It’s important to leave bread crumbs as you walk this path called life so that you can find your way back easily if you ever get lost – that’s what I learned today 🙂
It’s 7: 26 PM on day 406 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, publish my Disability of the Day feature–I prepared it yesterday night – practice typing with both my hands – I kept forgetting to use my right hand maybe I should just tie my left hand behind my back until my right hand becomes a little more dominant – tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck – watch TV, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch some more TV, feed myself yoghurt for dinner and brush my teeth once more.
Today I typed a letter to my thirty-year-old self to practice item #3 on my Timeline to complete all the things I need to do to become physically independent list – typing with both hands – and I was absolutely amazed at how much I learned about myself, the people in my life and what I want for the future. Take a look:
Dear 30-year-old me,
I am writing this letter so that hopefully when you read this ten years from now you can look back on the past ten years of your life and either say I am living the kind of life I envisioned for myself when I was twenty or if you got a little sidetracked – which you often do (hopefully you’ve lost that with age) – you can say what can I do now to create the life that I envisioned for myself when I was twenty.
Ten years on I hope you’ve published ‘The Accidental Philanthropist’ – the book about how you went about raising money to build a well in India/Africa and all the wonderful people you’ve met on that journey – become physically and financially independent, travelled across Europe but most of all I hope you’re happy and that you go to bed every day grateful for something just as I do.
Before I conclude this letter which must now seem like a lecture to you I KNOW (don’t ask me how I know) that money is not and never will be a problem for you so share it with an open heart because at the end of the day what we have is not ours we are merely custodians.
Yours sincerely,
Twenty-year-old Nisha
PS. If you haven’t forgiven daddy completely for the way he’s treated you in the past just do it maybe he thought he was protecting you from discrimination by not taking you out in public not realizing that he was actually discriminating against you by doing that.
Are we connecting on Twitter? If not, say hi at http://twitter.com/Nisha360
If you’ve given to my cause or you can’t give now, please help me by sharing my cause with others. You can tweet about it like my friend Stan Faryna. This is the tweet he uses: @Nisha360 is a brave, smart young woman trying to make a better world for us all. Please help her do an amazing thing. http://bit.ly/hC7vOu
Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.
Thanks to all my friends out there who are helping me make my dream come true: to make a better world for all of us!
