Day 1422: Being me unashamedly

There will never be another me on planet earth – that’s what I realized this morning.

It’s 12  : 28  PM on day 1422 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  pray, read Psalm 110,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, feed myself oats with banana for breakfast, read and edit my sister’s university report – the report is about how the South African public healthcare sector can better serve children with chronic conditions admittedly I don’t read much academic literature and maybe I am biased but I really like the report  🙂 –     practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles and stretch my hamstrings.

This morning I realized there will never be another me on planet earth it’s pretty awesome being the only me on the planet although I didn’t always feel this way in my teenage years all I wanted to do was fit in but as time went on I came to realize that the people who succeed in the real world are the people who stand out. Do you embrace your uniqueness or do you try to be like everybody else?

Day 1033:Relating to The Twins Who Share A Body

We are more alike than we are different–that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s 2  : 04  PM on day 1033 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to stretch my hamstrings, pray,  brush my teeth,  feed myself  All Bran Flakes for breakfast, take off my dirty hoodie and t-shirt and put a clean t-shirt on,     read Joshua 16, publish my Disability of the Day feature and  tweet and Facebook about my campaign – the site is temporarily down for some reason I’m sure NFS will fix it ASAP I emailed them about it (Update: The site is up and running again).

Yesterday watching The Twins Who Share A Body – a documentary about two sisters, Abby and Brittany, who share one body – I realized once again that we are all more alike than we are different in the documentary Abby and Brittany share with us that people take pictures of them without permission or stare at them blatantly I could relate to that I remember being at the Trivandrum Airport coming back from India to South Africa and this guy asking my parents if he could take a picture of me holding some roses I was so offended that he asked my parents and not me if he could take a picture of me when you’re different people tend to treat you like a thing and not a person it hurts. Day 959: Different is beautiful

Different is beautiful. – Charisse Hogan

It’s  4  : 05 PM on day 959 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Numbers 12,  publish my Disability of the Day feature, tweet and Facebook about my campaign – still on 6% with 77 days to go – feed myself Bran Flakes for breakfast,   practice typing with both hands and  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles.

Two days ago I stumbled across Beautifully Different by Charisse Hogan what struck me most about Charisse’s story was that it mirrored my own growing up I too wondered why did I have to be so different but just like Charisse I’ve come to realize every life has a purpose.
