Day 512

20 At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship 21 and said:

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
and naked I will depart.[a]
The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away;
may the name of the LORD be praised.”

– Job 1: 20-21

It’s 7 : 30 PM on day 512 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,   pray, read Genesis 23 as part of my ongoing quest to learn more about the Bible – I read Genesis 22 last night – prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature,  drink tea by myself, feed myself a mango pickle sandwich for breakfast, drink water – from a glass – by myself,   work, exercise,   feed myself rice and curry for dinner and work some more.

This morning I heard that South African athlete Oscar Pistorius received the Laureus World Sportsperson with a Disability Award (congratulations Oscar) at a gala function in London yesterday evening and I couldn’t help thinking how different the world would have been had he been able-bodied – he’s a double amputee sprint runner – the name Oscar Pistorius is synonymous with pushing the limit and being the best you can be just proves what I’ve believed for a long time God creates each one of us exactly as we are meant to be so that we can be the people we are destined to be. What has God taken away from you that has been a blessing?
