Day 1837: Being differently-abled and being your own advocate

Being differently-abled has sort of taught me to advocate for myself – that’s what I have realized.

It’s 12 :  46 PM on day 1837  of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  pray, read John 3,    publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing –Jellyfish can sting even when they are dead. In 2010, about 150 swimmers at Wallis Sands State Park in New Hampshire were stung by the floating, 40-pound carcass of a lion’s mane jellyfish.–      promote my Educate Generations campaign – $5 025 raised so far with 8 days to go – and go get my new wheelchair’s belt sorted out – haven’t used my new wheelchair for long stretches of time (every time i sat on it for a while the belt would loosen on it’s own leading to me sliding off the chair hopefully they’ll sort it out for me because that’s the wheelchair i’m taking when we go to India in December).

Today I went to get my new wheelchair’s belt properly tightened for the thousandth time while we were there Patrick  measured me and brought it back thinking he’d fixed it but it still wasn’t tight enough so I expressed my dissatisfaction (Patrick if you’re reading this please know I so appreciate your help I know I’m not the easiest customer)  most people would be okay with okay but if something’s not a 100% right I will make it known because I’m the one who has to live with it I guess, in a strange way, being differently-abled has sort of taught me to advocate for myself.
