Day 2019: Happy Birthday to me and a HUGE THANK YOU to you

“Don’t just count your years, make your years count.” – George Meredith

It’s 12 : 44 PM on day 2019 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 1 John 4, go to church, have breakfast, learn one new thing –  Percy Spencer invented the first microwave oven after World War II from radar technology developed during the war. Named the “Radarange”, it was first sold in 1946.–   have breakfast and work on my 25 Smiles Campaign (yes even on my birthday 🙂 ) – yesterday Jinuchachen donated $50 and today my parents  donated $20 (thanks so much Jinuchachen and mommy and daddy  your support means a lot to me : ) ) which brings the total raised to raised $3 632 only $2 618 more to raise by 10 Jan 2017  (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far :)  ).

Today is my 25th birthday and in honour of that a few days ago I recorded a video for a few people who’ve made a difference in my life (which includes you guys). Watch this:

Day 2018: Life Lessons Learned in 24 Years

“When you get older, you learn certain life lessons. You apply that wisdom, and suddenly you say, ‘Hey, I’ve got a new lease on this thing. So let’s go.’ ” –  Robert Redford

It’s 1 : 32 PM on day 2018 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 1 John 3,  have breakfast, learn one new thing –Aaron Burr, Jr. (February 6, 1756 – September 14, 1836) was the third Vice President of the United States (1801–1805); he served during President Thomas Jefferson’s first term. After serving as a Continental Army officer in the Revolutionary War, Burr became a successful lawyer and politician.  –   have breakfast and work on my 25 Smiles Campaign – yesterday Reshma Ravi donated $30 and today  Wayne Mansfield of the Jindalee Foundation donated $50 (thanks so much Reshma and Wayne your ongoing support means the world to me : ) ) which brings the total raised to raised $3 562 only $2 688 more to raise by 10 Jan 2017  (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far :)  ).

Today being the day before my 25th birthday (I can’t believe I’m going to be a quarter-century young 🙂 ) I thought about and wrote down all the life lessons I’ve learned in my 24 years of life. Take a look:

Life Lessons Learned in 24 Years

  1. Whatever you believe about yourself you become
  2. The more grateful you are the more you’ll have to be grateful for (trust me, I’m experiencing this in my own life)
  3. Everybody just wants to be heard and understood (even if you don’t agree with them)
  4. Listen (if you’re always talking you never learn anything new because you already know what you know but you don’t know most of what other people know)
  5. True joy and fulfilment comes from serving others without expectation of getting anything in return
  6. The small things in life are the big things in disguise
  7. You get what you give (whatever you put into the world you get back a hundredfold)
  8. Be a trailblazer (if you’re walking your own path in life you don’t have to compete against anyone because there’s no one on your path)
  9. Persistence and hard work pays (if you decide you will work hard for as long as it takes to achieve your goals you WILL NOT fail)
  10. You are the company you keep (the people you surround yourself with will either push you to be greater than you ever thought possible or they will drag you down with them)
  11. If you don’t believe in something greater than yourself you cannot do anything greater than yourself

Day 2017: “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield

I am unwritten, can’t read my mind, I’m undefined
I’m just beginning, the pen’s in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Oh, oh, oh

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We’ve been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can’t live that way

– Natasha Bedingfield,”Unwritten”

It’s 12 : 46 PM on day 2017 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 1 John 2,  have breakfast, learn one new thing – Clownfish, wrasses, moray eels, gobies and other fish species are known to change sex, including reproductive functions. A school of clownfish is always built into a hierarchy with a female fish at the top. When she dies, the most dominant male changes sex and takes her place.  –   have breakfast and work on my 25 Smiles Campaign – raised $3 482 only $2 768 more to raise by 10 Jan 2017  (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far :)  ).

