You are who you are because you do what you do– that’s what I keep learning 🙂
It’s 6: 50 PM on day 645 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself Oats for breakfast, drink tea by myself, prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature, work, exercise my right hand – my new goal is to learn how to type with both hands – watch TV, feed myself sweet potato, tapioca and fish curry for lunch and watch some more TV.
Yesterday marked the one month countdown to Nelson Mandela’s 94th birthday and in honour of that I’m going to share with you some of the lessons that he has taught me:
- Perseverance: He spent 27 years in prison so that all South Africans could have the same rights and opportunities
- Forgiveness: Even after everything he went through he walked out of prison ready to forgive and move forward
- We are small but we can be great: Nelson Mandela was born just like everybody else and enjoyed a pretty ordinary childhood the but when push came to shove he was willing to sacrifice everything for what he believed in and that’s what made him the great person he is today
