Day 494

When you see that nobody around you is doing what needs to be done you should step up and do it even if it’s not your responsibility – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 6: 51 PM on day 494 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Genesis 5 as part of my ongoing quest to learn more about the Bible,  prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature, work, feed myself a hotdog for brunch, work some more, go to physiotherapy and finish working.

This morning I was watching my brother sleep suddenly what happened last night crossed my mind – my parents were having a HUGE fight – I don’t know about what – and for the first time I saw sadness in my brother’s eyes so I said it’s not your fault ( I told him what it was like for me growing up and how I thought they fought because I was disabled) they’re just kidding around (we both knew that wasn’t true they were cursing at each other and breaking picture frames) they’re a little crazy in the head then after a brief pause I continued you’re going to change the world someday he tried to contradict me but I said if I can change the world you can too it was just a heartbreaking situation what annoyed me the most was that I was forced to be the parent while my parents were in the other room venting – and I promised myself that I would instill in him respect for women which is not my responsibility I know but who else is going to do it my parents though they love us are lost in their own world and my sister she’s got her own life story of my life really always cleaning up others people’s mess and making sure everybody’s okay – when I was younger I would make it my job to mend fences between my mom and dad whenever they got into a fight (Note to all my family members who might read this: it is not my intention to make mommy and daddy look bad I am just writing about my experience I can’t help that they were a part of that experience if you can’t understand that you are free to leave this blog and never return). Have you ever had to step into a role that was not your own for the good of someone you love?

Are we connecting on Twitter? If not, say hi at http://twitter.com/Nisha360

If you’ve given to my cause or you can’t give now, please help me by sharing my cause with others. You can tweet about it like my friend Stan Faryna. This is the tweet he uses: @Nisha360 is a brave, smart young woman trying to make a better world for us all. Please help her do an amazing thing. http://bit.ly/hC7vOu

Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.

Thanks to all my friends out there who are helping me make my dream come true: to make a better world for all of us!
