Day 1082: Insecurities feed consumerism

Insecurities feed consumerism – that’s what I keep learning.

It’s 12  : 10 PM on day 1082 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth, read 1 Samuel 16,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,   feed myself  Bran Flakes   for breakfast,    tweet and Facebook about my campaign – Alison Austin over at Thinking of Starting a Blog donated $20 yesterday (thanks again Alison) now I only need to raise $80  in the next 46 days to reach goal :) –  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles and take off my dirty turtleneck and t-shirt and put on a clean t-shirt and hoodie – it took me two hours to do but like everything else in my life I eventually got it done Walt Disney once said the difference between winning and losing is most often, not quitting  I have found that to be so true in my life.

Yesterday watching TV I realized insecurities feed consumerism the media constantly keeps telling us that we are not good enough so we buy things but that doesn’t help so we buy more things it’s just a never-ending cycle I wonder what would happen if we all decided we were okay without the expensive make-up or fancy car I think we would be more fulfilled.  Are your insecurities causing you to buy things you don’t need?

Day 1080: Being kind in a cruel world

We live in a cruel cruel world all we can do is be kind– that’s what I keep learning.

It’s 12  : 25 PM on day 1080 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth,  feed myself Bran Flakes  for breakfast,  read 1 Samuel 14,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, tweet and Facebook about my campaign –  no one donated today but Anonymous  donated $10 yesterday (thanks again Anonymous) now I only need to raise $100  in the next 48 days to reach goal :) – and take off my dirty jacket and t-shirt and put on a clean t-shirt.

Over the past couple of days I’ve been seeing images of died Syrian children on the internet and on the news and those images haunt me to this very moment I will never in my life understand why two groups of people who have issues with each other let their anger spill over onto innocent people I guess we can’t make sense out of nonsense all we can do is be extra kind to make up for all the cruel people out there.

Praying for Syria.

Day 1079: Brave by Sara Bareilles

They can kill you but they can’t eat you might as well be brave by saying what you mean and meaning what you say – that’s what I keep learning.

It’s 12  : 23 PM on day 1079 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth,  feed myself boiled egg and Bran Flakes  for breakfast,  read 1 Samuel 13,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, tweet and Facebook about my campaign -nobody donated so far today either – and practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles.

Yesterday I heard Brave by Sara Bareilles again I just love the message of the song it’s about saying what you mean and meaning what you say. Listen to Brave by Sara Bareilles below:

Day 1078: AJ Jacobs: How healthy living nearly killed me

Everything in moderation. – Giada De Laurentiis

It’s 12  : 38 PM on day 1078 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth,  feed myself boiled egg and Bran Flakes  for breakfast,  read 1 Samuel 12,   publish my Disability of the Day feature and tweet and Facebook about my campaign -nobody donated so far today.

A while ago I watched AJ Jacobs: How healthy living nearly killed me – a Ted Talk by AJ Jacobs who for a year followed every piece of health advice he could – it cracked me up it’s a must-watch for health nuts like myself. Watch AJ Jacobs: How healthy living nearly killed me below:

Day 1077: What people say behind your back and why it matters?

What people say in front of you doesn’t matter as much as what they say behind your back – that’s what I keep learning.

It’s 1 : 45 PM on day 1077 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth,  read 1 Samuel 11,  publish my Disability of the Day feature,  publish my Kid of the Week feature,  feed myself  boiled egg and bran flakes  for breakfast,  go to church, go visit my granny in hospital and and tweet and Facebook about my campaign –  no one donated so far today still $110 more to raise.

Yesterday when we went to visit my granny in hospital a physiotherapist came in for a session it turns out my physiotherapist and my granny’s physiotherapist know each other she said I know Gerda (my physiotherapist) she’s a nice lady I hope I am the kind of person people speak well of when I’m not there. Are you the kind of person people speak well of behind your back?

Day 1076: Take care of yourself

You have to take care of yourself first before you can take care of anybody else – that’s what I keep learning

It’s 2  : 42 PM on day 1076 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth,  feed myself boiled egg and Bran Flakes  for breakfast,    publish my Disability of the Day feature, go visit my granny in hospital – she’s doing so much better eating well and siting by herself I’m so happy 🙂 – and tweet and Facebook about my campaign –  no one donated today but Anonymous  donated $50 yesterday (thanks again Anonymous) now I only need to raise $110  in the next 52 days to reach goal :)

Last night I realized if I wanted to make a difference for the rest of my life I had to take care of myself so I shut down the laptop and got a good night’s sleep usually I stay up late promoting my campaign and doing other stuff from today onwards I’m going sleep well, eat well and exercise when I can because if I’m not the best of myself I can’t give the best of myself to the world. Do you put everybody else first and yourself last?

