Day 917

Everything happens for a reason – that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s 3 : 24 PM on day 917 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  stretch my hamstrings. take off my dirty t-shirt and put a clean t-shirt on, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,   brush my teeth,  pray,  read Exodus 37, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  practice typing with both hands,  work,  feed myself bread and baked beans  for breakfast, listen to music,  promote my 10 For 22 Campaign -it turns out only people in the US can donate trees I probably should have checked if people all around the world could donate before I chose this charity to work with oh well we live and we learn I’m still going to try and get the 20 more donations I need to reach my goal – and watch TV.

Yesterday I came across I Am Second – David Ring – a video about David Ring, a husband, father and preacher who just happens to have Cerebral Palsy – watching the whole video today I was inspired and convinced that everything in life happens for a reason. Watch this inspirational story:

Day 916

Rest – that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s 5  : 06 PM on day 916 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, go to church,  feed myself All Bran Flakes with Soy Milk for breakfast,  read Exodus 36, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  publish my Kid of the Week feature, play catch outside with my brother and grandma – it was quite fun 🙂 – feed myself  salad rolls for lunch, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, do a crossword puzzle – if you ever do a crossword do the words you know first it makes it easier for you to figure out the words you don’t know – and practice typing with both hands.

Today I decided that every Sunday from today onwards would be my Do-Nothing Day, a day where I spend less time doing what I usually do during the week and more time with my family doing what I want to do. Do you rest at least once a week?

Day 915

We don’t need as much as we think we do – that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s 2 : 24 PM on day 915 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  pray, feed myself All Bran Flakes with Soy Milk and Banana for breakfast, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,    read Exodus 35, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  practice typing with both hands,  listen to music and stretch my hamstrings.

This morning while eating All Bran Flakes with Soy Milk and Banana for breakfast I realized we don’t need to eat meat or meat products we just choose to being on Lent has made me think about how an animal is treated before it ends up on my plate after Lent I’m going to make a conscious effort to eat less meat after all animals are living creatures just like us. Has going without something made you realize that you don’t actually need it?

Day 914

Sometimes people can be a bigger obstacle than my physical challenges – that’s what I learned today.

It’s 1 : 49 PM on day 914 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  pray, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,  take off my dirty t-shirt and put a clean t-shirt on,  read Exodus 34, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  practice typing with both hands, feed myself an avocado sandwich for breakfast and listen to music.

Today I realized sometimes people can be a bigger obstacle than my physical challenges people do things for me because it’s faster for them to do something for me than it is for me to do something for myself but what they don’t realize is that by doing everything for me they are robbing me of the opportunity to learn how to do things for myself I often ask the people who are so eager to “help” me what’s going to happen to me if you kick the bucket before me to which they say something like we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it truth is we won’t cross that bridge when we get to it I will be left to cross that bridge by myself while they’re having a great time in Heaven to prevent that from happening in the future I’m going to work my way around the “helpful” people in my life and learn how to be as independent as I possibly can. Have people been a bigger challenge than all your other challenges put together?

Day 913

It is well to give when asked, but it is better to give unasked, through understanding.
― Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet

It’s 3 : 19 PM on day 913 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to take off my dirty t-shirt and put a clean t-shirt on, stretch my hamstrings, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, brush my teeth, pray, read Exodus 33, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  practice typing with both hands,,  feed myself an avocado sandwich for breakfast, listen to music, spend some time outside – the weather outside is gorgeous I thought it would be a shame to waste it sitting inside – and watch TV.

A few days ago I read Kevin and Christine Williams Give Away £22,500 Raised For Sick Daughter To Little Boy With Cerebral Palsy – an article about Kevin and Christine Williams who gave away the money they raised for their daughter’s treatment to a boy with Cerebral Palsy after they found out further treatment wasn’t an option for their daughter – the fact that Kevin and Christine Williams could say in the midst of everything they were going through maybe we can’t help our daughter but we can help someone else’s son learn how to walk blows me away and inspires me to stretch myself when I give I will never forget the generosity of Kevin and Christine Williams. If you had something that someone else needed would you give it without them having to ask?

