Day 490

We may all be equal in the eyes of God but we are not equal in the eyes of man – that’s what I learned today 🙁

It’s 7: 20 PM on day 490 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a boiled egg for breakfast, practice typing with both hands, read Genesis 1 as part of my ongoing quest to learn more about the Bible,   prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature, tweak this blog – added photos and customized my music player – watch TV, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch some more TV – the laptop was in use so I didn’t have a choice but to entertain myself – and exercise for a while.

A few days ago I read Should kids with disabilities be denied transplants? Some doctors think so on Love That Max and I was shocked by the fact that a DOCTOR at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) recommended against a kidney transplant for Amelia – a two-year-old who has Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that causes cognitive impairment – because she was “mentally retarded”(read this story as told by Chrissy – Amelia’s mother –) I signed the petition asking The Children”s Hospital of Philadelphia to reconsider their decision and today I’m asking you to do the same because I believe that no doctor or hospital in the world has the right to decide who gets to live and who gets to die. Does your belief that we are all equal match your actions?

Statement from The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia:  CHOP does not have any criteria which exclude patients from being considered for transplant solely on the basis of their cognitive status.

Are we connecting on Twitter? If not, say hi at http://twitter.com/Nisha360

If you’ve given to my cause or you can’t give now, please help me by sharing my cause with others. You can tweet about it like my friend Stan Faryna. This is the tweet he uses: @Nisha360 is a brave, smart young woman trying to make a better world for us all. Please help her do an amazing thing. http://bit.ly/hC7vOu

Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.

Thanks to all my friends out there who are helping me make my dream come true: to make a better world for all of us!
