Give people a break – that’s what I keep telling myself.

It’s  12 : 20 PM on day 1202 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  pray,  read 2 Chronicles 5, publish my Disability of the Day feature,    feed myself egg curry with bread for breakfast and hang out with my family.

Yesterday we – my sister, my cousin, my niece and I – went to the hair salon and while we were waiting for them to finish straightening my niece’s hair the woman who cut my hair started telling us about an intellectually disabled man that she knows and how I was nothing like him I will never understand why when people see me they feel the need to tell me about the differently-abled people that they know I suppose when you don’t know what to say you refer back to your experiences. Are you too harsh on people?