Recently I heard “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield again after a long time the first time I heard it I thought it was a nice song but now it sort of describes how I feel at this stage in my life. Listen to “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield below:

Day 2016: Shoutout to #OperationHydrate on World Water Day

“Water is the driving force of all nature.” – Leonardo da Vinci

It’s 12 : 00 PM on day 2016 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 1 John 1,  have breakfast, learn one new thing –Two names (of the first space station), Earth-Star and Starlight, referred to the Station’s likely bright star-like appearance in the skies of Earth, while another, Skybase, was said to build on “the tradition of Skylab,” the first U.S. space station, which had reached orbit in 1973.  –   have breakfast and work on my 25 Smiles Campaign – raised $3 482 only $2 768 more to raise by 10 Jan 2017  (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far :)  ).

Today is World Water Day and in honour of that I’d like to give a huge shoutout to #OperationHydrate – an initiative started by the people for the people to help those affected by the current drought here in South Africa. Residents of South Africa: sms ‘WATER’ to 42530 to donate R30 to #OPERATIONHYDRATE (Terms & Conditions apply).

Day 2015: Human Rights Day 2016

“For me, human rights simply endorse a view of life and a set of moral values that are perfectly clear to an eight-year-old child. A child knows what is fair and isn’t fair, and justice derives from that knowledge.” – Tom Stoppard

It’s 12 : 25 PM on day 2015 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 2 Peter 3,  have breakfast, learn one new thing – February 29 is a date that usually occurs every four years, and is called leap day. This day is added to the calendar in leap years as a corrective measure, because the Earth does not orbit around the sun in precisely 365 days. The Gregorian calendar is a modification of the Julian calendar first used by the Romans.  –   have breakfast and work on my 25 Smiles Campaign –Balu donated $20 (thanks SO MUCH Balu 🙂 ) which brings the total raised to $3 482 only $2 768 more to raise by 10 Jan 2017  (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far :)  ).

Today being Human Rights Day here in South Africa – a day that commemorates the Sharpeville massacre that took place on Monday, 21 March in 1960 as police opened fire on about 5 000 people who had come to the Sharpeville station to protest pass laws – I urge everyone in South Africa and elsewhere to stand up for and respect the human rights of others.

Day 2014: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey

“Habit 1: Be Proactive
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
Habit 3: Put First Things First
Habit 4: Think Win/Win
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
Habit 6: Synergize
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw”
― Stephen R. Covey, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

It’s 12 : 15 PM on day 2014 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 2 Peter 2,  have breakfast, learn one new thing – The air that is inhaled is about 20-percent oxygen, and the air that is exhaled is about 15-percent oxygen, so about 5-percent of the volume of air is consumed in each breath and converted to carbon dioxide. Therefore, a human being uses about 550 liters of pure oxygen (19 cubic feet) per day. –  go to church, have breakfast and work on my 25 Smiles Campaign – yesterday Zak Ebrahim, author of The Terrorist’s Son: A Story of Choice, donated $100 (thanks SO MUCH Zak you inspire me to be a better human I aspire  to exercise my freedom of choice like you do [really no joke]) which brings the total raised to $3 462 only $2 788 more to raise by 10 Jan 2017  (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far :)  ).

Two days ago I finished reading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey I would recommend this book to anyone serious about making a success of their lives this book teaches you all the habits you need to have in order to live a happy, successful and well-balanced life.

Day 2012: 2016 Reading List

“Reading is a basic tool in the living of a good life.” – Joseph Addison

It’s 1 : 12 PM on day 2012 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 1 Peter 5,  have breakfast, learn one new thing – Oxygen was discovered in 1774 by Joseph Priestley in England and two years earlier, but unpublished, by Carl W. Scheele in Sweden. Scheele heated several compounds including potassium nitrate, manganese oxide, and mercury oxide and found they released a gas which enhanced combustion. – and work on my 25 Smiles Campaign –  yesterday Ellyn Harris  donated $25 (thanks SO MUCH Ellyn  your support means a lot to me :) ) which brings the total raised to $3 362 only $2 888 more to raise by 10 Jan 2017  (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far :)  ).

