Day 1520: My thoughts on the school blast in Nigeria

You can’t make sense out of nonsense – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 12 : 15 PM on day 1520 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Isaiah 7,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, stretch my hamstrings,  feed myself oats for breakfast  and promote my Educate Generations campaign–still on $770 I feel like I’m screaming into the abyss but I’ll keep screaming anyway because if I stop there will be one less person trying to do good in the world and I don’t want that to happen.

Yesterday I read Nigeria school blast in Potiskum kills dozens and I was heartbroken as long as I live I will never understand why some people go out of their way to intentionally hurt others why couldn’t the people behind this attack just leave those kids alone and let them go to school. My thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this tragedy.

As a Christian, you should know that there is a kingdom set against humanity – all of the human family. This is Satan’s kingdom which includes Satan, their king, one third of the angels (now fallen) and demons (which Scripture does not explain). Among the ambitions of Satan’s kingdom is our death, destruction and condemnation. Because the human person is made in the image of God, because we have been made for wonderful purposes and because God loves us.

We are at war with spiritual creatures whether we know it or not. Whether we acknowledge it or not. The war is inescapable.

As a Christian, you should also know that demons can and will possess (or demonize) the human person. Jesus cast out many demons and this is written in the Gospels. In the case of both the non-Christian and Christian, demons have the authority to control and influence them – especially in regard to those areas of our personality and behavior which is performed or experienced in sin. Of course, we don’t like to consider the role of demons in our lives and we don’t even like to think about demons. But they are real even if we can’t usually see them with our own eyes.

When considering demons, I am often reminded of the re-phrasing of the great truth in The Usual Suspects:

“The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.”

Therefore you should know that when there is much evil, when there are crimes that cry out to heaven, when people are lawless and violent, and when sorrow overflows, the Devil is prevailing among us. But only for a time. For Jesus is victorious and the triumph is written.

As a Christian, you should know that God has given each of us power to fight in this war. Put on the whole armor of God and you will prevail. This too is written.
