Day 1889: 21 Icons season 3 episode 11: Phindile Sithole-Spong

It’s  12 : 00 PM on day 1799 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Romans 6, publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing  –Xmas and Rosh Hashana. Pomegranates appear on many Greek and Jewish tables during the holidays. At weddings and at New Years, Greeks break a pomegranate on the ground for good luck. – have breakfast and work on my future project.

Day 1882: 21 Icons season 3 episode 10: Ashley Uys

It’s  12 :  19 PM on day 1792 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Acts 27, publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing  –Pontificate [pon·tif·i·cate] v. To speak or behave in a pompous or dogmatic manner. “He pontificates at great length in political matters.”– have breakfast and work on my future project.

 

Last night I watched season 3 episode 10 of 21 Icons featuring biotechnologist and entrepreneur Ashley Uys – Ashley developed a self-testing malaria kit – people like Ashley give me hope for South Africa he’s young, smart and hard working. Watch “21 Icons: Ashley Uys : Short Film” below:

 

Day 1875: 21 Icons season 3 episode 9: Michaela Mycroft

It’s  12 :  10 PM on day 1875 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Acts 20, publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing -Gravitas [grav·i·tas] n. Dignity, seriousness, or solemnity in manner. “He has the necessary gravitas to lead the company.”- have breakfast and work on my potential future project.

 

Yesterday I watched season 3 episode 9 of 21 Icons featuring ability activist Michaela Mycroft –  recipient of the 2011 International Children’s Peace Prize,  founder of the Chaeli Campaign and the first female quadriplegic to summit Mount Kilimanjaro who just happens to have Cerebral Palsy – I could so relate to what she said about her disability making her who she is (I feel that way too) and I so love that she and Gary turned the wheelchair into an object of desire.  Watch season 3 episode 9 of 21 Icons featuring ability activist Michaela Mycroft below:

Day 1868: 21 Icons season 3 episode 8: Ludwick Marishane

It’s  12 :  30  PM on day 1868 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Acts 13, publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing –Definition of tremulous 1.(of persons, the body, etc.) characterized by trembling, as from fear, nervousness, or weakness.2. timid; timorous; fearful. 3. (of things) vibratory, shaking, or quivering. – have breakfast and some work – i cannot say anything about my third (sort of) job it’s nothing illegal or immoral it’s just private.

 

Last night I watched season 3 episode 8 of 21 Icons featuring entrepreneur Ludwick Marishane – the inventor of DryBath, the world’s first non-water based bath substitute – I so agree with what Ludwick said about self-education if you’re humble enough to admit that you don’t know everything and willing to learn the world is your oyster. Day 1861: 21 Icons season 3 episode 7: Thato Kgatlhanye

It’s  12 :  42  PM on day 1861 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Acts 6, publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing – Provenance [prov·e·nance] n. The beginning of something’s existence; something’s origin. The place of origin or earliest known history of something. “An exquisite vase of Chinese provenance.”- have breakfast and do some research for a local project i’m working on – who knew baby clothes were so expensive (thank you God for all that you’ve already given me please God give  me the resources to bring a little Christmas  joy into these kids lives).

 

Yesterday I watched season 3 episode 7 of 21 Icons featuring social entrepreneur Thato Kgatlhanye through Rethaka (the company that she co-founded) Thato and her team repurpose school bags from plastic bags included in the school bags are solar lamps for children to be able to study at night. Day 1847: 21 Icons season 3 episode 5: Catherine Constantinides

It’s  12 :  05  PM on day 1847 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read John 13, publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing –Capacious [ca·pa·cious] adj. Having a lot of space inside; roomy. “A capacious closet.”- have breakfast and go shopping with the parents – both my parents are teachers and it’s spring break here so everyone’s on holiday for a week (Happy World Teacher’s Day mommy and daddy I know your job is thankless and often heartbreaking but you get up every day and have hope for your students and for that I thank you 🙂 ).

