Day 1186: Woolies and Soweto Gospel Choir: Madiba Tribute

Do things worth remembering and you will be remembered – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 12  : 37 PM on day 1186 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray,  brush my teeth,  read 1 Chronicles 19,  publish my Disability of the Day feature,  feed myself Bran Flakes and boiled egg for breakfast,   practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,  stretch my hamstrings  and hang out with my family.

Yesterday I saw Woolies and Soweto Gospel Choir: Madiba Tribute – a flashmob dedicated to Nelson Mandela – the love the world has for Nelson Mandela is unlike anything I’ve ever seen just goes to show if you do things worth remembering you will be remembered. Watch Woolies and Soweto Gospel Choir: Madiba Tribute below:

Day 1184:Wade Davis: Cultures at the far edge of the world

“And finally, in the end, I think it’s pretty obvious at least to all of all us who’ve travelled in these remote reaches of the planet, to realize that they’re not remote at all. They’re homelands of somebody. They represent branches of the human imagination that go back to the dawn of time. And for all of us, the dreams of these children, like the dreams of our own children, become part of the naked geography of hope.

So, what we’re trying to do at the National Geographic, finally, is, we believe that politicians will never accomplish anything. We think that polemics — (Applause) — we think that polemics are not persuasive, but we think that storytelling can change the world, and so we are probably the best storytelling institution in the world. We get 35 million hits on our website every month. 156 nations carry our television channel. Our magazines are read by millions. And what we’re doing is a series of journeys to the ethnosphere where we’re going to take our audience to places of such cultural wonder that they cannot help but come away dazzled by what they have seen, and hopefully, therefore, embrace gradually, one by one, the central revelation of anthropology: that this world deserves to exist in a diverse way, that we can find a way to live in a truly multicultural, pluralistic world where all of the wisdom of all peoples can contribute to our collective well-being.”

―  Wade Davis, Cultures at the far edge of the world

It’s 12  : 17 PM on day 1184 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray,  brush my teeth, read 1 Chronicles 17,  publish my Disability of the Day feature,  feed myself  a scrambled egg sandwich and banana for breakfast,  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles and hang out with my family.

Yesterday I watched Wade Davis: Cultures at the far edge of the world – a fascinating Ted Talk about indigenous people around the world – watching this talk made me realize our way of life is not the only way of life. Watch Wade Davis: Cultures at the far edge of the world below:

Day 1183: Changing dreams

Dreams change as you grow– that’s what I realized today.

It’s 12  : 33 PM on day 1183 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray,  brush my teeth , practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, feed myself  All Bran Flakes and boiled egg for breakfast, read 1 Chronicles 16,  publish my Disability of the Day feature,   stretch my hamstrings and hang out with my family.

Recently I read the bucket list I created about three years ago back then I dreamt of meeting people like Oprah and Nelson Mandela now I dream of doing things that make a difference I guess dreams change as you grow. Have your dreams changed as you’ve grown?

Day 1182: Are you Christian or do you just do what Christians do?

Being Christian is more important than doing what Christians do– that’s what I realized today.

It’s 12  : 13 PM on day 1182 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth, read 1 Chronicles 15,  publish my Disability of the Day feature, publish my Kid of the Week feature,   feed myself  All Bran Flakes for breakfast, go to church and listen to music.

This morning I really wanted to go to church and we did but not before going back and forth about whether or not we should go before we made our final decision to go I told my mother it’s okay even if we don’t go because I realized doing what was easier for my mother would be more Christian than going to church. Are you Christian or do you just do what Christians do?

Day 1181: ‘Am I pretty or ugly?’ girls ask YouTube

Girls, embrace your flaws. Don’t compare or compete with others. What makes you different, makes you beautiful. Don’t let the crowd’s standards define you. You’re beautiful in your way.~ Mae Claire Dogillo

It’s 12  : 12 PM on day 1181 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  brush my teeth, pray, read 1 Chronicles 14,  publish my Disability of the Day feature,  feed myself  All Bran Flakes and boiled egg for breakfast, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles and spend time outside – when I’m outside in the beauty of nature all the pain and challenges I go through every day almost seem worth it what’s muscle pain compared to the feeling of the sun on your skin.

