through this Book.” ― Abraham Lincoln

It’s 12  : 37 PM on day 1091 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray, brush my teeth,  read 1 Samuel 25, publish my Disability of the Day feature,    publish my Kid of the Week feature,  feed myself  boiled egg and Bran Flakes for breakfast, go drop my sister at the airport – every time my sister goes back to university I’m reminded of where I should be in life it’s sad my parents say it doesn’t matter but I know it does they talk about my sister with such pride while they refer to me as their daughter who is “not well” or “slightly sick” – and  tweet and Facebook about my campaign – still no luck.

As you may know I read the Bible every day and although I don’t agree with everything in it there are a lot of things that I read in the Bible that I apply to my daily life yesterday in 1 Samuel 24 I read may the Lord be the judge between you and me may he avenge all the wrongs you have done to me next time somebody wrongs me I won’t even think about retaliating I will just say that. Is the Bible your guide through this journey called life?

Day 139

Holy books of every religion are designed to lead humanity in humanity in the right direction – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 9: 00 PM on day 139 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, go to church – it was the weirdest thing I felt like the sermon was meant just for me our reverend was saying stuff like sometimes you’ve got to do what makes you uncomfortable because you know it’s the right thing to do and even with that directly prompt from God I couldn’t do it and for the first time in my life I knew what it felt like to disappoint God – it was the WORST feeling ever 🙁  –  go visit my cousin who was leaving for university – I thought I would cry because I suddenly had flashbacks of the little boy who nobody thought would grow past the 1 meter mark LOL 🙂  –  feed myself Nina’s Pizza –  for lunch – I had never seen anything quite like it, it was a square- shaped pizza with four different kinds of toppings in each row – best pizza I’ve tasted in a long time 🙂 – go visit my other cousin – she told us a few days ago that she’s moving – everybody’s leaving must be something in the water 🙁 –     and feed myself  Chapati – an unleavened flatbread – and chicken curry for for dinner and   tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – still no luck I must do something different before time runs out and I need another extention but the question is what.

Today as I sat in church trying to drown-out the words of our reverend which by the fifth minute of the sermon had already started needling at my very soul I heard him say today’s reading is taken from Romans 12: 9 – 21 (see below) and despite the fact that I was really annoyed with my reverend I decided to listen because I felt that God deserved my full attention and looking back now I am so glad I did because I realize that the words uttered by God in those twelve verses applied to people of all religions, not just Christians. Are you guided by the words of your holy book or the pursuit of wealth? 🙂

 9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:

   “If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
   if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”

 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
