Day 1595: Self-Definition

Don’t be defined by other people’s definition of you – that’s what I have to keep remind myself.

It’s 12 : 12 PM on day 1595 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  brush my teeth,  pray,  read Jeremiah 12,publish my Disability of the Day feature, publish my Kid of the Week feature, learn one new thing – Since sharks don’t have marrow, in order to produce red blood cells, their red blood cells are made by the spleen or thymus gland.  –   promote my Educate Generations campaign– on $1 630 – feed myself egg with bread for breakfast and continue promote the campaign – still on $1 630 but I’m grateful 🙂

Yesterday someone I love dearly introduced me to someone else as the “sick child” (referring to the fact that I have Cerebral Palsy) sometimes I feel like I could win the Nobel Prize and some people would still refer to me as the “sick child” but it’s ok because I know that I am not sick or broken in any way. Are you defined by other people’s definition of you?

Day 1493: Choosing What Defines You

You choose what defines you – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 12 : 00 PM on day 1493 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Proverbs 31, publish my Disability of the Day feature,   feed myself peanut butter sandwich and a banana  for breakfast and promote my Educate Generations campaign –  no donations so far today but my friend and creator of #DadChat, Bruce Sallan, made a donation of $72 yesterday (thank you  SO MUCH Bruce your donation and ongoing support means a lot to me) which brings my total raised to $360 only $2140 more to raise :)

Yesterday I read something that made me notice that some people are so defined by their “disabilities” it’s a little different for me Cerebral Palsy is an ever present part of my life like my eye colour or my hair colour but I choose not to let it define me I don’t talk about it unless I think it could benefit others in some way. Are you defined by your challenges?

Day 1337: Divergent by Veronica Roth

“Every book you pick up has its own lesson or lessons, and quite often the bad books have more to teach than the good ones.” – Stephen King

It’s 12  : 30 PM on day 1337 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Psalm 24,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,   promote my Eradicate AIDS campaign –no luck –  feed myself bran flakes for breakfast and promote my campaign some more – still no luck.

On Saturday afternoon I finally finished reading Divergent by Veronica Roth the book is set in an alternate world where people are grouped according to what kind of people they are and the book begins with Beatrice taking a test and finding out that she’s divergent meaning she didn’t really fit into any faction eventually Beatrice decides she wants to be a member of Dauntless, a faction that values bravery above all else, but as time goes on Beatrice realizes that she doesn’t have to be defined by the labels other people put on her that she can in fact define herself which is something I think all of us come to realize as we go through life.

Day 1012: You and only you decide what defines you

You and only you decide what defines you– that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 12  : 10   PM on day 1012 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth, read Deuteronomy 29, publish my Disability of the Day feature, stretch my hamstrings, take off my dirty jacket and t-shirt and put on a clean t-shirt,   practice typing with both hands and tweet and Facebook about my campaign –  no luck.

This morning laying in bed I realized you and only you decide what defines you there are people in my life (I won’t mention any names) who answer she’s sick / she has a slight disability when asked what I’m doing with my life as if that answers the question it’s sad that people choose to define me by my “disability” but I can choose to define myself differently the fact that I have a “disability” means nothing I can be whatever I want to be. Are you defined by other people’s definition of you?
