Some people are just mean – that’s what I learned today 🙁
It’s 7: 05 PM on day 436 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck – feed myself a chicken nugget sandwich for brunch, watch TV, feed myself Batura and chicken curry for dinner and brush my teeth once more.
Today I received a Direct Message from Jenelle Ramsami (@MissJenjo) – a model from Durban, South Africa who just happens to be hearing impaired – saying that someone had tweeted her and a friend telling them that she doesn’t deserve to win FHM 2012 just because she is hearing impaired which really bothered (and still bothers) me suffice to say I gave the sender of that tweet a piece of my mind why is it that when someone who has a disability achieves something great or receives an award people think it’s because of or in spite of his/her disability why can’t it be because they are good at what they do. Do you have to tear people down to lift yourself up?
Are we connecting on Twitter? If not, say hi at http://twitter.com/Nisha360
If you’ve given to my cause or you can’t give now, please help me by sharing my cause with others. You can tweet about it like my friend Stan Faryna. This is the tweet he uses: @Nisha360 is a brave, smart young woman trying to make a better world for us all. Please help her do an amazing thing. http://bit.ly/hC7vOu
Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.