Day 1075: This is Water by David Foster Wallace

The capital-T Truth is about life before death. It is about making it to 30, or maybe even 50, without wanting to shoot yourself in the head. It is about the real value of a real education, which has almost nothing to do with knowledge, and everything to do with simple awareness; awareness of what is so real and essential, so hidden in plain sight all around us, all the time, that we have to keep reminding ourselves over and over:

“This is water.”

“This is water.”

– David Foster Wallace, This is Water

It’s 12  : 13 PM on day 1075 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth,  feed myself boiled egg and Bran Flakes  for breakfast,  read 1 Samuel 9,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, read and comment on Was “One PIssed Off Mother” Right When She Suggested Her Neighbor’s Euthanize Their Autistic Son?  – it’s basically a different point point of view on the post I wrote yesterday –  tweet and Facebook about my campaign -no one donated so far today either I’m sure people would be more inclined to donate if I told them I had Cerebral Palsy but I made the conscious choice not to use the fact that I have Cerebral Palsy to get anything I want I want people to donate to this campaign because they care about human trafficking and slavery not because they like me and my story – and practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles – my right leg is still not a 100% healed so I’ve settled for doing sitting exercises better than nothing I suppose.

Two days ago watching This is Water – a  Kenyon College Commencement Address by David Foster Wallace – I realized education is more than knowledge education is realizing you have a choice about how you see things.  Watch This is Water below:

Day 1074: All life has value

All life has value – that’s what I wish the world would understand.

It’s 12  : 10 PM on day 1074 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth,  feed myself boiled egg and Bran Flakes  for breakfast,  read 1 Samuel 8,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,   tweet and Facebook about my campaign -no one donated so far today if worst comes to worst and I still have $160 to raise with a few days to spare I’ll just donate the money myself I’m not exactly a millionaire but i still have some money saved up from work I did a while ago I refuse to fail – and take off my dirty hoodie and t-shirt and put on a clean t-shirt and turtleneck – while changing I realized I’m the last person anyone should pity I work so hard to do big things and small things honest to God if you guys could have seen how hard I had to work to take my hoodie off you would never give up on anything in your entire life.

On Tuesday I read Unbelievably hateful letter sent to mother of a boy with autism – an article about a letter sent to a mother of a boy with autism telling her to euthanize her son – I was  SHOCKED just because someone is different doesn’t mean their life doesn’t have value.  Do you value all life?

Day 1073: Tactless people

People can be so tactless – that’s what I keep learning 🙁

It’s 12  :  56 PM on day 1073 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth, feed myself Bran Flakes and a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast, read 1 Samuel 7,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,  tweet and Facebook about my campaign – nobody donated so far today but I’m not giving up I’m only $160 away from goal – and practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles – my right leg is still not a 100% healed so don’t want to exercise my legs so I decided to make the best of the situation and work on my sitting 🙂

Two days ago a couple came to visit us the aunty was talking to my mother she said you work so hard you work at school and you work at home I always think of you you’’re situation (that’s what some people refer to me as, a situation) is so difficult you don’t get to take part in social activities I was shocked and a little hurt that someone would come to my house and say these things about me within earshot of me.

Day 1072: Choosing to laugh

“Sometimes crying or laughing are the only options left, and laughing feels better right now.”
― Veronica Roth, Divergent

It’s 12  : 10 PM on day 1072 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself Bran Flakes  for breakfast, pray, read 1 Samuel 6,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, take off my dirty jacket and t-shirt and put a clean t-shirt on    and   tweet and Facebook about my campaign – no one donated so far today.

On Friday my parents and I went to visit my granny in the hospital and just as we were about to enter the hospital I heard this little boy asking quite loudly what’s wrong with her,  what’s wrong with her, what’s wrong with her until we were out of hearing distance I couldn’t help laughing I love kids they’re so honest if you have the choice between laughing or crying always choose to laugh life is too short. When you have the option between laughing or crying do you laugh or cry?
