Day 500

Times are changing fast– that’s what I learned today 🙁

It’s 7 : 28 PM on day 500 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Genesis 11 as part of my ongoing quest to learn more about the Bible, feed myself a boiled egg for breakfast, drink juice by myself, prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature, reply to a few comments on this blog,   work,   feed myself spaghetti bolognaise for lunch, watch TV – my brother was using the laptop – and work some more.

Today while working I was listening to the radio and I was SHOCKED at how sexually explicit the music was every second lyric of almost every song had the words fuck or hump in them is it just me or is that totally inappropriate no wonder my brother came home from school in the fourth grade and asked my father what a condom was whatever happened to the days when the lyrics of songs actually had meaning. Are you able to adapt to the new cultural norms quickly enough?

Are we connecting on Twitter? If not, say hi at http://twitter.com/Nisha360

If you’ve given to my cause or you can’t give now, please help me by sharing my cause with others. You can tweet about it like my friend Stan Faryna. This is the tweet he uses: @Nisha360 is a brave, smart young woman trying to make a better world for us all. Please help her do an amazing thing. http://bit.ly/hC7vOu

Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.

Thanks to all my friends out there who are helping me make my dream come true: to make a better world for all of us!

    Hi

Nope your rite about the music today. Our kids love
the older country music and oldies to. Same is with the
tv and movies now a days.

Our 14 yr old daughter when she was about 10 or 11
asked me what a tampon was for because she seen it
on tv and all so the pads with wings. I had to explain
both to her. Tampons she thinks is gross. lol

You are raising an important question about song lyrics. Think about radio as a ongoing brainwashing. So if they are using those sexually explicit words all the time, do you even wonder why we have so many single mother or sexual abuse in this country and worldwide?

You’re right Ramon it is a brainwashing of sorts and the sad part is these kids are too young to understand that they are being brainwashed and that I know does play a role in young girls making bad choices.

    Hi

So true about the songs and you got tv shows
and movies that have sex seen.

Our 14 yr old daughter new more about sex than
I did at her age and some is coming from her friends
    in school.

I think parents should sit down and talk with there
children about sex and what can happen if protection
not used and what these songs and all other things mean.

When I was young talking about sex was a taboo you didn’t
mention it in my mom’s house. Now with me I’ll sit and explain
things to our children. Other parents should talk open to there kids.

Yes really she asked me I’ve a close relation with our kids.
I’m glad they can come to me with any thing.
