Day 1071: Becoming a better version of me

“No matter who you are, no matter what you did, no matter where you’ve come from, you can always change, become a better version of yourself.” ― Madonna

It’s 1  : 09  PM on day 1071 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray, brush my teeth, feed myself boiled egg and Bran Flakes  for breakfast, read 1 Samuel 4 and 1 Samuel 5, publish my Disability of the Day feature,   tweet and Facebook about my campaign – no one made a donation so far today – practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles and stretch my hamstrings – now that my infection is gone my right leg is less stiff (thank you God).

Yesterday at church talking about signs of Christian maturity the reverend said I’m paraphrasing those who are maturing as Christians have fruits of the spirit they are love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control whereas those who are not maturing as Christians are filled with jealousy, hatred, anger and the like I went down the list of things that point to the fact that one is not a mature Christian and realized I’m a really jealous human being when I see someone doing something I struggle to do with ease I feel pangs of jealousy I have to work on that I hate being jealous.   Do you try to become a better version of yourself every day?

Day 1070: Make do

Make do with what you have – that’s what I keep learning.

It’s 6 : 26 PM on day 1070 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth, feed myself  boiled egg and bran flakes  for breakfast,  go to church, go visit my granny in hospital – my granny is such a strong woman two strokes (one two years ago and one recently) and she’s still trying to speak and pull out her  tubes  I have much respect for her – feed myself brown rice, vegetables and fish curry for lunch, continue reading The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom – it’s about this guy Eddie who dies and the five people he meets in heaven who explain to him why things happened in his life the way it did I really like it –      publish my Disability of the Day feature,  publish my Kid of the Week feature and tweet and Facebook about my campaign –  no one donated today but Anonymous  donated $50 yesterday (thanks again Anonymous) now I only need to raise $160  in the next 58 days to reach goal :)

Last night I was sick and tired of asking for help and it looked as though people were sick and tired of helping me I love being me but it can be frustrating sometimes I can see myself in my mind’s eye trying to shake myself free of the prison that is my body I guess I’m still learning to make do with what I have. Are you making do with what you have?

Day 1069:Roberto D’Angelo + Francesca Fedeli: In our baby’s illness, a life lesson

But one day we found that Mario was not looking at our hand. He was looking at us. We were his mirror. And the problem, as you might feel, is that we were down, we were depressed, we were looking at him as a problem, not as a son, not from a positive perspective. And that day really changed our perspective. We realized that we had to become a better mirror for Mario. – Roberto D’Angelo

It’s 12  : 30 PM on day 1069 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself boiled egg and Bran Flakes  for breakfast, pray, read 1 Samuel 3,   publish my Disability of the Day feature   and   tweet and Facebook about my campaign – I am nothing if not persistent my granny’s sick in hospital (she had a minor stroke three day ago she’s much better now), nobody’s donating and yet I keep trying, trying and trying some more.

A while back I watched Roberto D’Angelo + Francesca Fedeli: In our baby’s illness, a life lesson – a Ted Talk by Roberto D’Angelo and Francesca Fedeli about what their son’s Cerebral Palsy has taught them – Roberto’s message to parents and my message to parents are one and the same don’t see your children as problems see them as gifts  so often when parents receive a diagnoses of Autism, Down Syndrome or Cerebral Palsy they start seeing their children as projects something to fix and in the process they forget that they’re children are human beings before they are anything else. Watch Roberto D’Angelo + Francesca Fedeli: In our baby’s illness, a life lesson below:

Day 1068: Timing

Timing is everything – that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s 12  : 00 PM on day 1068 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth, feed myself boiled egg and Bran Flakes  for breakfast, read 1 Samuel 2,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,     tweet and Facebook about my campaign – no one donated so far today what I’m doing is not working so I have to do something different maybe a Youtube video with me asking people to make donations I find that people find it hard to say no to you if they can see your face problem is I’m really uncomfortable in front of a camera and on stage speaking in front of people   – take off my dirty turtleneck and t-shirt and put on a clean t-shirt and hoodie – I finally figured out why I can’t seem to put on weight just getting dressed is a 1-2 hour work-out and on top of that I eat mostly vegetables and fruits-and practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles.

A few days ago it dawned on me that had I been born in a different time I probably wouldn’t have been able to do half the things I’m doing I so appreciate being in this world at this time. Do you appreciate the advantages of being in this world at this time?

Day 1067: 30 Random Acts of Kindness for Shasta’s 30th

“Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.” ― Henry James

It’s 12  : 27 PM on day 1067 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth, read Samuel 1,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,  feed myself boiled egg and  Bran Flakes  for breakfast,   tweet and Facebook about my campaign – no one donated so far today – and watch slavery documentaries on YouTube – there were times while watching this documentaries that I literally had to force myself to look at the screen the girls being traded like pieces of meat were around my age it is beyond me how human beings can use other human beings as tools to make money 🙁

A couple of days ago I read 30 Random Acts of Kindness for My 30th in which my friend Shasta asks thirty of her readers to do something kind for someone else in honour of her 30th birthday all you have to do is do something kind that you weren’t already planning on doing and tell Shasta about it on her Facebook page before the end of August. Get your good on people do something kind for someone else in honour of Shasta’s birthday.

