Day 1832: $5 000+ raised for the Educate Generations campaign so far

Some people of the world are generous beyond belief – that’s what I know.

It’s  12 :  21  PM on day 1832 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Luke 22, publish my Disability of the Day feature, publish my Kid of the Week feature, learn one new thing –Fractious [frac·tious] adj. (1) Easily irritated; bad-tempered: “they fight and squabble like fractious kids.” (2) (of an organization) Difficult to control; unruly.– and promote my Educate Generations campaign – yesterday   Bruce Sallan donated $65 and Priyachechi donated $20 (thanks so much Bruce and chechi I really appreciate the support from both of you 🙂 ) which brings my total raised to $5 025 with 13 days still to go.

Yesterday “my” (it’s not just my campaign anymore it’s our campaign) Educate Generations campaign benefiting the Malala Fund surpassed the $5 000 mark I can hardly believe it the world’s generosity has left me speechless (which is a very difficult thing to do just ask my family LOL) and deeply touched thank you so much to everyone who has adopted this campaign and made it their own your support means more to me than you’ll ever know. The campaign only ends on October 3 2015 so if you still want to donate you can visit https://www.classy.org/EducateGenerations and do so.

[Update October 3 2015: Campaign over. Final total raised is $5 285]

Day 1706: How being on the receiving end of generosity has changed me

Giving changes both the lives of the givers and the receivers – that’s what I have realized.

It’s 12 :  05 PM on day 1706 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Hosea 5, publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing –Egyptian hieroglyphs—a system in which pictures represent sounds—first appeared around 3100 B.C. Cuneiform writing emerged in Mesopotamia not too long after, around 2400 B.C. –  feed myself egg with bread for breakfast  and promote my Educate Generations campaign– $2 919 raised so far so grateful (thanks everyone 🙂 ) .

Last night I was thinking about how being on the receiving end of the world’s generosity has changed me as a human being people from all over the world (most of whom I’ve never met in person) have really shown up for me they’ve donated money, time, social media platforms…. you name it they’ve given me their all and perhaps because of that I want to help everybody that I can it’s very hard to be stingy after you’ve been on the receiving end of overwhelming generosity. Thank you to everyone who has supported me you gave of your resources and in the process forever changed me as a human being.

Day 217

Generosity is giving more than you can, and pride is taking less than you need. – Khalil Gibran

It’s 9: 59 PM on day 217 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a bread and jam sandwich for breakfast, watch TV, listen to music – I love Keith Urban’s songs because truly we all live in this world and all of us can relate to love, hate, pain and heartbreak 🙂 – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch some more TV, continue reading Boundary Lines – the second book in Engaging The Enemy by Nora Roberts, feed myself noodles and vegetable curry for dinner, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign and read some more.

This morning as soon as our housekeeper came into work I was like an excited toddler I asked were the sandwiches enough to feed everybody (if you have no idea what I’m talking about refer to ‘Day 215’) and she replied smiling at my enthusiasm yes, they were and they said to tell you thank you and I just stared at her not knowing how to respond to gratitude they told me to take a photo of you because they want to see what you look like she finished as she went off to do house work and in that moment the frustration I felt on Saturday while making the sandwiches seemed insignificant compared to the joy I felt knowing that those sandwiches meant so much to them. Are you generous in spirit?
