Day 832

It’s the thought that counts– that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s  7 : 24 PM on day 832 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to stretch my hamstrings, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, brush my teeth, feed myself an egg  sandwich for breakfast, go shopping and watch The Life of Pi – the movie starts of with a boy named Pi being shipwrecked with his father’s tiger as the story unfolds Pi grows in his faith and learns about friendship I loved the story although the fact that it as in 3D was a bit annoying –      publish my Disability of the Day feature and  publish my Kid of the Week feature.

Today I woke up thinking I want to do something nice (for others) so I asked my dad to take me to the mall where I used my own money to buy gifts for the kids in our housekeeper’s neighbourhood I had my heart set on getting all nineteen kids one teddy bear each but when I got to the store I realized one teddy bear costs R30 and although I could afford to buy nineteen teddy bears I knew that I would never hear the end of it from my dad if I spent close to six-hundred bucks on toys  (my dad doesn’t really get me and my charitable ways he believes that if you have a hundred bucks you should only give ten I can’t do that if I have ninety bucks and you need ninety bucks I will give it to you I don’t care if it’s more than 10% of what I earn)  so I decided against the teddy bears and bought balls (rugby balls, tennis balls and a soccer ball)  and a deck of cards instead I felt awful I wanted every child to have one toy of their own but now I realize that it is the thought that counts and besides everyone can play with a ball not just one person as opposed to a teddy bear which you can’t really share. Do you look at the price of a gift or the thought behind it?

I LOVE hearing from you feel free to leave a comment below.