 

Last night I watched season 3 episode 5 of 21 Icons featuring climate activist and humanitarian Catherine Constantinides admittedly I’m grossly biased towards Catherine I so admire who she is as a person and the work she does it’s rare that you can see how you feel inside in another person but I can honestly say in Catherine I see the fire I feel inside myself it’s really hard to explain it’s passion, laser-like focus and the drive to succeed.  Watch season 3 episode 5 of 21 Icons featuring the EXTRAORDINARY Catherine Constantinides below:

Day 1840: 21 Icons season 3 episode 4: Lucas Sithole

It’s 12 :  45 PM on day 1840  of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  pray, read John 6,    publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing – wayworn 1.worn or wearied by travel–  and  promote my Educate Generations campaign – I wouldn’t mention this but since I mention every other donation I feel like I should mention this one and besides it could inspire someone to give I donated $7 with my mom’s card (mom I swear I will pay you back before the end of the week I know you don’t care whether I do or not but I care it’s sort of a pride thing) [I can’t make online payments using my card so every time I need to make a payment I use my mom or dad’s credit card I always intend to pay them back but they say it’s not necessary or time passes and I forget but this time i’m determined to pay back the money (President Zuma are you listening? Me thinks you should do the same LOL 🙂 ) I can’t control whether other people help me or not but I can back myself and support the causes I believe in.     

 

Yesterday I watched season 3 episode 4 of 21 Icons featuring Lucas Sithole, one of the best wheelchair tennis players in the world, I could relate to Lucas’s story I too wouldn’t be me without my wheelchair the chair itself does not (and WILL NEVER) define me but the perseverance and strength I have learned from being on this chair is what makes me who I am today.   Watch season 3 episode 4 of 21 Icons featuring Lucas Sithole below:

Day 1833: 21 Icons season 3 episode 3: Thulani Madondo

It’s 12 : 29  PM on day 1833  of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, read Luke 23,    publish my Disability of the Day feature,  learn one new thing –Grasses are technically called “graminoids” and are usually herbaceous plants with narrow leaves that grow from their base. To break it down even further—there are 3 different types of grasses: Juncaceae (Rushes), Cyperaceae (Sedges, Bullrushes), and Poaceae (Grasses).. – and   promote my Educate Generations campaign – $5 025 raised so far with 12 days still to go till the end of the campaign (thanks SO MUCH everyone i REALLY appreciate your support 🙂 ).

 

Yesterday I watched season 3 episode 3 of 21 Icons featuring Thulani Madondo I feel like I discovered Thulani first since I wrote about him on this blog years ago when he was named one of CNN’s Top Ten Heroes Thuluni co-founded the Kliptown Youth Program through which he provides education for 400 kids from his community (23 of them have finished school and are now in university).  Watch season 3 episode 3 of 21 Icons featuring the fantastic Thulani Madondo below:

It’s 12 : 00  PM on day 1826  of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, read Luke 16,    publish my Disability of the Day feature,  learn one new thing – Frogs don’t need to drink water as they absorb it through their skin. – and   promote my Educate Generations campaign – my cousin, Vinita, donated $100 yesterday (thanks SO MUCH for the support chechi and chachen appreciate it (from Rumpelstiltskin to money I just get more demanding with age LOL [when I was little I was obsessed with Rumpelstiltskin I used to ask her to tell me the story over and over and over again]) and I also have to thank my friend  Bruce Sallan who wrote #Charity Comes to #DadChat Thursday – #MalalaFund as a prelude to his Twitter Chat about the campaign taking place on Thursday (thanks Bruce appreciate your support as always 🙂 ).

 

Yesterday I watched season 3 episode 2 of 21 Icons featuring the strong and courageous Jes Foord in 2008 Jes was unfortunately raped by five so-called men but being the strong and courageous woman that she is Jes chose to use this horrific experience that happened to her to help others through the Jes Foord Foundation Jes has reminded me that we define our experiences our experiences don’t define us. Jes if you’re reading this please know that I am forever changed by you and your story now whenever I feel weak or afraid I will think of you and try to channel your strength and courage.
