Day 1261: Holding yourself to a higher standard

People won’t necessarily treat you the way you deserve to be treated and that’s okay but you have to hold yourself to a higher standard – that’s what I realized yesterday.

It’s 12  : 00 PM on day 1261 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray,  brush my teeth, feed myself All Bran Flakes for breakfast,   read Esther 5,  publish my Disability of the Day feature, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,  stretch my hamstrings and  promote my Eradicate AIDS campaign – 5 days and still no donations but two people did say they would donate this week  I guess I just have to be patient.

Yesterday I got into a heated exchange with someone and both of us said things we regretted looking back on it I am not proud of the person I turned into during that exchange so I have decided to hold myself to a higher standard and treat people better than they sometimes treat me people can call me names and say I do nothing all they like but I refuse to engage with them on that level it’s beneath me. Have you decided to hold yourself to a higher standard and treat people better than they sometimes treat you?

Day 1260: Is your fear of rejection stopping you from achieving your dreams?

Once you let go of your fear of rejection you can achieve almost anything – that’s what I realized today.

It’s 12  : 08 PM on day 1260 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray,  brush my teeth,  read Esther 4,  publish my Disability of the Day feature,  feed myself egg with bread for breakfast, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,   promote my Eradicate AIDS campaign – nobody donated so far today either – stretch my hamstrings and promote my campaign some more – still no luck.

Last night I spent a few hours on Twitter telling people about my Eradicate AIDS campaign and asking them to donate one person wished me well while another said she would donate when she could at this point in my life I have no problem asking people for anything the worst anybody can say is no and since I’ve heard no many times and survived I know that I will be fine whether people choose to help me or not. Is your fear of rejection stopping you from achieving your dreams?

Day 1259: A Lesson in Patience by Cerebral Palsy

Having Cerebral Palsy teaches you patience – that’s what I realized today.

It’s 12  : 15 PM on day 1259 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  brush my teeth, pray,   read Esther 2, publish my Disability of the Day feature, publish my Kid of the Week feature,   feed myself All Bran Flakes for breakfast, promote my Eradicate AIDS campaign – nobody donated so far today either – and watch the South Africa vs. Australia Cricket test match.

This morning I realized having Cerebral Palsy teaches you patience because I can’t do some things without help I’ve had to learn to wait for people to come and help me sure it’s frustrating sometimes I think if I could do this myself I would be done by now but it’s a small price to pay to learn patience. Have you learned unexpected lessons from your greatest challenges?

Day 1258: Are you starting off the children in your life on the way they should go?

6 Start children off on the way they should go,

and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

– Proverbs 22: 6

It’s 12  : 00 PM on day 1258 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray,  brush my teeth,    read Esther 2, feed myself egg with bread for breakfast,  publish my Disability of the Day feature,   promote my Eradicate AIDS campaign – nobody donated so far today – and watch the South Africa vs. Australia Cricket test match – you may not know this about me but I LOVE watching Cricket and Rugby.

Yesterday someone told me that a child who I love was rude to her the day before needless to say I apologized profusely on his behalf and told her that I would have him apologize to her and I did just that I think we, the adults, tend to treat kids like they can do no wrong and as a result they grow to be destructive adults. Are you starting off the children in your life on the way they should go?

Day 1257: Half-truths and whole lies

Is telling a half-truth the same as lying – that’s what I’m wondering.

It’s 12  : 01 PM on day 1257 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray,  brush my teeth, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,   read Esther 1, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  feed myself All Bran Flakes for breakfast and  promote my Eradicate AIDS campaign – nobody donated so far today but independent artist and host of The Absoloot Truth show on http://yopodner.com Absoloot made a donation yesterday   (thanks again Absoloot  :) ) which brings my total raised to $365.81 I am SO GRATEFUL – make sandwiches for our housekeeper’s neighborhood and  stretch my hamstrings.

Last night somebody asked me what do you do with your time I told him I do charity work and spend time with my gran when I can what kind of charity work do you do he asked to which I replied I make sandwiches for the kids in our housekeeper’s neighbourhood I didn’t want to tell him about my Eradicate AIDS campaign and make him feel like I was angling for a donation or something it just wouldn’t have been appropriate he was a guest in our home but now I feel like that half-truth was a whole lie. Have you ever felt like you lied after telling a half-truth?

