Day 2322: Special Schools Vs. Mainstream Schools

Education should unite not segregate  – that’s my opinion

It’s 11: 18 AM on day 2322 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Psalm 29:11 and learn a new word – Disparate [dis·pa·rate] adj. Essentially different in kind; not allowing comparison. markedly distinct in quality or character. “He is a strong leader capable of managing a disparate team to achieve their goals.”

Yesterday my brother, my sister and I were discussing an essay topic my brother was given Should kids with Down Syndrome be accepted into mainstream schools? I’ve been to a special school and while I admit it does give children the individualized attention they need I feel like putting kids in special schools if they can cope in mainstream schools just segregates them which is not to say I think every differently-abled child should attend mainstream schools I’m just saying those who are capable of attending mainstream schools should because in the real-world there are very few special universities, special workplaces and special social structures for the differently-abled…. the real-world, unlike special schools, is not rigged to help the differently-abled succeed and the sooner differently-abled people accept that and learn to work around it the better for them.
