Day 1154: The link between appreciation and good relationships

Lack of appreciation can damage relationships beyond repair– that’s what I learned today.

It’s 1 : 33 PM on day 1154 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray,  brush my teeth,  feed myself Bran Flakes for breakfast,  read 2 Kings 12,    publish my Disability of the Day feature,  publish my Kid of the Week feature, go to church, register to vote in next year’s elections – I have a dirty little secret I’ve been eligible to vote in the last two elections and I didn’t vote (don’t judge) reading Conversations With Myself by Nelson Mandela made me realize how much people have sacrificed so that I can have the right to vote the registration process didn’t take that long and aside from needing my sister to help me sign my name at the bottom of the registration form everything went swimmingly  –  and go visit people.

Today something happened that made me realize lack of appreciation is the number one cause of the breakdown of relationships all people want to know is that you notice and appreciate what they do for you and when that doesn’t happen things don’t end well. Are you appreciative of the things people do for you?

Day 1153: Embracing how you feel

However you feel it’s okay– that’s what I keep learning.

It’s 12 : 03 PM on day 1153 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth,  read 2 Kings 11,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, feed myself boiled egg and Bran Flakes for breakfast, spent time outside, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles and hang out with my sister.

This morning I found myself a little pissed at God for making me work so hard just to get through each day and I felt so guilty God has given me so much how could I be mad at Him but then I realized however I feel it’s okay. Do you often feel guilty for feeling how you feel?

Day 1152: Give Back Films

Giving is to the soul what food is to the stomach – that’s what I keep learning.

It’s 12 : 03 PM on day 1152 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth,  watch the news, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, stretch my hamstrings, feed myself Bran Flakes for breakfast,  read 2 Kings 10,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, spend time outside,   change my top and hang out with my sister.

Yesterday I came across Give Back Films – a YouTube channel that consists of videos of Kyle Oreffice doing good deeds – I just love knowing that there are people out there doing good just because they can. Watch Giving $100 to Homeless People, one of my favourite videos by Give Back Films, below:

This morning I saw this video of a little girl talking about her brother who has Down Syndrome my life’s message is that different is beautiful and this little girl and her family convey that beautifully in this video. Watch “For My Brother on Down Syndrome Day” By Ace below:

Day 1150: The Story of Kakenya

“It doesn’t matter where you are coming from. All that matters is where you are going.” – Brian Tracy

This morning I stumbled across the inspirational story of a little girl who changed the course of her life and the lives of others by simply bargaining to go to school this story underscores the importance of an education. Watch Vital Voices: The Story of Kakenya below:

Day 1149: Do you let your deeds speak for you?

One good deed is equivalent to a thousand prayers – that’s what I believe.

It’s 12 : 09 PM on day 1149 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray,  brush my teeth, feed myself boiled egg and  Bran Flakes for breakfast,  read 2 Kings 7,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles and hang out with my sister.

A couple of days ago listening to my mom pray I couldn’t help wondering if that’s what God wants – for us to pray all the time – I pray too there’s nothing wrong with it but I believe one good deed is equivalent to a thousand prayers so I try to pray less and do more.  Do you let your deeds speak for you?

Day 1148: Half the Sky by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn

You empower a man; you empower a man. You empower a woman; you empower a generation – that’s what I learned from Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide.

It’s 12 : 01 PM on day 1148 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to   brush my teeth, feed myself Bran Flakes for breakfast,  read 2 Kings 6,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,   change my clothes, stretch my hamstrings and  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles.

Last night I finished reading  Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide by Nicholas D. Kristof  and Sheryl WuDunn the book deals with issues of sex trafficking, violence against women and girls and maternal mortality what I love about this book is that they inform us of the problems facing women and invite us to become part of the solution.

Day 1147: The power of Adobe Photoshop

The kind of beauty you see in magazines is nothing but an illusion – that’s what I want young girls to know.

Kristof  and Sheryl WuDunn, feed myself boiled egg and Bran Flakes for breakfast, read some more and go fetch my sister at the airport.

Yesterday I saw an amazing video that proves to young girls that the kind of beauty they see in magazines is nothing but an illusion. Watch The power of Adobe Photoshop below:

Day 1146: Children with special needs left out of class

An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.~ Benjamin Franklin

It’s 12 : 07 PM on day 1146 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray,  brush my teeth,  read 2 Kings 4,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,   feed myself boiled egg and Bran Flakes for breakfast and help my brother study for his exam.

This morning I read Children with special needs left out of class and I couldn’t help wondering how children with special needs would grow up to become contributing members of society if they didn’t have an education India should be embarrassed to call itself one of the world’s largest economies when children with special needs are left out in the cold without an education.

Day 1145: Listening to Shame by Brene Brown

And so I’ll leave you with this thought. If we’re going to find our way back to each other, vulnerability is going to be that path. And I know it’s seductive to stand outside the arena, because I think I did it my whole life, and think to myself, I’m going to go in there and kick some ass when I’m bulletproof and when I’m perfect. And that is seductive. But the truth is that never happens. And even if you got as perfect as you could and as bulletproof as you could possibly muster when you got in there, that’s not what we want to see. We want you to go in. We want to be with you and across from you. And we just want, for ourselves and the people we care about and the people we work with, to dare greatly. – Brene Brown

It’s 12 : 43 PM on day 1145 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray,  brush my teeth,  read 2 Kings 3,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,  stretch my hamstrings, feed myself Bran Flakes for breakfast,   practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, change my clothes and continue reading Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide by Nicholas D. Kristof  and Sheryl WuDunn.

Yesterday I watched Listening to Shame – a Ted Talk by Brene Brown about turning a deaf ear to shame and believing you’re worthy of all good things – in the talk Brene basically says it doesn’t matter if you succeed or fail all people want to see is that you dared greatly and I agree with that if you try something and you don’t succeed it’s an experience but what do you call something you wish you did but didn’t have the courage to do.