Day 1256: 3 Answers to a Prayer and the Answer I Got

“God only gives three answers to prayer: 1. Yes! 2. Not yet. 3. I have something better in mind.” – Women of History

It’s 12  : 10 PM on day 1256 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  brush my teeth, pray,  read Nehemiah 13, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  feed myself All Bran Flakes for breakfast, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, stretch my hamstrings and  promote my Eradicate AIDS campaign – nobody donated so far today but Anonymous made a $20 donation yesterday   (thanks again Anonymous  :) ) which brings my total raised to $355.81 only need to raise $644.19 more to reach goal THANK YOU to all of you for your ongoing support I REALLY appreciate it 🙂

This morning I was thinking about all the priest who would come to our house and end a prayer by praying for me specifically back then I felt really singled out when that happened but now I can’t help feeling gratitude for all the prayers ever prayed for me I think it’s in large part due to those prayers that most things I do seem to work out so their prayers are being answered just not in the way that they probably expected.   Have you come to realize that I have something better in mind is sometimes a better response to a prayer than yes?

Day 1255: Existential Bummer

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieve it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

–  “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” by  Dylan Thomas

It’s 12  : 00 PM on day 1255 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  brush my teeth, pray,  read Nehemiah 12, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  feed myself bread with egg for breakfast,   promote my Eradicate AIDS campaign – nobody donated so far today but Anonymous made a $20 donation yesterday   (thanks again Anonymous  :) ) which brings my total raised to $335.81 I am SO GRATEFUL for the support that people have shown me  – practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, stretch my hamstrings and listen to music.

Yesterday I watched Existential Bummer the video is basically about how we should live and love to the fullest in spite of the fact that in the end we’ll lose everything even our lives it’s a morbid yet strangely inspiring video. Watch Existential Bummer below:

Day 1253: Just go with the flow

Just go with the flow, change the things you can and leave the rest up to God– that’s what I keep learning.

It’s 1  : 23 PM on day 1253 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray,  brush my teeth, read Nehemiah 10,  publish my Disability of the Day feature, inform people of the technical glitch on my fundraising page – somebody gave my mom money to give to me for me to donate it on her behalf and I did only the total raised did not increase and I didn’t receive a copy of the donations receipt like I usually do I tweeted and emailed Justgiving about the glitch but the situation is still stressing me out if people’s money go missing it’s on me because I am the one who’s out there pleading with people to make donations to the Elton John AIDS Foundation (UK) via my Justgiving page (Update: Justgiving replied saying my donation was rejected because I probably typed the credit card information incorrectly) –    feed myself bread with egg for breakfast and inform everyone that my fundraising page didn’t have a glitch contrary to what I believed yesterday and this morning.

Yesterday was a busy day things were coming at me from all directions looking back on it I have learned to just go with the flow, change the things I can and leave the rest up to God. Do you try to control everything even that which is not in your control?

Day 1252: Actions speak a lot louder than words

Actions speak a lot louder than words– that’s what I’ve come to realize.

It’s 1  : 42 PM on day 1252 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray, brush my teeth,  read Nehemiah 9,  feed myself All Bran Flakes for breakfast,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, publish my Kid of the Week feature,  promote my Eradicate AIDS campaign –   my brother’s so sweet he placed 4th in a chess tournament yesterday and offered to donate his winnings to Eradicate AIDS but I couldn’t take his money because I knew he probably wanted to use the money for something else.

Last night my mom and I were talking about how some people are all talk and no action some people pat you on the head and tell you how proud they are of you and all that you do but when you ask for their help suddenly they can’t get far enough away from you it’s so frustrating sometimes I feel like screaming at people WHAT MATTERS IN LIFE IS HOW MANY PEOPLE YOU HELP NOT HOW MANY PEOPLE LIKE YOUR FACEBOOK STATUSES OR HOW MANY FOLLOWERS YOU HAVE ON TWITTER. Do you get upset when people build you up with their words and let you down with their actions?

Day 1251: Not perfect? Join the club

There are going to be times in my life when I act less than ladylike and that’s okay because I’m only human – that’s what I realized today.

It’s 12  : 37 PM on day 1251 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray,  brush my teeth, feed myself All Bran Flakes for breakfast,  read Nehemiah 8, spend time with family, chat to granny in India via Skype – after talking to my gran I realize I should appreciate the fact that she still can talk to me and make more of an effort to spend time with her even if it’s just virtually – publish my Disability of the Day feature, and  promote my Eradicate AIDS campaign – no luck today either.

Yesterday I felt attacked by somebody so naturally I felt like I had to defend myself the person I became while trying to defend myself I was ashamed of looking back on that situation I realize there are going to be times in my life when I act less than ladylike and that’s okay because I’m only human. Have you accepted the fact that you will never be perfect?
