Day 2401: Back Home

There’s no place like home– that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 8: 53  PM on day 2401 of my journey towards independence and we spent twelve hours in a car travelling home after which we had dinner at my uncle’s house.

After spending twelve hours in a car we made it back home I’m so grateful for the memories made and people I met during my five days in Cape Town.

Day 2397: Arrived in Cape Town

Visit Cape Town– that’s my message to the world.

It’s 8: 30  AM on day 2397 of my journey towards independence and  I’m hanging out with family.

Yesterday we arrived Cape Town it’s as beautiful as ever and thanks to my superhero we’re staying at one of the best hotels in the city (I’m having the best time – can’t wait to paraglide tomorrow we’re hoping the weather plays it’s part)

Day 1988: Brownies & downieS South Africa

For a successful entrepreneur it can mean extreme wealth. But with extreme wealth comes extreme responsibility. And the responsibility for me is to invest in creating new businesses, create jobs, employ people, and to put money aside to tackle issues where we can make a difference.” -Richard Branson

It’s 12 : 25 PM on day 1988 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Titus 3, watch Sunrise on ETV – yep you guessed it I was watching because Catherine Constantinides was on 🙂 –  learn one new thing – The speed of light in a vacuum is 186,282 miles per second (299,792 kilometers per second), and in theory nothing can travel faster than light. In miles per hour, light speed is, well, a lot: about 670,616,629 mph. If you could travel at the speed of light, you could go around the Earth 7.5 times in one second.-have breakfast and work on my 25 Smiles Campaign –  raised $2 972 only $3 278 more to raise by 10 Jan 2017  (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far :)  ).

Yesterday on Introducing Up & Coming Current.. – a vlog by Dennis Ngango – I heard about Brownies & downieS – a coffee shop and lunchroom in Cape Town that primarily serves as training centre for the intellectually disabled – I love that Brownies & downieS is trying to give people who have intellectual disabilities independence and purpose. Residents of Cape Town: Please visit Brownies & downieS and buy a brownie on my behalf (I haven’t had a brownie in ages my mouth is watering just thinking about it).

(Note: Brownies & downieS did not pay me to write this post I did it because I believe business that care deserve support.)

Day 1597: 6 Things I Love about South Africa

South Africa is an awesome country – that’s what I want the world to know.

It’s 12 : 13 PM on day 1597 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  pray,  read Jeremiah 14, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  learn one new thing – A jellyfish and a cucumber are each 95% water –     promote my Educate Generations campaignMadalina Cristea who has donated once times before donated $20 yesterday (thank you SO MUCH Maddie your ongoing support means a lot to me :) ) which brings my total raised to $1 650 only $850 more to raise to reach goal- feed myself egg with bread and a banana for breakfast and continue promoting my campaign – still on $1 650 but I’m grateful 🙂

This morning for some reason I was thinking about what I love about South Africa and I just had to write it down. Take a look:

6 Things I Love about South Africa

  1. The whether – in summer we have beautiful sunshine and blue skies and in winter it’s rarely unbearably cold
  2. The people are diverse – you could be sitting next to a fellow South African and have no clue what they’re saying because they’re speaking another language (South African has eleven official languages)
  3. There’s so much to see – you could spend days in Cape Town without running out of things to do but if you’re not into sun, sea and sand (who’s not into that?) you can go to the Kruger National Park and see some of our wonderful wildlife
  4. The food – I love Umngqusho (samp and beans), Boerewors (long sausages rolled into a spiral and  cooked on a Braai (barbecue)), Biltong (jerky) and Koeksisters (deep fried dough dipped in cold sugar syrup)
  5. Our constitution – South Africa has one of the most advanced constitutions in the world under which (in theory) all who live here have the same rights (same-sex marriages were legalised in 2006)
  6. The sense of possibility – you think of someone like Mr. Mandela who grew up herding sheep, fought for his country and rose to the highest office in the land and you feel like anything is possible for your life

Day 1579: I love Cape Town

Cape Town is one of the best cities   in the world – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 4 : 19 PM on day 1579 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Isaiah 63, go to Canal Walk, see my sister’s new dorm room and go to Charly’s bakery.

Yesterday after an eleven and a half hour journey we arrived in the beautiful city of Cape Town I LOVE this city the weather is lovely, the population is diverse and there’s so much to do.

Day 1328: Day 2 of Cape Town Vacation

All good things must come to an end – that’s what I keep learning.

It’s 5  : 00 AM on day 1328 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth and get on the minibus heading back home.

Yesterday on the second and final day of our Cape Town vacation we went to the V&A Waterfront – a beautiful mall with an ocean view – and the Two Oceans Aquarium – an aquarium with all sorts of cool sea creatures including my favorites the purple jellyfish and the starfish.

Day 1327: Day 1 of Cape Town Vacation

Routine is good but having different experiences are what makes life worth living– that’s what I realized yesterday.

It’s  8  : 09 AM on day 1327 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, get changed – we  are going to the V & A Waterfront and maybe we’ll hit some museums and the aquarium – and pray.

Yesterday on day 1 of our Cape Town vacation we saw Table Mountain – one of the most beautiful most mountains in the world – Canal Walk – one of the largest shopping malls in South Africa – Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden and Grand West Casino.

Day 1326: Traveling with Cerebral Palsy

Make the best of everything – that’s what I keep learning.

It’s  7  : 33 AM on day 1326 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, get changed – we  are going to Table Mountain and other places today we’ll blog about it with pictures in the next few days – and pray.

Yesterday we arrived at Cape Town only to realize that our oh so beautiful apartment which we knew was wheelchair inaccessible was even more wheelchair inaccessible than we originally thought (the living room, a kitchen and a bathroom is downstairs while everything else is upstairs) oh the joys of travelling with Cerebral Palsy I will make the best of it.Do you try to make the best of everything?

Day 1325: Impromptu vacation to Cape Town

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” ― Augustine of Hippo

It’s 5  : 00 AM on day 1325 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth and get on the minibus (read explanation in the paragraph below).

A few days ago my family decided that we would go sightseeing with our family members who are visiting from America so as you read this I’m probably on a twelve journey from my hometown to the world famous city of Cape Town apparently there’s free Wi-Fi where we are going to stay so if time allows I will be blogging from Cape Town for the next two days otherwise I will publish Thursday’s and Friday’s blog posts on Saturday evening when I get back home.

Day 870

When one chapter of your life ends another one begins– that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s  11 : 48 PM on day 870 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, go with my family to pick up my sister from her dorm and go visit a family friend – my parents waited to say goodbye to her one last time while we were there we decided to take her visiting with us – return my sister to her dorm with my family – I didn’t cry this time (thank the pope) we just said goodbye and left – travel back home from Cape Town only stopping to eat, go to my uncle’s house and brush my teeth once more.

Today on the drive back home from Cape Town I realized that my sister being in university was the start of a different chapter of life for both of us we did so much together and although I’m fine with being by myself now that she’s gone I feel like I have to find my own friends and do things on my own. Do you believe that when one chapter of your life ends another one begins?

I LOVE hearing from you feel free to leave a comment below.
