Day 1869: Animal Farm by George Orwell

“The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.” ― George Orwell, Animal Farm

Two day ago I finally finished reading Animal Farm by George Orwell the book is about the transformation of the animals of Manor Farm after they overthrow their human master I think all of us can relate to the book sometimes while fighting against something we become that which we are fighting against.

Last night I watched season 3 episode 8 of 21 Icons featuring entrepreneur Ludwick Marishane – the inventor of DryBath, the world’s first non-water based bath substitute – I so agree with what Ludwick said about self-education if you’re humble enough to admit that you don’t know everything and willing to learn the world is your oyster. Watch season 3 episode 8 of 21 Icons featuring Ludwick Marishane below:

Recently I realized I’m stressed (sometimes) because I’m blessed I’m blessed to have passion, purpose and a little influence. Thank you God for all my blessings.

Yesterday I heard “Light Me Up” by  Hunter Hayes again and it’s been on repeat ever since I just LOVE LOVE LOVE this song. Listen to “Light Me Up” by Hunter Hayes below:

Day 1863: Collaborate don’t compete – My message to world leaders

Collaborate don’t compete – that’s my message to world leaders.

It’s  12 :  02  PM on day 1863 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Acts 8, publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing – Onerous [on·er·ous] adj. Involving heavy obligations. Involving a burdensome amount of effort and difficulty. “The court’s stipulations were onerous.” – have breakfast and continue working on my local project.

This morning I was thinking about the state of our world right now we as humanity are like a bunch of two-year-olds we want to be better than everyone and we want what we think is ours but I think the world would be a better place if every President and every Prime Minister just decided that being the best country means doing everything they can to protect the human rights of every human being (I know, I know my egalitarian views are somewhat naive but I live in hope that I will live to see the day when all human beings in all corners of the globe have the same opportunities).

Day 1862: Doing what scares you

If something you’re doing scares you and gives you the I’m-going-to-puke feeling you’re definitely on the right track – that’s what I realized today.

It’s  12 :  31  PM on day 1862 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Acts 7, publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing –The male great horned owl is smaller than the female and has a much lower-pitched call. – have breakfast, continue working on my local project – it’s no wonder people these days only have a few kids I was checking out the prices I was actually shocked to see that teddy bears and dolls cost R100 or more (I kid you not) but I will make a plan I think I already have – and read Catherine Constantinides… an incredible South African focused on positive change! by  Brent Lindeque – it’s a great article (ok fine maybe I am more than a little biased because  the article is about Catherine but I still say it’s a great article that everybody should read).

Today thinking about the local project I’m currently working on it occurred to me that I’m doing exactly when I’m supposed to be doing because 1) it scares me and 2) it gives me the I’m-going-to-puke feeling – which are the signs that you’re having an experience that is growing you as a person.

Day 1860: My New Experiences in 2015 (So Far)

You can have everything you want you just have to actively work to get it – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s  12 :  15  PM on day 1860 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Acts 5, publish my Disability of the Day feature, publish my Kid of the Week feature,  have breakfast and learn one new thing – When traveling through water, sound moves around four times faster than when it travels through air – have breakfast and hang out with family,

Last night I was thinking about how at the beginning of this year I wanted new experiences and how to a certain extent I had had those new experiences I so desperately wanted I’m so grateful for everything i’ve been able to do so far this year. Take a look at the list of new experiences I’ve had in  2015 (Note: These experiences range from really meaningful to inconsequential).

My New Experiences in 2015 (So Far)

  • Raised $5 000+ for the Malala Fund by 3 October 2015 [more than double my original goal] [thanks SO MUCH to everybody who helped out I will be forever grateful]
  • Visited Josh Minter, his staff and the kids at  UThixo Ulungile Ministries [it was one of the best days of my 24 years of life]
  • Played a role in an orange tree being planted in our garden
  • Played a role in getting blankets for some people in our housekeeper’s neighbourhood [I’m honoured and privileged to be in a position to serve special thanks to my parents who backed this project]
  • Read 9 new books
  • Had Tim Tams [ delicious  Australian biscuit brought to us by my cousin from Australia]

Day 1858: Picking the right people for your life journey

Know who you are, pick a few people whose values align with yours and stand with them for the rest of your life –that’s my message to my generation.

It’s  12 :  36  PM on day 1858 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Acts 3, publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing –Doleful [dole·ful] adj Expressing sorrow; mournful. “A doleful look.” Causing misfortune or grief. “Doleful consequences.”- have breakfast, make sandwiches for the kids in our sisi’s (housekeeper’s) neighborhood with sisi’s  help as part of  Virginia’s Sandwich Run (thank you sisi for all your help today) and spend time outside – I LOVE being in nature my favorite thing to do is stare at the big, blue sky I don’t know why

Recently I realized that as a direct result of knowing who I am I have subconsciously or otherwise attracted into my life people who share my values and now that they are in my life I won’t let them go for anything they don’t even know it but they are the people I choose to stand with for the rest of my life (I will be there cheering them on and helping them even when they don’t ask me to).

Day 1857: “A shift in thinking will change the world” by Emily Penn

“We’re living on borrowed sunlight.” – Emily Penn

It’s  12 :  22  PM on day 1857 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Acts 2, publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing –Rubies are found in shades of red, from rich darkish red to pigeon blood red and pinkish red. The red hue comes from traces of the mineral chromium.-  have breakfast and listened to music.

Yesterday I watched “A shift in thinking will change the world” by Emily Penn (thank you  Gill Tiney for recommending it to me) it’s an interesting Ted Talk about Emily Penn’s travels across the globe and how a shift in values and mindsets can preserve our planet.