Yesterday I saw a video of girls asking the YouTube community if they are pretty or not I was heartbroken we must be doing something really wrong as a society if girls have to go to cyberspace to hear that they are pretty.

Day 1180: Rest in peace Nelson Mandela

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

2     a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3     a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4     a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5     a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6     a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7     a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8     a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

–  Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8

It’s 12  : 47 PM on day 1180 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray,  brush my teeth,   read 1 Chronicles 13, watch the news, feed myself  All Bran Flakes for breakfast,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,  watch the news some more, and hang out with my family.

This morning I woke up to the news that Nelson Mandela had passed away last night needless to say I am sad that Nelson Mandela is no longer with us but I’m also glad that he’s finally at peace. Rest in peace Nelson Mandela I will forever love you thank you for teaching me forgiveness, perseverance, service, respect and humility.

Day 1179: Help whoever you can however you can

It doesn’t matter who you help or how you help all that matters is that you help– that’s what I realized today.

It’s 12  : 04 PM on day 1179 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray,  brush my teeth, edit a website for some people,  read 1 Chronicles 12, feed myself  All Bran Flakes for breakfast,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,  stretch my hamstrings and hang out with my family.

This morning after editing a website for some people I realized it doesn’t matter who you help or how you help all that matters is that you help.  Do you only help specific people in specific ways or do you help everybody in every way that you can?

Day 1178: Advancement in technology = more independence for me

Technology can play a huge role in me gaining my independence – that’s what I realized today.

It’s 1  : 02 PM on day 1178 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray,  brush my teeth,  read 1 Chronicles 11, feed myself   boiled egg and All Bran Flakes for breakfast,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, listen to music – I love Cassadee Pope that girl can sing – stretch my hamstrings and hang out with my family.

This morning my mom had to drop my brother at school and my sister was sleeping so I used the remote to open the gate for our housekeeper which got me thinking about the role that technology could play in me gaining my independence currently the gate is the only thing in the house that you can open and shut with a remote but I did some research and found out that there are systems you can install which would allow you to open and shut doors and windows with a remote heck there’s even a driverless car which will be out in the U.S in 2015 so it looks like I will be more independent than I thought I could be thanks to modern-day technology.

Day 1177: Get over it I’ve got bigger problems to worry about?

Just because our problems aren’t problems in the bigger scheme of things doesn’t mean they aren’t problems to us – that’s what I realized today.

It’s 12  : 09 PM on day 1177 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  brush my teeth,  pray, read 1 Chronicles 10, feed myself   boiled egg and All Bran Flakes for breakfast,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,   stretch my hamstrings and hang out with my sister.

This morning I realized just because our problems aren’t problems in the bigger scheme of things doesn’t mean they aren’t problems to us whenever I hear people complaining I say something like there are children starving in the Sudan which, I am sure, irritates people to no end. Do you minimize problems in an effort to put things into perspective?

Day 1176: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

The best movies are those that reflect what happens in reality – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 12  : 06 PM on day 1176 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray,  brush my teeth. feed myself  boiled egg and All Bran Flakes for breakfast,  read 1 Chronicles 9, publish my Disability of the Day feature,   practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,   stretch my hamstrings and hang out with my sister.

Yesterday my siblings and I went to watch The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, in the sequel Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark have to go on a victory tour after which they find out they have to participate in the Quarter Quell, a version of the Hunger Games in which they have to fight the previous winners of The Hunger Games, I love The Hunger Games trilogy because it’s not as far-fetched as it seems both in The Hunger Games and in real life the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and there are people like Katniss, Peeta and Gayle trying to empower the powerless.
