“The education of women is the best way to save the environment.” – E. O. Wilson
It’s 12 : 18 PM on day 2013 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 2 Peter 1, have breakfast, learn one new thing – Venus, the second closest plant to the Sun, has the highest average temperatures of any planet in our Solar System, regularly reaching temperatures over 460°C. Venus is so hot because of its proximity to the Sun and its thick atmosphere.– and work on my 25 Smiles Campaign – raised $3 362 only $2 888 more to raise by 10 Jan 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ).
Today at 8: 30 PM (local time) people all over the world will be turning off their lights for an hour as part of Earth Hour – an annual event that aims to raise awareness about climate change. Without the planet there is NO PEOPLE let’s save ourselves by preserving the planet. This Earth Hour let’s make a commitment to go beyond the hour let our mark on the world not be a scar on our planet.

Tips on Living Green
- When you leave a room switch off all the lights
- Switch to energy-efficient light bulbs (if you’re not already using them)
- Invest in solar geysers (it’s a tad costly to install but it saves you a lot of money in the long run and it’s better for the planet [our house already had a solar geyser when we bought it] )
- Buy locally-grown fruits and vegetables or better yet if you have a yard grow your own fruits and vegetables (we are very fortunate in that we have a big yard which enables us to have 2 food gardens – one at the front of the house and one at the back – on top of that my parents grew up in India where growing your own food was a way of life so they know a lot about farming which is awesome because now we have home-grown vegetables at certain times of the year (when the land produces vegetables my parents are so proud and excited it’s adorable))
- Walk or cycle instead of always using a car (it’s good for your health and good for the planet) [I’m exempt from doing this for obvious reasons LOL but if you can please do]
The above are tips I came up with on my own. For more tips on how to live green visit www.missearthsa.co.za/index.php/green-tips .

Nisha:
Do any of your assistive devices have ecology as one of their priorities?
Model View Culture has a lot of information about this.
Thank you for your great Earth Hour tips.
Thanks for your interesting question I never actually thought about it before. I’m currently using a manual wheelchair which leaves no carbon footprint at all and when I switch to automatic I’ll try and make sure it’s as environmentally-friendly as possible
Great!
Doesn’t it leave a whole lot of skids and impact on the concrete and floors?
Will be interested to see what you do with your automatic/electronic wheelchair.
There might be a few Tesla-type plugs in gas and petrol stations as well as service stations.
I find that other devices powered by wi-fi and Bluetooth have promising possibilities.
Powered by wi-fi that would be cool!! 🙂
