Day 1248: Different = tragic?

Being different is not tragic – that’s what I want the world to know.

It’s 12  : 00 PM on day 1248 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray,  brush my teeth, read Nehemiah 5, feed myself bread with egg for breakfast,    publish my Disability of the Day feature, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, stretch my hamstrings and  promote my Eradicate AIDS campaign – 8 days no donations so far.

Yesterday I read “Love Not Fear” – a blog post about how “experts” equate having Autism with being a tragedy and a burden – although I don’t have Autism I could relate to this post when people find out I have Cerebral Palsy they automatically assume that I live a sad and tragic life when in fact nothing could be further from the truth I LOVE my life I have a great family and friends and I spend every day of my life trying to make a difference in the world. Do you see someone who is visibly different and automatically feel pity because you assume that his or her life is worse than yours?