Day 912

You can be grateful for everything you have and still be sad for all the things you don’t have  – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 2 : 26 PM on day 912 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to     brush my teeth,  pray,   read Exodus 32, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  practice typing with both hands, feed myself a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast, listen to music – I LOVE LOVE LOVE Carly Rose Sonenclar X Factor USA 2012 runner-up – and  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles.

Today I was having one of those I-wish-I-could-switch-bodies-with-someone-else days people sometimes see me crying and ask why are you crying well I’ll tell you I’m 21 (almost 22) and I still need someone to take me to the bathroom on top of that when I ask someone to do something for me they ask do you need me to do it now like it’s a huge inconvenience or something so excuse me if I cry a few tears of frustration once in a while I’m allowed I doubt the people who ask me why I’m crying could deal  with my life as well as I am. Are you sometimes grateful for everything you have and sad for all the things you don’t have?

Day 911

Everybody is here to change the world in their own way – that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s 3 : 36 PM on day 911 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to stretch my hamstrings, take off my dirty t-shirt and put a clean t-shirt on,    brush my teeth, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,  feed myself All Bran Flakes with soy milk for breakfast, pray,   read Exodus 31, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  practice typing with both hands, work,  and feed myself a baked beans sandwich and a banana for lunch and watch TV.

A couple of weeks ago I stumbled on to Amanda JourneyWithCP – a YouTube channel created by Amanda who happens to have Cerebral Palsy – I could really relate to what Amanda goes through from having to deal with ignorant people to mobility issues we’ve been through it all and whether Amanda knows it or not she is doing through her vlog what I aim to do through this blog – educate the world about Cerebral Palsy and show people that we are all more alike than we are different. Take a look at Amanda’s vlog below:

Day 910

If I have to battle through life that’s exactly what I’ll do  – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 3 : 53 PM on day 910 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  brush my teeth, feed myself All Bran Flakes with soy milk for breakfast, pray,   read Exodus 30, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  work, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, practice typing with both hands, take off my dirty t-shirt and put a clean t-shirt on, stretch my hamstrings and feed myself spring rolls and half a peanut butter sandwich for lunch.

Today after struggling to change my shirt I decided that if I had to battle through life that’s exactly what I would do God didn’t give me life with the promise that my life would be easy on the contrary I think He has put all these challenges in front of me to make me a better version of who I already am so I’m not going to be mad at life or ask why God is punishing me instead I’m going to face life with a good attitude and see where that takes me.    Have you decided to battle through life if you have to?

Day 909

People mean well but sometimes the things they say and the assumptions they make are insulting  – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7  : 28 PM on day 909 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  brush my teeth, pray,  read Exodus 29, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  publish my Kid of the Week feature,go to church – the sermon was called A Shocking Story the Reverend shared with us the story of The Prodigal Son, explained that the story is not about the two sons but rather about the grace of the father and said something I will never forget he said you don’t understand grace until you understand that it can never be earned or deserved –feed myself a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, practice typing with both hands,   feed myself rice and curry for lunch, stretch my hamstrings, take a nap, feed myself Stir Fry for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Today a close relative of ours came to visit and he said to my mother I saw someone like Nisha in the paper (translation: I saw a person in a wheelchair in the paper) she does motivational speaking Nisha can do that too I resent the implication that all people who are in wheelchairs are just like me or vice-versa I would much rather he said I saw a person in a wheelchair in the paper she does motivational speaking Nisha can do that too  because we people in wheelchairs are all different and have our own hopes, dreams and desires in spite of the fact that we are all in wheelchairs. Are you easily insulted by the things people say and assume in spite of the fact that you know that they have good intentions?

Day 908

There’s nothing that I can do about something that’s already been done – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 4 : 15 PM on day 908 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to work on this blog, brush my teeth,  pray,   read Exodus 28, feed myself a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, publish my Disability of the Day feature, practice typing with both hands and stretch my hamstrings.

Today I may have made a colossal mistake by spending money on something that I am unable to download I contacted the people who created the product and asked them for assistance if they can help me great if not, I’m not going to beat myself up over it I can’t go back and unspend the money I spent so why torture myself. Do you beat yourself up over past mistakes?