Today I was thinking of all the books I want to read this year (my goal is to read 20 or more books this year) and to make things easier for myself I made a list (I’m a big fan of lists LOL 🙂 ). Take a look:

2016 Reading List

  1. The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto by Mitch Albom
  2. Out of Sorts: Making Peace with an Evolving Faith
    by Sarah Bessey
  3. The Terrorist’s Son: A Story of Choice by Zak Ebrahim
  4. Now and Then by Mira Lyn Kelly (Note: This book is for ADULTS ONLY [if you’re under 18 don’t even think about buying this book lest your parents think i’m a bad influence on you LOL 🙂 ])
  5. What I Love About You by Rachel Gibson (again probably for adults only [I shudder to think what you must be thinking of me right now LOL 🙂 ]  )
  6. Lord of the Flies by William Golding (my 15-year-old brother said it’s good which is astonishing because he rarely talks about books so I’m going to read it)
  7. One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez
  8. Night (The Night Trilogy #1) by Elie Wiesel
  9. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
  10. Imtiaz Sooliman and the Gift of the Givers: A Mercy to All by Shafiq Morton

(Note: I might not read the books in this particular order it depends totally on the availability of the books)

Are they any books you want to read? Let me know in the comment section below and who knows I might read your pick and review it 🙂

Day 2011: The “How” Also Matters

How you choose to do things matters just as much as what you do– that’s my message to the world.

It’s 12 : 49 PM on day 2011 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 1 Peter 4, have breakfast,  learn one new thing –The tides are due to the gravitational pull of the Moon and the Sun on the Earth. Because the gravitational force decreases as the distance squared, the part of the Earth that is closer to the Moon or the Sun is pulled a little extra and a bulge is created.– spend time outside -it’s such a beautiful day I feel blessed to be alive to see it -and work on my 25 Smiles Campaign – raised $3 337 only $2 913 more to raise by 10 Jan 2017  (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far :)  ).

Yesterday I wanted to do something and I knew of an easy way to do it but if I chose to do it that way I would have been using someone I care very deeply about so I chose not to do it that way because I believe how you choose to do things matters just as much as what you do I’m going to achieve all my goals but I’m determined to do it without lying, cheating, stealing or using anyone.

Day 2010: Social Media and The Responsibility We ALL Share

With great influence comes great responsibility– that’s my message to the world.

It’s 12 : 29 PM on day 2010 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 1 Peter 3,  learn one new thing –Eratosthenes calculated the circumference of the Earth without leaving Egypt. Eratosthenes knew that at local noon on the summer solstice in the Ancient Egyptian city of Swenet (known in ancient Greek as Syene, and now as Aswan) on the Tropic of Cancer, the Sun would appear at the zenith, directly overhead.–have breakfast and work on my 25 Smiles Campaign – raised $3 337 only $2 913 more to raise by 10 Jan 2017  (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far :)  ).

Today I was thinking about social media and influence thanks to social media everybody now has the power to broadcast their message which is awesome but with that power comes a responsibility to spread a message of gratitude, generosity, love, courage, peace and hope I strive to share content that promotes gratitude, generosity, love, courage, peace and hope I want to be a light in a world that oftentimes seems to be filled with darkness.

Day 2009: Words and Intentions

Hear what is said with the intention with which it was said – that’s what I’m learning.

It’s 12 : 03 PM on day 2009 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 1 Peter 2, learn one new thing – A jazz musician named Teri Pall invented a version of the cordless phone in 1965 but could not market her invention, as its 2-mile (3.2 km) range caused its radio signals to interfere with aircraft communications. In 1968, she sold her rights to the cordless phone to a manufacturer who modified it for practical use.–have breakfast and work on my 25 Smiles Campaign –  yesterday Catherine Cook who has donated to this campaign twice before  donated $25 (thanks SO MUCH Catherine  your ongoing support means the world to me I really don’t deserve you :) ) which brings the total raised to $3 337 only $2 913 more to raise by 10 Jan 2017  (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far :)  ).

A couple of months ago someone new entered my life and every day she teaches me to hear what is said with the intention with which it was said sometimes people say things and we feel like they are attacking us but if we take our egos out of it and think she’s just stating a fact she’s not attacking me as a person then suddenly the sting is taken out of all that is said.
