Day 1165: Extraordinary People – The Little Mermaid

“It’s just that some people have two legs and I don’t.” – Shiloh Pepin

It’s 12  : 12 PM on day 1165 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray,  brush my teeth, feed myself  All Bran Flakes and boiled egg for breakfast,  read  2 Kings 23,  publish my Disability of the Day feature, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, change my t-shirt, stretch my hamstrings and hang out with my sister.

Today I watched Extraordinary People – The Little Mermaid – a documentary about the late Shiloh Pepin, a little girl who died of Pneumonia at the age of ten after living her whole life with Sirenomelia, a condition that causes two legs to fuse together – this documentary proves to everybody that no matter how different we may appear to be all of us are more alike than we are different Shiloh’s legs may have been fused together but if people looked passed that they would see a fun little girl.