Day 1066: WWYD? – Disabled People Are Harassed By Obnoxious Customers!

You’re never as alone as you think you are– that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s 12  : 00 PM on day 1066 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth, feed myself  Bran Flakes  for breakfast, read Ruth 4,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, tweet and Facebook about my campaign – still need $210 to reach goal I want to ask people I know in real life if they can make donations but if I do and they say thanks but no thanks or worse if they ignore me it will be really awkward when I bump into them somewhere   – take off my dirty jacket and top and put on a clean top and hoodie – it took me so much time and effort to do but that’s my life it takes me hours to do the most basic things I could cry about how hard my life is or I could suck it up and get on with it I choose to suck it up and get on with it 🙂 – stretch my hamstrings – I couldn’t exercise as much as I wanted to today my right knee hurt to the point that I was in tears it’s probably because I’ve only just recovered from a  foot infection.

Yesterday afternoon I watched WWYD? – Disabled People Are Harassed By Obnoxious Customers! – an episode of What Would You Do (a show that creates controversial scenarios to see what bystanders will do) in which a woman in a wheelchair was being harassed by a well-meaning customer – I could so relate to that situation people mean well but sometimes they see the wheelchair and become overly helpful when someone (whether they’re differently-abled or not) tells you they can do something believe them after all they know themselves better than you know them.   Watch WWYD? – Disabled People Are Harassed By Obnoxious Customers below:

Day 1065:You choose what you hold onto

You choose what you hold onto – that’s what I keep learning.

It’s 12  : 19 PM on day 1065 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth, read Ruth 3,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,  feed myself  Bran Flakes  for breakfast and   tweet and Facebook about my campaign – no one donated today but Nancy Scott (@CRUKWalton) donated $20 yesterday (thanks again Nancy) now I only need to raise $210  in the next 63 days to reach goal 🙂

Today I realized you choose what you hold onto you can either bless people for the things they’ve said and done to help you or curse them for the things they’ve said and done to hurt you my favourite thing to do when someone is spewing venom at me is to say to myself over and over again bless those who curse you, bless those who curse you, bless those who curse you it keeps me from saying things I would regret later. Do you hold onto things people have said and done to hurt you or do you hold onto things people have said and done to help you?

Day 1064: Why some give and others don’t?

Those who believe they have much are more likely to give than those who believe they have little – that’s what I keep learning.

It’s 12  : 00 PM on day 1064 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, read Ruth 2,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,  feed myself boiled egg and Bran Flakes  for breakfast and   tweet and Facebook about my campaign – no luck so far but I’ll keep trying I only need to raise $230 more to reach my goal 🙂

This morning thinking about the difference between those who give and those who don’t I realized those who believe they have much are more likely to give than those who believe they have little it even makes common sense if you believe you have little you will hold onto everything you have for dear life on the other hand if you believe you have much you will think to yourself I have so much why shouldn’t someone else have as much or more than me. Do you believe you have much or do you believe you have little?

Day 1063: Growing in love

7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for  us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

– 1 John 4:7-21

It’s 1  : 16 PM on day 1063 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,   pray, read Ruth 1,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, publish my Kid of the Week feature,  go to church,  feed myself  boiled egg and All Bran Flakes for breakfast  and  tweet and Facebook about my campaign –  no one donated so far today but I’m not worried I know God is working through me helping me reach this goal 🙂

Today at church our reverend talked about growing in love he said I’m paraphrasing Christian saints felt deeply loved by God and that caused them to love others that made sense God loves me not because of anything I did or didn’t do but just because why can’t I love other people the same way I am going to try that no matter what anybody does or doesn’t do I will love them like God loves me. Do you love others the way God loves you?

Day 1062: I am worthy?

In every aspect of our lives, we are always asking ourselves, How am I of value? What is my worth? Yet I believe that worthiness is our birthright. – Oprah Winfrey

It’s 2  : 28 PM on day 1062 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  feed myself boiled egg and Bran Flakes  for breakfast, pray,    read Judges 21,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, go out and     tweet and Facebook about my campaign – no luck so far but I’ll keep trying I only need to raise $230 more to reach my goal thanks to the $20 donation my baby brother made yesterday (I’m SO proud of him).

This morning laying on my bed thinking about why I’m so obsessed with finding something wrong with me physically it dawned on me that there’s a part of me that feels unworthy of good health and as a result I’m living waiting for the other shoe to drop I’m going to try and start believing I’m worthy of good things happening to me. Do you believe you’re worthy of all the good things that life has to offer?
